When Imeeya received the invitation from Asia to visit the hot springs with her, Imeeya was completely ecstatic. She was so bored. Ever since her mother had heard the rumors that she was having some sort of romantic dalliance with a pirate, she had been largely confined to the house without much to do. Not that she hadn’t been spending her time productively. Ever since she had learned about the problem with slaves being stolen in Dolomesa, she had been coming through the records and books at their home in Midas looking for a solution to that problem. She knew she had spent too much time at that when it had gotten to the point where she had started having dreams about balancing ledgers, trying to determine if there was an unexplained shortfall and why. She was desperately in need of a change of pace.
Not that she expected this trip to be relaxing. The last time she had talked to Asia, it had resulted in the two of them shouting at each other in front of half of Colchis. Admittedly tensions had been running high with an attempt on Vang’s life, followed by the return of King Tython, and then an attempt on his life. Still, there was no reason for Asia to have believed the rumors. The princess had known her for her entire life, was there anything that she had ever done that would give Asia any indication that she would be willing to ruin her reputation by cavorting with a pirate? She should know better.
By the time Imeeya reached the hot springs, she had talked herself into being frustrated with Asia again. Luckily, she was escorted straight away into a private room with the princess waiting on a bench to the side of the pool. Imeeya smiled a polite, if not overly friendly smile at Asia. “Thank you for inviting me out of the house. I don’t believe my mother would have allowed me out otherwise.” Imeeya undressed unselfconsciously and slid carefully into the hot water up to her shoulders. She and Asia had grown up together, and this wouldn’t be the first time they had seen each other naked, nor was it likely to be the last. The warm water, while relaxing, was not enough to completely make Imeeya forget about the tension still standing between the two girls. Imeeya only hoped that Asia had a good explanation for her previous behavior, or this was going to be one awkward discussion.

Yanni felt a tiny bit of pride as her son addressed her properly, affection was not shown much in their family, at least not in the typical way, and especially not in public. They were members of the royal family, and though the love among the Kotas family was clear, and the bond between mother and son was just as obvious, Yanni had never thought it appropriate for her sons to show such affection to her in public once they were old enough to understand it.
“And we will keep those trials in the past, and turn our eyes towards a brighter future. For all of Colchis.” She said, though it was easier said than done. She hadn’t been able to help but linger on all that had happened in such a short amount of time. She swore that between her son and husband, she had been aged fifty years more than she should have been. Worry for her family was what she blamed for the lines on her face.
Before much more could be shared, and before she had a chance to really say anything to Magnus, there were sudden screams and a rush of people running partially naked from the bathhouse. She caught the word snake, and her brows furrowed. What would a snake be doing in the bathhouse? It couldn’t have gotten there on it’s own. She watched as her son hesitated in entering the women’s side of the bathhouses, but the young Thanasi boy didn’t. He rushed in there as if the privacy of the female citizens meant nothing to him. She didn’t know whether to be unhappy for his lack of hesitation, or grateful that he was so willing to rush to help.
Yanni made note of the way the boy carried the snake, how it seemed almost... bonded to him. She was aware of the sigil of his family, but the simple fact would not turn a wild snake tame. She was sure that the beast had been planted, though it was not her place to look into such things. She didn’t like how easily the Thanasi boy had calmed it and simply walked out with it. Something was very odd about that.
Instead she waited silently, observing and taking in anything that was important around her. She listened to her sons words, and knew that his friend and master informer would take over looking into who or what had caused the snake to be in the bathhouses. She paused a moment before she stepped forward to address the crowds of people, some women still attempting to cover themselves with what ever they could, having rushed out without their clothing.
“There is no need to panic.” She started, the crowds chatter turning into a whisper and then disappearing as their Queen spoke.
“The offending creature has been removed, and the bathhouses will be thoroughly swept for any further beasts. Once the guards have declared the area clear, you all may return to the baths.” She declared, and the mood seemed to shift for the most part. Feeling she had done her part, she turned to the guards who had escorted her there.
“Sweep the bathhouses. Ensure there are no further surprises waiting the waters, come directly to me once you have finished so we may allow the citizens to return to their celebration and bathing with no further disruptions.” She commanded. The guards saluted her and then went to do as told. She let out a little exasperated sigh once the guards had left earshot. They couldn’t have one day without some sort of event?

