Whatever it was she was drinking burned her throat, not that she cared. Kaia was angry, hurt, happy, embarrassed, confident, grieving, emboldened; it was dizzying and at the moment, that was preferable to anything else. If Kaia could wipe out the mere thought of Alexandros from her mind, then she would be a very happy woman.
How she had let herself be so foolish as to think there could or would ever be anything between her and the captain, was beyond her. He’d wormed his way into her mind again at the Decade of Peace festival. If she’d not run into him, she’d have no reason to think of him again. Well, not about anything other than a mostly enjoyable night in Taengea. But no, he had popped up in front of her, made her feel as if he wanted her and valued her. From there, the thought of being with him had taken root in her mind and she’d been so naive as to think it was possible.
She knew what she was like. She’d known. She could be as angry as she liked at him—and by the gods she was—but she knew she was to blame too, because it was her that let him into her head and heart. She knew not to, but let it happen anyway. Not only had she seen how easily he could look to another woman after expressing his feelings for her only a day before, Kaia learned that he kept a fucking sex slave. It didn’t matter how he tried to explain it to her, that’s what she took from it. ‘She needed it for sexual gratification’—what a load of fucking bullshit. He just liked dipping his cock in anything with a hole and was trying to justify it. Only the lowliest, most evil scum of the world kept slaves, never mind forced them to have sex. It was horrid and disgusting and Kaia wanted absolutely no part of it.
As it was, when Kaia, Aea and Rene had come back inside, Alexandros looked pretty comfortable talking to a girl that looked younger than Kaia and Aea. That was even after speaking with Aea outside, the bastard. No, Kaia had wasted enough time on that piece of shit, she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of thinking any more on him. To be sure of that though, she would drink herself stupid with Aea and her new friends. Kaia finally got to meet Asia, the princess Aea had befriended. Daniil of Marikas was with them too. Initially, Kaia wasn’t sure how she felt about meeting the woman Alexandros had been trying to seduce, but upon actually meeting, Kaia quite liked Daniil. It also wasn’t her fault that Alexandros was a scumbag who let himself be led around with the thing between his legs. Dafni of Leventi had joined them too. Kaia didn’t know much about her, other than she seemed easy enough to get along with. Lady Rene was unable to attend, having to leave early the next day to return to Athenia.
Elias of Stravos was joining them too. He was quite handsome, but given the way him and Asia seemed to look at each other, Kaia understood why he’d joined their little ensemble for the evening. Well, Kaia wished them both better luck than she and Alex had. Hopefully he wouldn’t randomly shove his finger up Asia’s ass if they decided to head down that path.
Still feeling pretty, and absolutely determined to make the most of it, Kaia stumbled down the steps of the tavern and back onto the main street. “Where to next?” Kaia asked anyone who happened to hear her as she looked down into her goblet that she’d accidentally taken from the dinner table. It was far too empty for her liking.
“I need something else to drink,” she announced, looking back at her group of friends, a wide grin reaching her eyes. “Where can we get drink?”
Realising her mistake, Kaia giggled, then doubled over at the absolute hilarious nature of her accidental joke. When she could breathe properly again, Kaia gave a long exhale, “I mean drunk. Where can we get drunk?”
If people passing by were looking their way, Kaia did not notice nore care. She just wanted to have fun with her friends, get drunk and forget all about the Colchian captain.

It had been a long night so far, filled with droll conversations with the older generations speaking around her and Athanasia had to pretend not to want to be anywhere else. It was one of the few times that her restless immaturity fought to come out. The bright side, she made a possible new friend in the lady that she liked to think that she helped save. Daniil was a great conversationalist and Athanasia did have fun when they were talking. Her mind was drifting as she thought about the dinner, feeling warm and kind of fuzzy after the three glasses of wine she had. This night would be interesting, that was for sure.
