Vangelis found himself and his Master Informer to be of one mind as they looked around the tunnel. The trip down into this area had not been for the two of them to investigate and come to new discoveries but for Magnus to inform him of what he had already found - already investigated. In small matters, the Master Informer would have been permitted the trust to carry out his next actions without interference from the royal House. He would have been instructed to do what was necessary, or would have simply done it, safe in the authority of his role as master. A report would have then been sent to the royal house - to himself if he was in the capitol or to his brother Zanon. The fact that the man had brought him down to witness the tunnels himself meant two things...
One, that the existence of the tunnel was a severity in and of itself. The apparent attempt to gain access to the Hall of the Gods, or to the royal vault, was an issue of enough severity that a Kotas needed to be involved in the investigation. And secondly, that Magnus might not have had any idea where to take said investigation next.
Vangelis sympathised with the careful line that Magnus of Chaossis had to walk. The manner in which he had to be the eyes and ears of the royal House without ever breaking into the realm of actually being a spy in and of himself. It was a careful position to maintain and hard to manage a sense of trust between himself and the royals without ensuring that he brought them into matters whenever and if ever they were needed.
As the two of them spoke in inconclusive statements of speculation, it was clear that the two of them were on the same track. That Magnus' suspicions were reflected in Vangelis' interpretations.
What they needed to do next was put together evidence that either supported or conflicted with those assessments. Frustratingly, to do that, they wouldn't be able to fill in the tunnel, despite its existence remaining a risk to the vault and temples. Such a fill would cover up potential evidence of the perpetrators. And if they had gotten this close without being discovered before, they could do it again. And next time, there might not be an inconveniently timed fire to make obvious their dug pathway to their treasure.
"Speak to my brother about locating the most loyal chief of miners." He told Magnus, still with his head tilted back and turning to inspect the walls and ceiling of the tunnels as well as the opening in which they stood. "These routes could not have been dug overnight. Not without noise and people and notice. I want a professional in mine work down here to analyse the walls. I want to know exactly which pieces were dug when."
Vangelis had not the expertise to do it himself but he knew that truly experienced miners could tell from the dampness, the level of exposure and the colour of rock when and how it was dug. The fire might have burnt away all the evidence but then again, maybe not. And if they could identify when and how the tunnel was created and lengthened and added to and match it with papers from the gates or the docks - not to mention the records of offerings at the temples - they might be able to find some patterns in people vs. tunnel.
"If they can identify the tools used that might give us a lead towards the traders too." He said, this time more to himself than to Magnus for he knew the man would be aware of the different ways that they could track down the infiltrators. If the mining expert Zanon could recommend might know the tools used to dig away the rock, they could then go to the traders of those particular makes. Every avenue of investigation was a tenuous one but together they might weave a fabric that could hold some water, so to speak.
“Let us head back to the bathhouse.” Vangelis said, nodding in the direction they had come. He wanted out of the tunnels so that they could appoint a heavy guard and block up at least the entrance without much issue or damage to evidence. “This investigation needs to become top priority, Magnus.” He added, glancing at the man in a manner that suggested there was no argument to be made. They needed the tunnel blocked off as soon as possible and they couldn’t do that until the search of the culprits was over and done with. For now, no-one was to know of the tunnels and they were to return to the surface as if nothing had happened…

Maximus was once again whisked into doing his duty. There were rumors about some treasure discovered somewhere deep into the baths. Maximus has been in the baths a few times when he was a child. Bathing alone in his fathers house didn’t prepare Maximus to bathe with other men in the baths. While it was relaxing, being with other people shocked Maximus. Then again he was bathing with his brothers during the campaign against the Barbarians. Now the rumors of treasure turned out to be true after all and Maximus was sent by his commanding officer to investigate the treasure. Maximus was excited and nervous of the prospect of secrets within the place and couldn’t wait to explore it.