Sil pulled a face, he didn’t want to think about how flexible Mihail might be. He did note that his friend wasn’t seeming too invested in the promise presented by the dark-haired beauty at his side, and he felt momentarily guilty that he’d palmed the tall blonde woman off on the Thanasi Lord. It surely was a blessing then when Aurhai’s sister arrived. This could make for a fine party indeed, and Mihail would have nothing to complain about because Ninsun was pretty enough too. The Valaoritis Lord was just considering how they might divert the girls away from the bathhouse when a sudden shriek rent the air, and there was a scramble of bodies from within said loutra.
Snake! Silanos was not a fan of the creatures, and he thought it quite a fine vantage point to observe those scantily clad bathers who fled from the thing. Never mind the fact that he absolutely was not risking even the tiniest bit of scandal being attached to his name lest it bring further wrath crashing down on him. He supposed though that he shouldn’t have been surprised when Mihail excused himself. The Thanasi was uncommonly fond of the venomous worms who graced the sigil of his house, and Sil guessed it was not the worst excuse to go ogle people in the baths. The question was, which side would Mihail choose?
He was saved from further considering the question when there came a quiet gasp from Aurhai, and Sil glanced down to find her sooty eyes turned up toward him, small hand pressed against his chest, the breathy “You will keep me safe won’t you, Lord Silanos” reminding Sil that he’d been more concerned about his own snake, and its future happiness.
“Huh...of course.” He had to temper the grin so it didn’t look too enthusiastic as he answered “Stay close to me and I’ll keep you out of trouble” He let a protective arm drape across her shoulder because it seemed only fair, dragging his gaze away from hers when he heard the Queen began to address the people still milling about outside the loutra.
Blah blah something about guards, it all sounded kind of tiresome, and Sil looked around at the crowd and made a judgment call. He bent down so his mouth was just close to Aurhai’s ear. “You know, I think this party has passed its best. Were you really intent on using the bathhouse? We could find somewhere a bit less... snakey to while away a couple of hours?”
And then because he was generous and kind, Silanos turned a smile upon the girl’s sister. “You are welcome too, of course, Ninsun and, uh, you as well, my lady” He had forgotten the other’s name and perhaps the invitation sounded less enthusiastic when it was turned toward her, but the Gods couldn’t blame for being a little selective, could they?

It was time her sister in the faction learned to work with them and not as a loner. Besides, she needed this girl to do something positive in the group in order to confirm that Tiye's judgement was not poor. She had stuck her neck out and she sorely did not want to regret it. She had worked too hard for too long to lose her credit now.
As the lie came out, Tiye did find herself impressed by Somra ability to do so smoothly. She gave her a knowing smirk.
"Alas, I am a physician taught by our father and not of the stage." She said, sadly, and t was also true. Tiye was not terribly flexible at all and wouldn't be able to keep up with Somra for a moment if they had claimed she was.
The shouts took her attention as well and she turned to see her clever yet unabashed "sister" practically throw herself in the Lord's arms. Tiye was both impressed and suppressed an eyeroll at the display. As someone who had drawn venom from a snake for a pain medication, Tiye was also unafraid but did not feign fear as Somra had. She did however look to the ground and keep alert for the tell tale slithering that might mean a deadly bite.
Then, this rich suitor suggested they go elsewhere and Tiye’s stomach churned. Did he mean to use them for his pleasure? No, it was clear, his intent was on Somra. His tone suggested what Tiye was used to and pretended did not bother her. These glamourous women who did their hair and scents, and dressed in clingy fabric were more desirable than she could ever be. He wished the ugly sister allow him time with the pretty one. It was not a thought she dwelled upon long but it was one that stung. Perhaps for a moment, she showed it.
“It seems as if the baths have been cleared if I’m hearing correctly. Perhaps we should brave it for the sake of cleanliness.” She was giving Somra a choice in that moment. To go off with the nobleman or to save him for another day. Perhaps waiting was best, he could lead them to some money or another opportunity. Or, was she actually attracted to him? Either way, Tiye was not in control of Somra’s life or decisions. She just wanted her decisions to be more centered around the group she was in than herself.