Looking over at Kaia, she remembered meeting the woman after Aea introduced them. It wasn't an instant pull like it was with Aea, but Kaia knew who she was at the very start, so there was that to contend with; but it was comfortable. She could see them becoming friends, once titles disappeared between them. Watching as Kaia sat there drinking her wine angrily, Athanasia could relate. She didn't know yet why she was so mad but after this dinner, she could understand it. After placing Alexandros in a headlock, it took everything in her not to break his nose when he kept spouting stupidity from his mouth. Then after some time and he came in with a split lip and Aea had her arm all bandaged up, Athanasia was beyond tempted to kill the man. He was lucky Vangelis spoke up when he did, because Asia was tempted to use his head as a target while throwing the meat carving knife at him.
Tonight would be eventful indeed, as she looked around, she could see all the ones that seemed to want to go drinking with them. One was someone she was not sure she would allow herself to let loose around. Elias of Stravos made Athanasia uncomfortable. She found that she wanted him around even as she wanted to run away from him. Was it because he was pretty? Usually that never mattered to her, but after they talked at the festival yesterday, something shifted in Athanasia's interest. Looking over now, she hid behind her wine glass as she watched him over the rim.
A few had joined their little party and Asia had wondered if they would even be able to go anywhere with so many people. Dafni of Leventi was someone Asia was not familiar with, though she seemed nice. It was then that Kaia spoke up as she asked where they should go next and that she wanted something else to drink. "I know some of the bars make beer. I never had that before but heard the soldiers speak of it. I only know of those two." She thought of something called mead that she would swear to the gods that Aea had commented on, but she didn't say anything about that because it was something she never heard of elsewhere. As Kaia asked where they could get drink, laughing as she corrected herself and changed it to drunk, Athanasia laughed with her. "Are you sure you aren't already there?" Walking down the road, Athanasia let her head flop back as she looked up at the stars, giggling with Kaia as the wine made everything feel like she was floating. "We should get a few bottles of wine or beer and drink under the stars.. look how pretty they are."

“I know some of the bars make beer. I never had that before but heard the soldiers speak of it. I only know of those two.”
“Mmm,” Kaia hummed as she beamed at Athenasia. “These bars of yours sound perfect.” Beer, wine, mead—she would take any and all of it. Kaia would drink Alexandros out of her mind if it was the last thing she did.
Upon making her verbal mistake however, Kaia doubled down into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. Had she always been so hilarious? She would have to ask Aea, but first to find another drink.
“Are you sure you aren't already there?”
Kaia’s gaze drifted back to Asia, along with a grin. “If only,” Kaia answered, before following Asia’s lead by tilting her head back to view the stars. The view was beautiful, as it always was. However there was something different about observing the view among friends instead of through the campfire smoke with her father and uncles. There was a clarity that Kaia liked, as well as a sense of maturity. Then again, maybe it was just the drink.
“We should get a few bottles of wine or beer and drink under the stars.. look how pretty they are.”
Pointing at Asia with the hand holding her stolen goblet, Kaia smirked at Asia, “yes, yes! We should certainly do that. This is why you and me are going to be good friends,” Kaia insisted with a genuine honesty that felt as real as her own name. Princes who? This girl—Athenasia—was okay.
Draping an arm around Asia’s shoulders and giggling at her new found stability, Kaia looked towards the rest of their group. “Let’s go! Beer and Wine await!”

Aea followed Kaia at a sedate pace, her arms swinging loosely at her side and her smile tight-lipped whenever her drunken cousin glanced at her. She wasn't drinking tonight. Wasn't in the mood for it. Hardly ever was, but especially not tonight. Too mixed up; drinking would only make it worse.
Alexandros hadn't listened. It should gladden her that she had been right, but instead it just soured her mood. For a fleeting moment on the balcony, she thought Kaia had a chance at a new life. The pessimistic assumptions she'd held had been chased away, and she'd felt light. But then she was proven right and the assumptions held sound.
