Did it really matter what happened in the end? Hands tightened around the rope as it was heaved away from the dock. The sun shined down in rays of light, sparkling the water. The air was fresh and sweet, as Adrestus stretched out back looking at his ship. His ship was vast against the clouds, and his crew was getting it ready for the voyage. He had everything prepped and planned. Food was set for a month or so, enough to feed everyone and then some. Adrestus was dressed in clothes meant for sailing, and he had already locked his land clothes away, for good. He had already said his goodbyes… to everyone.
There's a thousand reasons I should go about my day
Goodbyes were hard for him, and there were tears seen. There was no one to tell him, no, and even his parents knew he had made up his mind. There was anger, and bitterness, but also acceptance. Their son was what he was- and even though it hadn’t been said, they still had to love him. Adrestus was forgoing his inheritance to his brother, and instead of going head into his family’s trading business. He figured that his skills were better used in making his family money, rather than political gains. Even his father couldn’t argue that.
And ignore your whispers which I wish would go away, oh
Adrestus wouldn’t be in Athenia for years to come, and if he was honest he didn’t think he’d be back. There was nothing for him here anymore. His family would be taken care of by his brothers, and his sisters would be just fine. He knew Dione and Rene could take care of everything, just like she always had. He had left a rose for Ari, with a note of how to reach him if she ever wanted to. If she read the note, which he hoped- there would be a proposal waiting for her.
You're not a voice, you're just a ringing in my ear
It was time for new adventures, new friends, a new life. He was never a man to settle down- in his heart, he had always known that. He would go to the kingdoms he knew, but eventually, his trading routes would go even further. Out beyond, into the unknown. New money, old money, and even more crazy times were to be had. It’s not worth the details right now, but he saved even more people throughout his life. He prayed to Poseidon every day, and at the very end, was blessed by him.
Was it worth the adventure, the thrills? Did he reach his potential? Did he find great happiness, in the end?
Hell yes.
Are you out there? Do you know me? Can you feel me? Can you show me?
P.S: I had Adrestus leave Athenia. I’d like to think, Adrestus was following us. Away from Athenia, away from Aeipathy. He is a refugee. He got out, like us <3