Waiting as his mother gave her orders to the man that were charged with her protection, Vangelis did nothing to disrupt either her commands nor her authority in general. In all of Greece, a Queen and King retained equal power over the kingdom, but it seemed to him to only be in Colchis that such a legal step was indeed put into action. Perhaps it was Colchis' belief in strength residing in both genders - hence their acceptance of female archers in the military. Perhaps it was the simple fact that, as a military nation, their king was often abroad handling conflicts and battles. It fell to the Queen to issue edicts and instruction on his behalf. Naturally the people accepted and had fallen into the position of accepting Yanni's orders as if they were Tython's.
The only edit that Vangelis stepped forwards to make when Yanni issued instruction to her men was to raise a hand and stop two of the half dozen that had come with her to the loutra in their tracks. With a simple upturned palm and a meaningful look towards his mother, Vangelis ensured that the Queen was left with two capable guardsmen and took up the flagging search team himself.
Now that the bathhouse chambers for the women was more or less empty, barring private rooms to the east and west, Vangelis stepped through the doorway with the other men in Kotas livery and supervised the sweep of the room.
Given the white tile, white stone and crystalline waters, it did not take long for them to establish an absence of any other reptiles, or any holes around the walls of the room through which just such a creature might enter.
It was a quick moment in time before Vangelis was returning to the Queen and, instead of offering an announcement himself regarding the safety of the chambers, he deferred to the highest authority in the room and simply murmured to his mother that all was secure and clear, so that she might hold the prize of issuing an assurance of safety to their people...

Yanni shot Vangelis a little look as he stopped two of her guard and had them stay with her. She thought it ridiculous that she needed this many guards in such a public place in the first place, but she didn’t argue or go against her son’s decision. She supposed he just wanted to ensure his mothers safety, and how could she possibly blame him for such a thing?
Her attentions then turned to Mihail and the snake that he seemed to have befriended. She didn’t like his family, nor did she particularly like the boy, but there was no reason to show as much.
“I’m sure the master informer would appreciate any information you have on the creature, you seem to be knowledgeable in them.” She said simply, a hint to the boy to present himself and the beast to Magnus so it’s origin might be discovered, or at least attempt to be discovered. She very much doubted the beast had just happened to wander into the brand new bathhouses when it would disrupt things the most. She felt like it had been placed there by someone on purpose.
Yanni then turned from the boy, stepping a bit more forward to look out over the crowds that were still gathered there, waiting for news. She waited there silently, eyes grazing the crowd to see if she could divine their thoughts, for the most part things seemed sort of calm, though the clear discomfort of those who had gone running from the bathhouses made her feel for them. Clearly it would be best for them to usher everyone back inside sooner rather than later, and try to save face from this embarrassing incident.
Vang returned soon and whispered to her that things were all clear. She stepped forward once more to address the crowd for what would hopefully be the final time that day. Any more incidents and people would start muttering about being cursed by the Gods or some such thing.
“Citizens of Colchis!” She started, and once more the chatter all but died off as her voice rang out over them.
“The bathhouse has been cleared, it is safe for all to return to it’s walls once more!” She declared, and a small cheer went up through the crowd as people allowed the mostly naked women to make their way inside again first. She moved back over to her son, putting a hand on his elbow as a small sign of affection.
“It seems lucky that you and your master informer were here to witness such a thing.” She said, wondering what exactly the two men had been doing, it didn’t seem like they were there to bathe, nor to celebrate with the people, the slight hints of dirt on her sons clothes spoke to another reason for his visit, and vaguely reminded Yanni of time gone by when he had been a young boy, covered in all sorts of grime from his studies, both with sword and word.