There truly was no such thing as love, it seemed. Not the sort she heard about in stories. She thought as much, she'd just hoped otherwise, hoped there was someone out there waiting for her too.
But, as it stood, love was only a product of fable. Perhaps the tales were spun to make girls more compliant to being married off; if they all knew there was no prize of the heart waiting for them in the end, why would they willingly march to slaughter like unsuspecting sows?
Death in childbirth, adultery, broken promises, disappointment, entrapment, imprisoned in the land of their birth if not the four walls of their home. And what did men get? A head housekeeper, a pretty ornament, and a free hole to spray themselves in when they didn't feel like going out to find another.
Yes, it wouldn't be wise to allow young women the truth, else they would never comply. And men did so love pretending they weren't the sort of beasts to take things by force.
Aea narrowed her eyes at the back of Elias' head. She paid much attention to him considering she sat beside him at dinner. They hadn't spoken, but she'd been keenly aware of him all the same. His movements resembled a graceful dove as he ate, his voice perfectly measured and articulate. Such a put-together thing must surely be laced to constriction and she wondered what sort of creature was bound and knotted in his belly.
The glances he cast upon the princess gave Aea ample idea.
And yet...what could she do about it? The world kept turning, and things would be as they always were. She could not shatter Elias' lust any better than she could break Alexandros'. She could not steer Asia any more than she could steer Kaia. All she could control was herself, and that had been a hard lesson to learn tonight.
She wanted to live and play in this world. She wanted to drink and forget the night. She wanted to fall into the arms of some handsome man without wondering what worries the sun would bring. She wanted to live.
And yet...still she waited. On a love she never had, on an adventure that would never come. Stuck between trees and rocks, ever toiling to do something. Ever waiting. She did not know what it was that kept her so anchored to her pier. Bobbing and drifting in a circle all on it's own, a marker for sailors, a signal of safety. But not a ship, no, never a ship. Those glided hither and tither, and she did not move.
Kaia stumbled onto the main street and all the others followed after her, some feet catching on the ground, some in the air, and yet some perfectly poised.
"Where to next?" Kaia drained the last visages of wine from her glass. "I need something else to drink. Where can we get drink?"
Was this really life?
"I mean drunk. Where can we get drunk?”
"I know some of the bars make beer. I never had that before but heard the soldiers speak of it. I only know of those two." Asia said.
"Mmm. These bars of yours sound perfect.”
At least Kaia was enjoying herself, which was really all that mattered after the fiasco with Alexandros. Perhaps she would learn to keep herself to herself. Nobody could hurt her if she didn't give them the opportunity.
"We should get a few bottles of wine or beer and drink under the stars...look how pretty they are,” Asia said.
“Yes, yes! We should certainly do that. This is why you and me are going to be good friends,” Kaia said.
Under the stars. Like every night before this.
Aea rested her hand on the pommel of her sword as she walked down the avenue with a different sort of place in mind, a place where she could fulfil her promise to Kaia. A great stone building rose tall and proud above the sea of Midasian bodies below, fat columns holding the lip of the roof barely over the shadow of the straight wall. Carvings and motifs arched above the yawning door, depictions of naked men, naked women, naked gods and creatures frozen forever in their hallowed joining. Immortalized in stone. Displayed for the pleasure of all. Aea did not have to read the name of the place to know what it was.
“Let’s go! Beer and Wine await!”
The group tripped and swayed down the street. Aea's focus flew far behind them, drifting without anchor or weight. Somewhere far back in time, she might have dreamed up this place and these people. It was her greatest wish as a child to be someone important enough to have friends that ruled the world. And yet it felt now like a natural progression in the cycle. As innate and unremarkable as a walk, a tune, another breath to carry her to another moment.
“I have a better idea.” She grinned a cocked grin swollen with a mischief she didn’t really feel. Aea lifted her arm and pointed ahead, “We’re going inside that tall building there.”