Fearful as he was of water, it had taken some thought before Mihail had decided to attend the reopening of the baths which he so rarely visited. He was capable of bathing in his family's archontikó, after all, and it tended to be far more comfortable to wash when those around were comprised either entirely of his own family, or of those who knew of his endless distaste for the infinite pit that a bath could often prove. Here, most individuals were either strangers, or those who could not help if he were to fall into some fit of panic at the possibility of drowning. Besides, the Thanasi name was not precisely viewed in the most favourable light at present, thanks to Father's idiotic stunt, and a part of the man almost wished he had remained in Nethisa and could avoid the disdainful gazes cast over him.
Yet he had chosen to attend regardless, and even sent a missive to Silanos of Valaoritis requesting his company in doing so. It would be easier to have someone beside him, and, although he abhorred his older brother, Mihail did not mind the younger lord. He was handsome to look at, too, even if he did resist all of the Thanasi's advances with a firmness on which he was not entirely keen.
Dressing in colours that were not his usual sort - a deep forest green accented with a silver belt and clasp - and yet still maintaining that favoured snake motif in the charms which dangled around his waist and the rings decorating his fingers, he felt oddly disconnected to his family name, almost willing to refer to himself as little more than Nethisan all over again. Still, he continued to carry himself with that haughty demeanour which presented itself so well to his harsh looks, spotting his friend (was that even the correct word?) cavorting with a pair of women. Women? One of them certainly was, though the other seemed debatable. Not that Mihail was capable of judging, given how often he was thought to be a member of the fairer sex himself.
"Si-la-nos," he called out, elongating each syllable of the name in a sing-song voice, sashaying over to the younger man with a hand resting daintily on his cinched waistline, kohl-rimmed eyes running over the two others besides which he stood. "I see I have kept you waiting so long you decided to move amongst less favourable company." Mihail gestured vaguely around them to the crowd in which they stood, thoroughly disgusted by the scent which emanated from more than a few individuals around them. He had always found cleanliness to be excessively important (one could tell by the constant impeccability of his own chambers), and being surrounded by so many who clearly had not had the opportunity to wash was far from appealing. "Was there nowhere else you could stand? I might well faint before I even lay eyes on the fine form of some stripped-down gladiator."
Momentarily, he bit his lip in dreamy enjoyment of the thought, then his eyes focused once more on the women at his friend's side, running up the length of the taller. "And who are these? Surely, you have not found friends already? Perhaps you really do have quite the gift with the ladies." Mihail reached out a delicate hand in greeting, smiling coyly at both, as if imitating his companion's propensity for flirtation. "Lord Mihail of Thanasi. A pleasure."

There was a brief moment when Silanos thought he was about be squawked at, and he almost braced himself for it. But at the last second, the dark-haired woman’s expression shifted, and instead of the scolding he had anticipated she favoured him with a smile. The Lord returned it, tilting his head a little at her somewhat clumsy compliment but hardly against accepting it. Promising?
“Aurhai” he repeated the girl’s name back to her, trying it out on his tongue. Sounded sort of exotic, which fit with those very dark eyes and her golden skin. And as she spoke on, he noted the accent that coloured her words, growing more interested by the moment.
“I am trying to be flattered at being considered more interesting than the inside of a bath house, but it's a stretch I must say.” he replied, glancing toward the crush of people making their way inside and then looking back to his new found friend. Or..friends, as he realised he’d completely forgotten the other woman. “I don’t think I caught your name?” he said to the other one, sounding like he wasn’t terribly bothered about the fact but was just being polite. She should be grateful for that, at least. But before the behemoth could answer, the Valaoritis Lord’s attention was stolen by the sound of his own name being strung out in a fashion that could only be Mihail.
Of course, the Thanasi Lord was attired in a typically flamboyant fashion, one that Sil barely batted an eyelash at anymore. Not since that first, admittedly awkward, encounter at the hot springs had Silanos thought much of how Mihail chose to outfit himself. Today was no different. Rolling his eyes at the other’s complaining, Sil gave a shrug. “I was standing somewhere that Lady Imeeya wasn’t” he muttered, before smiling widely at Aurhai as Mihail addressed them. “Besides, as you say, I made some new friends. And they are prettier than you”
At least, one of them was. Silanos wasn’t so sure about the other woman. Hulk. Thing. And that wasn’t necessarily a slight against her, Mihail could look disturbingly fetching from some angles. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained, and the Valaoritis Lord thought perhaps Aurhai was his reward for daring to step foot into the crowd of less well-groomed common folk. She looked reasonably clean at least. And as far as he knew she was not a Princess, nor being pursued by a Captain of the guard, nor any of the other things that could possibly embroil him in any further trouble. It was a little liberating to think that he could pursue her with no risk of retribution. His gaze slid toward Mihail, and Silanos looked at him beseechingly. Perhaps the Thanasi Lord might play entertainer to Aurhai’s friend? It’s what a true friend would do in such a situation. With a meaningful nod toward..Mags, was it, Sil turned a fullwatted smile back onto the dark haired girl at his side.
“I don’t believe I have seen you around Colchis before? Are you visiting?”

