Barely a week since their last meeting, the sealed letter was passed from Nikos, to a trusted attendant, who in turn would give the letter to a handmaiden of Evangelina of Leventi. Nikos did not wish for prying eyes to know he was seeing the young woman - namely his father or her uncle. Not yet.
In his scrawling hand, it read thusly:
Lady Evangelina, I very much enjoyed our time on the beach. It was one of the more enjoyable mornings I have had in quite some time, and I have thought of it fondly since. I am glad for having run into you at the temple. I had lost interest in so much of what I usually enjoy. I had begun to think something was wrong with me, until I saw your beautiful face and felt alive again! Your wit and passion have sparked something within me that I had feared gone forever. I thank you for this dearly.
Will you grace me with you company again, my lady? Tomorrow? I will be waiting outside the city gates just before midday. I should like to go riding with you across the countryside, and perhaps we can share another picnic.