She did not ask the others if they wanted to go because she didn’t much care for their sensibilities. Whores existed, they were going to visit them, and that was the end of the discussion. Aea was fairly certain at least a quarter of their number would clam up and insist they weren’t going inside, and so she took the choice out of the matter so they didn’t have to go through the motions of denying they were curious to begin with.
Aea felt like breaking something tonight. Maybe she would steal a fat bag of coin from a noble and pay for everyone to have a ride while she sat back and contemplated whether she wanted to burn the building to the ground after they’d emptied themselves on and in one another.
They came upon the building and before any of them could raise the first complaint, question, or stuttered denial, Aea snatched Asia by the waist and moved her inside the archway. The princess would be the more vocal dissenter, Aea was sure. She loped her arm around the other girl—she couldn’t remember her name or her title but she was noble—then pulled her along as she strode in behind the princess.
She let the girl go and her gaze roved over the wide, beautifully lit receiving area. Sheer fabric dyed rich colors fell from the walls like water, candle light swaying to the flicker of each movement that passed it. Men and women gathered around small tables and lounges, splayed upon silken palates, leaned against long tables weighted with food and goblet alike. Some were old and certainly not whores, some were young and beautiful. All of them dressed in finery.
“Open a line of credit.” She said to nobody in particular until her sharp eyes landed directly on Elias. “The princess would like some beer and wine.”
She turned away from the Athenian and caught Kaia’s attention with a gesture about the room. “Go pick out whoever you like. As many as you like, for as long as you like. Cost is no concern.”

’I have a better idea. We’re going inside that tall building there.’
Kaia looked up at the building in question and squinted slightly in thought. There were a lot of naked people in the design of the building. Did that mean…
Oh. Oh hello.
“Mmkay,” Kaia agreed with confidence. She’d never been to a whorehouse, but fuck it, if men could go and spill themselves in one without consequence, then she could too. Alexandros be damned. If he couldn’t put aside the needs of the thing between his legs, then she would allow her a night to act the same. She owed no one any explanation, certainly not him. He couldn’t give up his sex slave, but wanted her devotion.
Fuck off.
’Devote this,’ Kaia thought as she practically marched into the establishment with the rest of her group. Upon entering, Kaia nibbled her bottom lip and looked around in awe. It was a lot more elegant and beautiful than she’d been expecting. The furnishings were exotic and expensive looking, the fabrics and decorations too.
When Aea approached her, Kaia gave an honest and warm grin. At least she had Aea, and would always have her. She even said so earlier in the night. Alexandros could go fuck his slave and be the cruel master that he was, she had Aea. Someone who actually cared about her.
’Go pick out whoever you like. As many as you like, for as long as you like. Cost is no concern.’
Kaia pressed her forehead against Aea’s, a small smile pulling at her lips. “What about you? Will you not choose someone too?”
Kaia didn’t want to push the matter, given what happened last time she’d tried to get Aea bedded. This time though, at least they were safe, but Kaia dared not mention that either. She’d screwed up last time, she wouldn’t push Aea again.
With a glance around, Kaia observed the variety of beautiful people in the room. There were plenty of women scantily dressed—if at all—but it was the men that drew her eye. Some were rather impressive specimens. However the one that caught her eye was a man perhaps only a few years older than herself. His face was cleanly shaven and his dark hair cut short. What she noticed most about him though, was his silver/blue eyes and his nearly sinful smirk.
“Him,” Kaia murmured to her cousin with a nod of her head. She didn’t need to check out any of the others, Kaia knew that the sly looking guy was the perfect selection. He looked like fun and fuck it, she wanted that.

Elias was quiet, following the women of the group. He was not drunk, by any means. He had had some wine, but nothing more, determined to stay sober enough to watch after the women in his care. Niobe trailed along behind of him, far enough behind to go unnoticed, completely sober, intent upon doing the same. Niobe's presence was unnoticed, as she never entered any of the bars, sticking to the shadows instead, awaiting an order.