“I don’t believe I have seen you around Colchis before? Are you visiting?”
She listened as the woman spoke of having come from lands slightly North of Midas. Somra didn’t know where North was, or what it meant, or if it held some sort of significance in this place. Perhaps North was a bad place to be from? Or maybe a good one? She had no idea, her knowledge on Greeks was limited, and her knowledge of their lands even more so. Their conversation was cut short with everything that happened after, and Somra made a note to see if she could get any further information from her later, she might prove to have something that could be useful for her or her group.
The Lord butchered her name of course, but she kept her smile up, giggling a little at his pronunciation of it. She had thought it one of her more easily pronounced names, but clearly this Lord had proven her different. She supposed if one was not used to the lands from which she came, the name might be a little more complicated.
He asked her companions name, but before the conversation could get much further, suddenly a very feminine looking male walked up, and Somra had to bite her tongue to keep the surprise off her face. She had never seen a man look like that before, not even in Egypt. Despite her shock, she kept a friendly look upon her face as she took in the name and title the new person introduced himself with, staring at his hand for a moment before her larger companion took it in her stead and the more attractive Lord’s attention was turned back to her. She quickly repeated her name for the benefit of the newcomer.
“Aurhai.”
She said before gladly following Silanos’ lead and turning her attentions back to him, dark eyes holding his gaze.
“You could call it visiting. Or business, which would be more accurate.” She said, biting her bottom lip just the slightest bit to keep his attentions on her. She knew what she was doing when it came to flirting, how to subtly draw a mans attention to the features she wanted him to notice. Clearly he had already noticed her chest, considering where his hands had been only a moment before, now it was time to draw him to her other best features. Her eyes, her lips, and last would be her legs, glad of her dress choice even more now.
“I’m a street performer. Acrobat mostly. Very flexible.” She said with a raised eyebrow and a little giggle, hoping the bait would be taken and the Lord would be practically drooling over the thought of seeing just how flexible she was. And he might get the chance, if he played his cards right. Colchis was boring after all and getting closer to a Lord might serve her well.

She listened as the woman spoke of having come from lands slightly North of Midas. Somra didn’t know where North was, or what it meant, or if it held some sort of significance in this place. 'Prettier' seemed a subjective term to Mihail, and he did not entirely believe that both the individuals that stood before him and his friend were prettier than he. It was a ladylike sort of term and, although one of the women certainly fit that description, the other was tall and masculine in all those ways which the Thanasi was feminine, as if he were looking in some strangely reversed mirror. She took his hand in a rough grip which almost made him feel as if his own palm would emerge from the hold covered in new callouses that it had never born in the past, a far cry from the kiss he had actually expected.
The other woman had greeted him with the kind of attitude which implied she wished to continue her conversation with Silanos (a reaction to which Mihail had grown more than used since they had first met). His friend too, wore an expression which seemed to make it clear he wanted the older lord to offer his attention to the tall woman so that he might continue his apparent attempts at flirtation with the darker-haired woman. Very well. Mihail imagined the conversation was something he would be able to manage with little trouble. He had never thought himself lacking in social abilities, even if both his brother and father seemed to believe otherwise. Offering both Silanos and Aurhai a nod of acknowledgement and a light smile, he turned his gaze on the taller woman.
Her name was not a familiarly Grecian one, although he had not expected such a thing, and he repeated it as if tasting the sound of the name on his lips, attempting to pronounce it as she had. A nickname would have been easier, but he had always shied away from diminutives, bar his own, particularly when he was not all that familiar with the individual in question. The statement as to her origins made Mihail frown, for he had never cared enough to study geography in much detail, and aside from Egypt, he knew little of the lands outside of Greece. "And what is it which brought you to Colchis?"