Somra couldn’t help but internally scoff at the man as he fell completely and utterly into her woman in distress ploy, he was almost too easy. She had him wrapped around her little finger with such ease, she didn’t even really have to try.
Her dark eyes looked up as a woman spoke, seeming to command attention. If she had to take a guess, with the woman’s age and commandment of the crowd and guards, this was the Queen. Interesting that she was here, Somra wondered why such an important political figure would attend the opening of bathhouses. She wondered who else might be around from the royal family, or close to the royal family at least. Perhaps someone closer to her age that she could befriend. As tempting as Silanos was, she was here for another reason, and Tiye wasted no time subtly reminding her of such.
Somra looked back up at Silanos, reaching up to run her fingers down the side of his cheek and neck.
“Unfortunately I must tear myself from your embrace. I did promise my sister that we would spend the day together, our work has kept us quite separate for some number of days.” She lied smoothly, though she leaned up to press a ghost of a kiss to Silanos’ lips, their lips barely touching as she did so before she pulled from his touch and gave him a grin.
“I will seek you out once more when the timing is more... opportune.” She said, moving over to Tiye, she looped her arm in her ‘sisters’ and started them towards the bathhouses, her hips swaying in a way that she knew Silanos would be watching. She would leave him wanting for more, and she would find him later, when she had more time for personal pleasures and Tiye wasn’t around to keep her from indulging in such personal pleasures.
“Come then, sister, lets go see what we can find.” She said in a low voice, speaking only to Tiye as they headed towards the bathhouse. Her eyes were on the Queen, or the woman she thought to be the Queen, she was discussing something with a rather handsome man, and that strange boy who had been in Silanos’ company earlier, who now held the snake. She wasn’t an expert on snakes by any means, most of her knowledge aside from handling them was which ones could kill you and which ones couldn’t. She had thought in the past to include a snake in her performances, but if it got out of control and bit someone, she would have a lot of issues. And she wasn’t one of the fake performers who would defang them so they weren’t a threat. She liked her danger real.
“So where now then?” She asked, turning her attention to Tiye once more.

Mihail did not understand the level of distaste most seemed to hold for snakes. If one could love a dog - an action he thought truly absurd - or a horse, then he saw no reason why they should be unable to offer the same affection towards a serpent, especially when the majority were unlikely to attack unless provoked (a fact he had learned through many years of caring for his own). The way Prince Vangelis's lips changed their shape as he spoke did not go unnoticed, but he said nothing, only stroked his thumb gently on the top of the serpent's head, as if to reassure it that all was well.
It was thus unsurprising when the Prince accompanied his facial gesture with a comment that the snake should be removed from the loutra, nor that he did not seem to care for its wellbeing. Mihail had no intention of casually disposing of the snake outside the building, or leaving it anywhere he imagined some dimwitted soldier would immediately move to harm the beast. As he turned towards both the royals who had suggested he pass his knowledge onto the Master Informer, his expression was almost thoughtful: still considering the safest actions to take for both the serpent and his own health, given that being seen cavorting with the reptile was unlikely to win him many favours. "I would be glad to do so. I cannot offer much help, however, only what little I can assume."
The Master Informer was not a man in which Mihail had much interest. They may both have shared a taste for rumour, but the Thanasi was usually uninterested in those who did not pass their knowledge onto him. However, he assumed there was something valuable to be gained from appearing helpful to the Kotas cause - an eye for an eye, so to say, although without all the painful knocking out of eyeballs. "Master Magnus," he greeted the other, smiling the kind of smile he would not have ordinarily given this man. "I thought perhaps I might offer you some insight on the snake which has caused such panic this day. That said, I would rather you did not attempt to grab at the beast, for she too is still terrified."
"As I have already said, this is an adder - female, as her colouring gives away - and this is not a natural environment for her: she would likely prefer somewhere grassier or more open. There is not enough safety in the surrounding area, and she would never willingly venture into somewhere with so much water, unless she was certain of safe and dry land nearby." That much was ironic, and he could not help but chuckle at the similarity between himself and the snake still curled around his wrist before he caught himself and glanced back up at Magnus. "Someone has clearly planted her, and I would imagine it was someone who knows their way around such reptiles, else she would have attacked at vastly incorrect handling." For a moment, Mihail paused, somewhat unsure how to phrase himself without being seen as stranger than the usual. "I should like to take her home, if you do not mind. She is a sweet little thing, and I can care for her appropriately."