He was complacent, chatting idly with Niobe or the princess, watching the rest of their group warily. It was when they came to a building that he figured was a brothel, that he noticed the sweet little lady that went by Dafni was pulled with the princess and the one called Aea.
After they entered, the younger of the group coughed and politely excused herself, clearly taken aback by the place they had entered. He watched her leave. Elias sent Niobe after her with instructions to take her home, and ensure that she was received safely. He would hear an earful from his companion for sending her off.
He'd make it up to her, though.
He smirked, as Aea's gaze met hers and she declared for there to be an open line of credit. "Fine." Asia was quickly picked up to be his weakness, and he groaned softly at this fact, as he moved towards the nearest woman, who directed him to the madame.
Elias spoke with her, and slipped her some coin, before he nodded towards his group. When he was done speaking to madame, he dipped his head as a sign of respect, and moved to rejoin the small group just in time to see Kaia pick out her toy for the eve.
"Asia," he murmured, raising his gaze to find hers, "Are you partaking tonight?" A short-handed gesture around the room, towards the men and women that were clearly selling their time. He had no claim over her; and yet, he was possessive. But their companions were...
...a problem; Asia seemed quite close to the two girls', and he'd really rather not some common rabble mess up his plans...
Though perhaps Aea could be bought; he'd have to have Niobe look into that one. She could be useful. "I will not be, but it seems that I am funding the evening," and he would fund it for as long as the princess wished.
He could afford it, after all. Never a better time to show off his wealth than this.

Xane of Ateaea
Night again. Always night. He couldn’t remember when he exchanged ray of sun for twinkle of star; long before this place, this time, these beautiful creatures, but exactly when? Such exacts escaped memory. He’d been born in sun, ran in it, shrieked with childish delight. He thought he would be great in those days.
Naked and baking after splashing in the Athenian waters, he would lay himself out to dry upon the knoll behind the home of his father, and his father before him. A glinting sword, he would think, a cry from passion-widened lips stained red from blood.
Well...at least that hadn’t been far from his eventual fate, though the blood was thankfully absent. What a comedy, what an irony the Gods played upon him. Instead of pain, he plied in pleasure. Rather than songs of his might, he heard sweet odes without rhyme, without lyric, and far beyond reason.
He sometimes wondered what he might say to his child self if ever they met in dream. “You will be brought to your knees, boy, but not by steel of death. And you will like it.” The boy that used to be wouldn’t believe the man that was, likely. But it was no matter, he would learn. There was a whole world beyond these pillars of hedonism, he could see it from where he stood against the wicker screen, and yet...he could not bring himself to desire it more than this never-ending cycle of indulgence.
Freedom was just as costly as subjugation.
From the tips of his toes to the front entrance, a path cut along the marble floor to spread ever north, far beyond the yawn of the wide and welcoming archway. He could leave, escape. Clever he was, and he could find a way to disappear if he wanted. If he wanted. But he did not want it.
He should be ashamed. Men did not enjoy being under thumb or foot. And if anyone asked, he would deny it. Unless, of course, they paid for his truth. And then he might show them how well he liked an excuse to live and breathe in nothing but desire and life and release and death–so many small and precious deaths.
Will he or won’t he? Of course he will, for you’ve paid him...but he is happy to make you forget it. Some he is happier to fool than others.
“Xane.” A woman’s voice danced enticingly through the air, wrapping around his neck and shoulders like a lazy snake. He turned his head to the sound but his eyes stayed upon the siren incandescent in pearl and sky. It was as if she might simply disappear if he dared look away, and he could not in any case. Every time he looked upon someone or something else, his attention sought the woman before the draw of his next breath. “Not now.” He said in that hushed tone of his that so often quieted those around him. There was an intent in it, one that lived low in his chest and rolled past his lips like the purr of a jungle cat.
“Lord Valis--”
“I’ve an appointment already.” He didn't.