He was no fool had he known what to proceed with, but this happenstance was an anomaly that Magnus was...not quite sure how, especially not with how unstable things currently were in the Grecian realm, as well as what has happened at the dinner where much has unfolded. The idea that someone was trying to overthrow not only the royal family, but to seek murder, was unnerving, but not impossible to Magnus. Afterall, he's done his fair share in ensuring as little of those things happened as possible - but it was not possible to cull them all.
His goal right now, was simply to bring to the attention of the royal family the existence of such a tunnel, before he proceeded to gather further information. But for that to happen, no one of the public should be privy to the fact that they knew the tunnel existed. Which meant after his discussion with Vangelis was concluded, they were to go up and join the masses at the new bathhouses, and went along as if nothing else had happened. His plan was to barricade the area up, but also do it under the guise of there being more dangerous renovation works to be done. Would the owners of this illegal tunnel find another way in?
What the crown prince suggested also held merit, for it would give a lead as to who it was if the chief miner could identify the tools used. The methods and directive's to achieve the results they needed would be tricky, for it meant Magnus had to once again tread the careful line of spying to gain information, but not disturbing the brushes enough to scare away the snakes, but the man was convinced he'd be able to do it. He's spent years as a litigant gathering a small army of informant's for this exact purpose, and with the correct people pointing him in the right direction, Magnus was convinced he'd get the information, if not sooner then later.
He nodded briefly, falling into step behind Vangelis as they headed back to the bathhouses, his mind already was working like cogs to figure out his next step that he merely glanced over when the crown prince stated the priority of the investigation. There was no need to remind the man - he was clear on what had to be done, having been in duty for so long, he wasn't about to argue on what was clearly the right thing to do. Instead, Magnus merely nodded as they emerged to the bathhouse, and waved a hand behind him for his men to return to guard the entrance.
With a charming smile that he wore for other's, the man's posture quickly slanted to one of more ease instead of the tensed up one he had beenn posturing, and addressed the questioning eyes at the guards. "No worry to be had. There are a final few, minor renovation works to be completed, and it is safer if none of you head there for now - but do enjoy the rest of the bathhouses! I assure you that what is open to the public is definitely safe for all." It was exactly this charming demeanour and tone that Magnus managed to get as many informants as he did - that, and his genuine nature in helping anyone who came to him asking for such a thing.
But it wasn't a ruse he could keep up forever - the investigations had to be concluded quickly.
So once he had ensured everyone was caught up in marveling and discussing the new amenities and possibilities the new bathhouse would bring them, the spymaster slipped quietly away, already a task list as long as his arm in his head.

Tiye noted that their newest recruit was getting all kinds of attention. Being used to being painted and dressed for just that, the physician was not surprised. Tiye herself was not used to such attention seeking behavior but she knew how to do it when it was necessary. There had been ore than one occasion that caused her to strut now and then in order to reach their goals. But, Tiye suspected that Somra was after her own goals more than those of the group.
Still, her ability to make friends was impressive. An introvert, Tiye was hardly comfortable simply talking to some stranger for the sheer reason to have a conversation or socialize. It looked too suspicions to lurk however.
Taking in a small breath, Tiye let her hair down from the deerskin tie that kept it bound. She pulled down her hood and tied the deerskin cord around her waist to show off her figure. She approached the group, "Aurhai, sister. How rude of you to ditch me for new friends." Her tone was light as if she were teasing a sibling.
At least one of these was a noble, not a bad mark, she thought.
"Do introduce me, sister." She said in her most bubbly voice. It was time to put Somra to the scam test.

Mihail was a true friend, Silanos decided, as the Thanasi Lord stepped up to engage with the tall ,fair-haired woman, and left him free to return his attentions to her much prettier companion. The Valaoritis Lord kept his very blue eyes firmly fixed upon Aurhai as she answered his question, and he painted a mildly interested look upon his face as dark-haired beauty indicated she was in Colchis for business.
“Is that so?” he replied, gaze dropping to where she caught that plump bottom lip between her teeth and offering an easy grin in response. She was flirting and good at it, and Sil was always willing to engage in a bit of flirting.
Unless the other participant was a Princess. His fingers had been well and truly burned there.
But he decided his luck had well and truly come in with what she had to say next, brows lifting and his mind immediately presenting him with a variety of options spurred by her admission of being an acrobat.
“How fascinating,” he said, and gave Mihail a subtle nudge with his elbow. “Aurhai is an acrobat, Lord Mihail. Isn’t that interesting?” It would not be the first time they had shared a girl, if this one were amenable to such an idea, and Silanos decided that it had not been such a terrible idea to come to this opening after all. He was fully prepared to talk to his new friend about just how flexible she was when their small group was joined by another, and Sil turned to look at the tiny woman who had spoken.
A sister? This kept getting better. Stepping back, he made way for this second, tan-skinned, exotic looking woman and sent a tiny prayer of thanks up to whichever of the Gods was smiling on him this day. Perhaps it was some small consolation for having so abandoned him to his own fate otherwise. He could have done with some divine intervention when the Crown Prince had descended upon the Valaoritis house a few days prior, but it was not to be so. Still, if this was to be the last hurrah, then it had the makings of a good one. And after the last couple of weeks, Sil was in great need of something a little less miserable than military drills and family feuds. But speaking of family..
“Sister? Yours is a family act then is it?” he asked, glancing between Aurhai and her sibling, offering the other girl a slight nod a less than subtle appraisal. “Lord Silanos of Valaoritis and this is Lord Mihail of Thanasi. You are lucky that you could not have stumbled across two finer purveyors of Colchian hospitality. And I am certain we can do better than a bathhouse before the day is through”

