Athanasia listened to Alexandros guestimations about her from just one fight, smiling as she listened but gave nothing away about her thoughts till he was finished. "Well.... I would say part right. If I wasn't already angry, I would not have assumed any insults, but you are right in that when it does happen I will give just as good as I am given." With the rest of what he said, she didn't dispute it. It was true and she admitted it, even if only to herself. "No, it can't hurt most of the time. Bad ones, yes.. but not usually." Athanasia could only think back to how some of the powerful senate leaders, some seemed afraid of. Not her father though, he was a good one. Alexandros seemed like a good one too from what she could tell.
Asia could feel herself winding down as they relaxed and talked. Asking about his story, she looked over at him when he commented on that it wasn't what she meant when she asked on how he came out here. His first answer actually made sense to her and smile, so when he made that comment, she moved her arm and elbowed him lightly. She didn't intereupt him though as she stayed quiet, listening as he spoke about his mom and life before. "I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine not having my mater around, so that must have been really hard. What is Judea like? Do you remember it?" Asia smiled when he mentioned how he joined under her brother and became a captain, not pressing it when he stated that he didn't want to speak on the messy parts without lots of wine, which she understood. In a lot of ways, he reminded her of her brothers, just more full of himself. It wasn't a bad thing either in her opinion. "I understand. I doubt I would ask even with the wine because then you would have to relive it to tell me. I wouldn't want you to do that for just a story unless you were ok with it. How different would you said is it from being a mercenary to a soilder? Do you ever miss it?"

“I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine not having my mater around, so that must have been really hard. What is Judea like? Do you remember it?”
He thought for a moment, trying to figure out how to describe the land of his birth to her. “Well, the easiest difference is that it is hotter there, on average. The climate is more arid and places that aren’t near the water tend to be dry and sandy. Many of the same things grow there, but there are some differences in the wildlife. There are cats the size of men with long fluffy manes around their necks called lions, huge reptiles that live in the water and snatch people whole called crocodiles, and the strangest are large animals bigger than cows but similar in build that live in the water and can swim faster than boats called hippopotamuses. There are many languages and religions in the region, owing to the influence of the natives, the Persians, and the Babylonians. Some of them even believe in or worship only one god of many, can you believe that?” He laughed at the ridiculous nature of the Persian and Hebrew beliefs.
“I understand. I doubt I would ask even with the wine because then you would have to relive it to tell me. I wouldn't want you to do that for just a story unless you were ok with it. How different would you said is it from being a mercenary to a soilder? Do you ever miss it?”
He smiled softly at her, very appreciative of her understanding of his dilemma. “Perhaps one day I will feel comfortable enough to tell you all about what happened, but, until then, I truly appreciate your understanding. It is a story I do not tell lightly.” He was forced to pause and think as she asked him the next question. “The difference between leading mercenaries and leading soldiers is not functionally very different. I still lead men into battle. As a mercenary, you have to keep people under your banner with your charisma and prowess or they will find someone else to work for, the military will kill you for deserting like that. I also no longer have to search for clients and then go before them and peacock to show how strong my force is and hope that we get hired and hope we get paid for our work. My life is much easier and I have many more privileges as an officer than I did as a mercenary. I do miss some of the people in the company, the ones I had known since I was a child and my father was teaching me how to fight.”

Asia listened as Alex took a moment to answer her, wondering just what it was like where he was from. She knew he had to be different since she wasn't used to seeing many with such bright blue eyes, though she did know they exsisted. She just didn't see them enough to find them a common sight, and after hearing that his mother was Judean, she would bet that he had his mother's eyes. It was interesting to watch the warrior soften as he spoke of his family and where he came from. "Lions and crocodiles sound almost to fantastical to be believable. Hippopotamuses sound kind of cute though. Cows are, unless it is a bull, then I just want to smack it over the head when it bellows at me." Listening as he explained more about the people and even religions, Asia couldn't help but lift her head and look over at him as he stated that some worship only one god. "Just one? They think that one god can handle everyone and everything? That is crazy! There are many gods, even the 12 Olympians have other gods to help them. Their lovers and kids too. One god? That must be so lonely for them. How would one god hear everyone's prayers or recieve their offerings? That seems greedy too."
Asia's mind couldn't fathom only one god to look over everyone, so she let the topic go. When they moved on to the topic of killing and not pressing him for information, Asia returned his smile. "If you do, I will listen. But I do understand not wanting to talk about it, I heard stories.. When I snuck into camp with Silas to train some with him, I heard some stories and how it gave some of the men nightmares. Some seemed to enjoy it, I avoided them." Pausing a moment, she was looking back up at the passing clouds before she added, "Before you yell at me, no one but Silas knew I was a girl. Also, I was already yelled at by every male in my family plus my mother and my Ntanta. I don't need to be yelled at again." In an effort to distract from any snapping, Athanasia asked about Alex's merc days and if he missed it, smiling when it made him pause. Athanasia had to admit that she was pretty relaxed now after the fight, the breeze was blowing gently as her eyes shut, listening to her new friend talk. "If that is how it is between being a mercenary and a captian, I can see why you would prefer to be a captain. Have you ever tried to have the men you knew join in your company? They might like the stability as well?" Turning her head just slightly, she looked over at him curiously.

“Lions and crocodiles sound almost to fantastical to be believable. Hippopotamuses sound kind of cute though. Cows are, unless it is a bull, then I just want to smack it over the head when it bellows at me.”
Alexandros laughed as she responded about the various animals. “I assure you that they are all very real. Perhaps someday you will get to see them. Then you might understand that the hippopotamus is anything but cute. They are the deadliest animal there. Quick to anger and highly territorial, you want nothing to do with such beasts. Whacking one over the head would surely be a death sentence.” He said with another soft laugh. Her amazement was amusing to him, but he could understand why she was amazed.

He smiled softly at the princess as she talked about how absurd she found the worship of only a singular god. “It is not that they believe there is only one god that exists, more that they worship their chosen god exclusively. The Hebrew people, as they call themselves, pray and sacrifice exclusively to the god Yahweh. He is a god of storms and warriors, and they believe he and his armies help them in battle. My mother believed this way, of course her father was a priest. She taught me her beliefs as a child. I have surely forgotten more than I remember, but I do still pray to her god before battle, perhaps he hears and helps, perhaps he doesn’t, I will likely never know the answer. My father worshipped Athena and Ares primarily amongst the gods, and so too do I.”

Also, I was already yelled at by every male in my family plus my mother and my Ntanta. I don't need to be yelled at again.”
He frowned for a moment as she assumed that he would yell at her for sneaking into the camp. “Why would I yell at you? I have told you that I think you should be allowed to join us in Taengea, what makes you think I would disprove of sneaking out to see your brother? It may have been dangerous and not terribly bright, but if you wished to see him, then you should have gone. Preferably with someone to look after you. I will never tell you not to do something you desire to do, whatever lessons are learned from those experiences are the most important ones.”
“If that is how it is between being a mercenary and a captian, I can see why you would prefer to be a captain. Have you ever tried to have the men you knew join in your company? They might like the stability as well?”
“I don’t know what they would like. They were supposed to be my men, to follow my command after the death of my father, but instead they betrayed me and his memory by leaving to follow one of his Lieutenants. I don’t really care if they do want stability, traitors don’t deserve such comforts.” His words were soaked in a sadness that came from deep within in, and vitriolic hatred seeped into his voice as he called them traitors. He did not believe that the pain they caused him that day would ever go away.