The woman in blue strode in not minutes before, less than elegantly and clearly not as sober as he preferred, but he supposed it mattered not. He caught her glance when he strode across the room and took note of her then, measuring her first to see how much coin she looked to have on her, then measuring her again to fully observe her as a man observed a woman.
Or, in Xane’s case, whatever pretty thing caught his focus regardless of what did or didn’t fall between their legs. As long as he did as well, he was quite content with whatever beauty the Gods saw fit to tease him with.
For no matter how many times he lay with another warm body, the cruelty was that it could never be more, even if he wanted it to. Xane could have these darklings in all the ways they liked, but if he sought a heart or a soul, either or both would break in his search. At least he could still experience them in carnality–any taste was better than no taste at all.
It wasn’t often he was given the opportunity to be intimate with beautiful things, for they usually didn’t need to visit brothels to begin with. And yet...here was a woman who he should instead be paying for the pleasure of her company. What pretty golden hair, such a fresh face, such an open expression. A blank canvas ready to be painted.
He wanted her to look at him again. He wanted her to choose him out of everyone in the building. It wasn’t likely; the stars didn’t often align to give him what he wanted without some cruel twist. Still, he wished she would. He was a slave to his master, a slave to his flesh, and for a night, if she would have him, he would be her slave too.
For no matter how much he wished to see the sun once more, here was the very dawn delivered to him. How could he not want to warm himself in her arms? Or better yet, coax her to sink into his bed and show her all the ways the sun could be loved. Such a perfect alter should not go without worship, and allowing her to go without tribute would be akin to spitting at the feet of the Gods.
Thick incense ribboned from the tables and flirted around her. Dyes of deep purple and blood red draped against the world behind her. When the woman moved, it seemed as if she were the only misplaced thing in the room.
She was a dove among pigeons, a faraway dream. A thousand and one ancient nights burned just below the surface of her fair skin, nights that could be read like the words on a piece of parchment if only the woman would bare it to him. The woman moved and despite her wine-stained lips, her hips swung with a natural grace that most did not possess. Her sharp blue gaze held all the mysteries of the Gods, promising secrets of lands unknown and unspoiled by man. Xane wanted to see it–feel it–all.
“Xane.” The woman’s voice came again, sterner this time.
Finally, he let his gaze roll from the woman to the figure standing behind the wicker screen, her eyes and face and form hidden save for the most minute flashes of dark bronze and rich blush.
Xane waited for the girl to speak, and though she did not for a small timer, she certainly did when he began to turn his gaze back to the divine.
“That is Lord Elias of Stavos’ party.” She whispered. “And what looks to be Princess Athenasia, though I could be wrong. I have not looked upon her for years.”
Xane might have claimed not to have noticed the others, but that would be a lie. One learned to be aware of which creature would best serve as the next shuffle forward to freedom. He didn’t, however, expect any of them to be a Colchian princess.
At least rumors of Athanasia's attendance in the halls of pleasure would not reach the streets. The royals and nobles of Greece preferred brothels that did not allow their secrets to pass among the commoners, after all.
And this was, after all, a reputable establishment, not some back-water Athenian fuck house.
“And a Marikas.” He added, a small, satisfied dimple pressing into one of his cheeks. The woman–Kussakan of Lands Afar–stayed silent for a moment before nodding her head once she spotted the owl pendant resting upon the woman’s chest.
“The other two” He muttered, finally able to turn his attention to the woman in blue once more.
Kussakan shook her head, “They are nobody. Not that I’ve seen or heard tell of.”
Nobody. He would see about that. Xane was, after all, a nobody. And yet all of Midas knew his name. The clever thing would be to seduce the obvious royals. Stravos and Marikas weren’t names he heard grace these halls very often...unless of course, it was in hushed whispers of rumor. Not even the Kotas bothered to leave their palace of all things gold and beautiful just to come here.
And yet…
The blonde looked up and her cool gaze met his. Xane held eye contact and a slow, shameless smirk accompanied the warming of his blood and raw imaginings digging into his mind, nay, into the marrow of his very bones. Come here.