And I am certain we can do better than a bathhouse before the day is through”
Yanni did not wish to attend this particular event, yet as Queen, it was deemed appropriate for her to at least make an appearance. With no intentions of truly using the bathhouse, she was merely going to be there as a Queen of the people. To show those in Midas that despite the tragedies that had recently struck their city, they would always bounce back, and the royal family had their best interests in mind.
She was dressed in a dark blue chiton, cinched loosely at the waist with a braided leather belt, she wore a himation over it to provide a very slight warmth from the cooling fall weather, though it’s benefits against the chill were very slight, the extra fabric was more for looks than anything else. Her hair done in curls, done up behind her head in a regal way, she moved smoothly across the ground towards the bathhouses. As a precaution, she not only had a slave to attend to her needs, but she was also followed by men of the royal guard. With everything that had been happening, the Queen had taken a few extra steps to ensure the safety of herself and the more vulnerable members of her family.
She didn’t bother trying to get her sons to have extra security, nor her husband. She knew that the men in her family would be wounded if she had suggested that there were dangers out there that they could not protect themselves from.
She wasn’t sure if any of her sons would be here, she hadn’t heard much from them lately, all of them tied up in their own matters with recent events. Her husband as well, had been occupied, even in their nights alone, his mind seemed to be elsewhere. She did her best not to let it bother her. Men had their tasks, as she had hers.
She gave a small smile to those in the crowd who spotted her, calling their greetings and curtsying to the Queen. Her guards watched carefully, tense and ready to act in half a moments notice if anything seemed wrong. As she walked she spotted some slightly familiar faces. The youngest boy of the Valaoritis house, she couldn’t recall a time when she had personally met him, but she knew of him, and knew that her at least two of her sons were directly involved with him, though she did not know to what degree.
And the Thanasi boy, Mihail if she remembered correctly. There was something odd about him, at least in her limited opinion. And with the recent events, she wasn’t the biggest fan of the Thanasi family.
The two seemed to be attempting to charm a small gathering of women, and she left them to it, making no attempt to greet any of them as she passed by, not near enough to catch any words that were being said.
All the other faces she saw didn’t bring forth any names, and so she kept moving, not entirely sure of her goal at this time. She moved easily toward the front of the bathhouse, intent on at the very least inspecting and admiring the construction of the new building. She had no issues moving through the crowd, people parting for her, whether it was because she was Queen or because of the armed guards with her, she did not know.
She entered the front of the building, a sort of grand entrance area where men and women alike could mingle before separating into one of the various appropriate bathing rooms. She stopped as she spotted two more familiar faces than previous.
Her oldest son, and the master informer he held in such high esteem.
A small smile came across her face at seeing her first born. She did not miss the odd way that guards were positioned to block off a specific area of the bathhouses, but she did not question it, at least not in public where they could be over heard.
“My son.” She said, approaching him, her guards staying a bit back so they didn’t crowd the three as she spoke to Magnus next, giving him a slight nod, her title far above any that he held. Still, she respected him at least a little, and the fact that Vangelis seemed to trust him so much wasn’t overlooked by the Queen.
“Magnus.” She said as a way of greeting before her attentions turned once more to her son.
“The crowds seem pleased with the work done to rebuild the bathhouse. I heard only praise as I arrived.” She stated.