Satisfied that the Thanasi boy would do as instructed and give what information he had to the master informer, Yanni felt herself feeling suddenly far more tired than she should. With her age only climbing, and all the stresses life seemed to be throwing at her lately, she found herself being drained of energy quicker than she would like to admit. Which she most definitely would not admit to anyone, not even her husband, who knew her deepest secrets. There were certain things a woman kept to herself, and being the Queen didn’t help. No one needed to know that she had begun to feel worn down after the turmoil of emotions that she had gone through in the past few weeks alone.
She then turned back to her son once more, giving him the slightest of smiles as she reached out and touch his arm, a firm touch but one filled with affection for her oldest child.
“We will talk later. For now I will return home, before any more snakes come slithering out of Gods know where.” She said, voice low so that only those standing closest to her could hear. The last thing she needed was someone to overhear her and think there were actually more snakes or something. More panic would do no one any good.
Letting go of Vang’s arm, she started to make her way back towards the crowd, the guards she had brought along with her quickly moving to once more form their protective flank around her, the crowds moving out of the way so the Queen may move past them. She felt a bit silly with such an escort, but her head was held high and she walked with the grace and poise of a Queen who had served her Kingdom loyally for most of her life. The image of the Queen that the citizens of Colchis had grown used to, a woman unwavering in her duties and unencumbered by the chains of irrational emotions.
As she made her exit, Yanni couldn’t help but yearn to be back in her office, dealing with things from the comfort of her chair instead of dealing with snakes and far too much public nudity.

Fate was a cruel mistress. From one moment thinking he had secured not one but two promising companions for he and Mihail, to finding himself summarily abandoned by all his company in the next, Silanos was rapidly readjusting his opinion as to whether it had been worth getting out of bed.
Blue eyes flickered between the two women as he witnessed their exchange, and then much to his chagrin, Aurhai was letting him down gently and an irritated expression crossed the lord’s face even as her fingers traced lightly over his jaw. He wasn’t interested in promises, he was the one who made promises and there was very nearly a pout on the young lord’s face as he listened to Aurhai’s excuses. “Well don’t let me keep you from your sister” he said, only a touch petulantly. The suggestion of a kiss went some way to quelling his disappointment, but still, it ended with him watching the dark-haired woman saunter away with her sister and then shooting a displeased look at the beast of a woman he’d been left with. Eurgh. No Thankyou. Even Mihail had abandoned him on his entirely out of character quest to be heroic. Damn it all.
Eyes lifting to the crowd which was now beginning to file back into the bath house, Silanos heaved a sigh and looked for the Thanasi lord amongst those he could see. Maybe there was something that could be salvaged after what now felt like an inglorious failure on his part with Aurhai and her sister. Shouldering his way through those people still waiting, Silanos skirted around the Crown Prince and the Queen to find his friend talking to the master informer of all people, and holding what he could only imagine was the snake at the centre of all the chaos. He eyed it warily as he drew nearer, gave the Master Informer a token nod and then turned his attention to Mihail.
“You seem to have had better luck making new friends than me” he said, glancing again at the reptile currently coiled around the Thanasi’s arm. “Though I think mine had much more potential.” He grumbled.
With the knowledge that this might indeed be his last bit of freedom for some time hanging over his head, Sil was feeling the pressure to make the most of it. And standing around the not terribly exciting foyer of the public loutra was not doing that. He shot another look at Magnus, who was not really a man he wanted to spend any time with. Particularly not given the circumstances in which he’d seen the man’s sister recently.Turning a rather bored expression on Mihail, he was already edging toward the door as he spoke.
“Can we get out of here? As entertainment, this has been sorely disappointing.”
There could be better sport found elsewhere, surely.

Vangelis watched the crowd with a steely gaze, relegating himself simply to the stone statue that created a show of force and strength behind his mother and her instructions that the bathhouse was once more free for all to use.
"I suppose." he commented at his mother's optimistic thoughts that it was a good thing that he and Magnus had been in attendance. Vangelis wasn't entirely sure what to make of such a thing. Was the timing purely coincidental, or perhaps more deliberate than that? But if it was deliberate, then why was the reptile released in the women's section of the bathhouse?
As the people of the city settled and moved back into a throng and noise of those excited for a new addition to the capitol, Vangelis looked to his mother with a slight raise to one of his eyebrows.
"I don't suppose there's any point in me playing the over-bearing son and requesting you return to the manor, Mother?" He asked, in a tone that was more sceptical than it was hopeful. Given the issues that had already risen today he wanted the Queen away from the area. Yet, knowing his mother as he did, she was a formidable woman who would neither yield nor cower.
So, instead of insisting that she return to the safety of their home, Vangelis found himself simply playing bodyguard to her for the rest of the afternoon...