Kaia swallowed hard as she maintained eye contact with the male on the other side of the room. He was both handsome and beautiful, yet Kaia couldn’t understand how that was possible. That smirk though, that smirk sent shivers down her spine. Given his line of work, Kaia knew that confidence was to be expected from him, but even so, he looked at her like there was no other woman in the room. She wasn’t just the next drachmae to grace his presence, she was more than that, or so he made it seem with that sinful smirk.
Kaia turned away momentarily from him to turn back to Aea. Kaia gave an excited grin, before she looked back to the man of her choice. He was still looking at her, beckoning her with that gaze.
Kaia did not know the exact protocol about how to initiate a session, but she didn’t care. She made her way towards him, a flash of nervousness competing with both her attraction and determination. She’d bedded two men before and it had felt natural. She was sure this would work much the same way. It had to. Surely she couldn’t get this wrong.
The space between them closed all too quickly, and soon enough Kaia was standing before the man, wondering what on Earth she was supposed to do next. Up close he was even more attractive. HIs silver/blue eyes were bright and full of desire and mirth. Kaia felt the blood flushing her cheeks as she considered his strong jawline and symmetrical features. Even if Kaia had not already known his line of work, she would have guessed that he was no soldier. He didn’t have the same definition as a man who fought and killed for a living, and his body from what she could see was smooth and unmarred. However, though a soldier he was not, his body had just enough tone and definition that made Kaia yearn to touch…
And she would get to do just that.
Kaia wanted to say something profound, but couldn’t for the life of her figure out what that would be. How did she start this? Was she supposed to ask him? Was she just supposed to sit on his lap? For once in her life, she hoped he would guide her through this stage.

Athanasia was indeed buzzing hard as she and Kaia leaned against one another while looking up at the stars. Asia was in no rush to do anything at all, if she was honest with herself. She didn't want to think how she got in trouble for doing exactly what any of her brothers would have done. Thinking about anything specific was becoming harder to do, if she was honest with herself. Even moving almost felt like work as the alcohol relaxed her with every sip of wine. She didn't even pay attention to where they were going as Aea spoke going in a tall building. It was then she lifted her head as she looked around.
Seeing Elias, she could not stop the blush as a hand slid around her waist. For a moment she wondered if she imagined Elias tugging her along till she looked over and saw Aea, making Asia's smile grow even wider. She still could not explain why she felt such a bond with this woman, but it was there and it was stronger than ever the more time they spent in each other's company. "I am glad I almost shot you in the woods that night." Athanasia giggled before laying her head against Aea's shoulder. "I got to meet you because of it and your hello. Remind me to send the gods a thank you.." Looking around the room they were now in, seeing the beautiful room and so many colors, Asia could only blink as she looked at her new surroundings.
The scent in the air was intoxicating as Aea started making requests of lines of credit and more drinks. The glass in her hand was taken and a new one replaced it filled with the red liquid. "Aea..?" Asia's voice came out as a soft whisper that was lost among the murmur of the room and Aea was gone to her cousin Kaia.
Athanasia found herself standing alone for a moment in a room full of strangers. Her mind didn't register that Aea, Kaia, and Dani were mere feet away from her, or that Elias was right behind her. She just knew that no one was near her and she was out of her element. Having never had so much wine before and now in a room with many people, Athanasia could feel her panic slowly build as she spun the ring on her index finger while looking around for her companions.
Her head moved quickly till she found Elias, he was standing there looking at her as he spoke her nickname quietly. It was all she needed as she focused on him, moving almost instinctively closer till she was almost leaning into him. If he moved his arm, it would easily be able to wrap around her shoulders with no stretching out needed. The budding panic washed away as if it never were there and Elias was her anchor to keep her from floating away. When he asked if she was partaking, Athanasia's cheeks burned as she shook her head quickly. "No.. I.."
Athanasia felt hot all of a sudden as she looked up at him, studying his features. From the coolness of his eyes to the shape of his lips, Athanasia took her time to just look at Elias. How could she tell him that she had never been with someone before and yet there they were in a brothel? That standing where she was next to him, it was the closest she had ever been with a man. When he told her that he would also not partake, it surprised her. "You aren't? Why not..?" The alcohol made her blunt, the surprise clear in her voice that was also mixed with a tone of being pleased with that. Was it because of her? Taking a sip of the new wine, Athanasia felt it burn as she swallowed. It was then that she allowed the alcohol to bolster her boldness as she laced her fingers with Elias' and held his hand.
Looking over at Kaia, Aea, and Dani; Athanasia smiled as Kaia picked her man. "We're going to go sit over there, if any of you wish to come sit with us, but that couch looks comfy." And she wanted to sit down, so with Elias' hand in hers, Asia made her way to the seat and pulled Elias down next to her. Taking another sip of the wine, Athanasia leaned against him while looking up at Elias. "Would you like a drink?" Holding up her glass, Asia offered Elias a drink from her own cup.

Some of her irritation dissipated when Kaia smiled and pressed her forehead against Aea's. Not enough to make her truly relaxed, not even slightly relaxed, but enough to remind her that she still had Kaia.
Aea shrugged and smiled back, looking as true as a real badge of merriment. "I will," she said, "But you must before I do. Go."
And so she did. Aea watched her walk away and didn't turn until the blonde stopped before a man. Kaia’s needs seen to, Aea turned at the waist and sought her party. When she saw them upon a far couch, her mouth pulled down into a deep frown.
She could not stop anyone from wanting to fuck and subsequently break a heart in the process. Not a noble or royal or whatever the fuck he was. But she could at least observe him. To what end, she didn't know, but only because he hadn't done anything to warrant an answer. Yet.
And if he did, it couldn't be her that gave it. No authority but Asia's could stop the swing of an axe to her neck, and unfortunately the princess’ wishes were not enough to halt it. If it was a matter of life and death for the princess, Aea might be pardoned for running The Boy through. But this was not life and death. It was sex.
Aea was powerless when weighed against the desires of a man's cock. That disgusted her. He disgusted her. That he brought a rather breathtaking servant along that made it rather obvious what services he took freely while having the audacity to try and find a royal hole to plug. Fucking pig. Maybe he’d squeal if she strung him up.
She sat on a stool near enough to hear and see Asia and The Boy, but far enough to blend into the background. She took neither drink nor food, and if any whore glanced at her for coin they were met with either the side of her face or the whole of her frigid stare and knew better than to pitch their wares. Instead, she waited, acutely aware of her company and growing less impressed with the puny boy-man by each drop of sand.
Aea might be nothing, might be powerless, but every good murderer knew the value of alternative tactics.

Athanasia was feeling overheated as the scented air and oiled bodies surrounded them all like a cocoon. The alcohol made her cheeks flushed bright as she sat there with Elias, sipping on her drink after offering him some. Asia could not explain it as she let herself float away in the sensations that held her in its thrall. She would swear that she was floating in her favorite hidden lake, warmed in the sun while the water cradled her in its gentle hold.
It was not long before Aea came back without Kaia, making Asia think that Kaia must be having her own fun somewhere else, pulling Asia's attention to the woman that sat on the stool not far away. She was so beautiful in Athanasia's opinion, so much so that she just stared at her friend and studied her face. Amber honeyed eyes meeting artic blue ones, for a moment, Athanasia forgot that Elias was even there. In her drunken state, she studied her friend from where she sat. "You are beautiful, Aea." It was a simple truth, said without a single hesitation as she looked over Aea.
Thoughts of Daniil, Elias, and even Kaia slowly faded to the back of Asia's mind, similar to leaves that floated on the surface of the water. There but a little further away from Asia's current thought process.