Vangelis had no need to put on the face and voice of a man who was assuring others of safety the way Magnus did as they left the hidden tunnels. Well known for his reputation as the Stone Prince and his inability to show emotion one way or another, he was impossible to read regardless. He could have been investigating incredibly secretive tunnels that suggested the thieving from a royal vault. But he could have also been inspecting the ceramic tile work in the new bathhouse heated quarter. His features gave nothing away in either instance and Magnus' quick and glib tongue with silver-sparked lies was enough to explain their means of exiting a hidden section of the bathhouse.
Instead, he focused on finding a place for himself within the open foyer of the building, leaning against a pillar of marble and watching the comings and goings of his populace as they bowed and greeted him with respect as and when he was noticed. He made no move to leave but also no progression into the main area of the bath house, for he held no interest in exposing himself in public when his family home held a private bathhouse for his own, private use.
Instead, he sought to use the rest of the day as a gathering of information - a second pair of eyes alongside Magnus' in order to witness if anyone of suspicious behaviour looked towards the location of the hidden tunnels or sought to inspect the doorways that would lead them to the rebellious pathways.
There Vangelis hovered, under the pretence of being a royal presence of welcome and certification over the new facilities within the capitol and instead a focal point of analysis against those who might wish to commit treason...
It was as he and Magnus had settled in the foyer for just such an inspection that the Queen herself arrived. Likely not interested in attending the actual bathhouses - for Vangelis was not certain that he had ever (even in his youth) witnessed his mother in a state of undress - it was unsurprising to Vangelis that Yanni came over to speak with them instead of becoming part of the crowds that were steadily filing into the bathhouses inner sanctums.
"Mother." Vangelis stated, nodded his head in a formal show of respect to the woman. He did not offer her a more affectionate touch or kiss as he might have done in the privacy of their own home but his eyes softened at her approach. "Yes. The people seem glad for a positive distraction with so many trials behind us these recent months..."

Curveball Coming Clean
All is well in the inner sanctum of the new bathhouses of Colchis, until a cry rings out in the cooler bathing pools from the female side of the loutra.
"Snake!" the voice calls.
Whether jest on the part of someone with an odd sense of humour, a genuine mistake or an actual reptile somehow finding its way to the bathhouse, who can tell amongst the splashing and the feminine screams of fright as naked ladies rush from the water and men rush in upon their privacy in the sake of defence against poisonous beasts...

How long were they supposed to stand out here, anyhow? Mihail was all for making polite conversation (and could often prove to be an unexpectedly charming individual, if only when it suited his own purposes), but standing outside the baths playing wingman to his friend grew boring quickly, particularly when he was paired with the...less enticing of the pair. There was hardly even a man upon which he could drop his gaze, though the woman with which he conversed might have appeared one at first sight. He thought their similarities in opposite nature somewhat amusing, but the novelty of the situation too grew dull in a few moments, and his mind searched for something else.
Mihail did not quite mind that his friend had laid claim to the prettier woman: he had a lovely man of older years with which he was all too happy to while away his hours, and letting his friend control the flirtations did not matter. His attention had drifted elsewhere, only turning back when he was nudged quite suddenly, and nodded at the idea of acrobatics. "Yes, well, I have been told I am rather flexible myself," he replied, almost absentmindedly, only nodding then when the third girl appeared and introduced herself as a sister. Perhaps they would all end up somewhere else that evening, and maybe they would not, though Mihail imagined that, whether or not he was involved, Silanos would end up with the women to himself somehow.
"A pleasure to-" he began, as his friend introduced him to the new woman as well, but his greeting was cut off by a sudden shriek from within the bathhouse. Snake. Screaming about a snake. As if they were something to be feared. People always made such absurd and immediate judgements about the reptiles, and it seemed such hatred extended onwards to Mihail's own Dynasteía as well (though perhaps for more reason than just his family crest). Perhaps this was his moment to display some degree of courage. He muttered some vague excuse to Silanos and the ladies, offering them a friendly enough smile of apology, then ducked out of their small group to investigate the particular reptilian matter.
Maybe it was lucky that Mihail made a habit of dressing in such a feminine manner, for his appearance blended more easily into the crowds rushing from the water at the sight of some serpent. He slid past them more calmly than most of the individuals running around - even the men were inexplicably hurrying to try and save the ladies from such little threat - attempting to locate the beast. It would have been easier had they been in less of a panic.
The snake in question was nothing too villainous. It was a pale brown specimen with darker brown splotches dotted evenly along its length, cowering nervously in one corner of the pool of water, having found a safer step where it was free from the true depths of the bath. The front half of its thin, soaked body had been curved as if preparing for an imminent strike, and it hissed at all who dared approach in a threatening manner. The poor darling appeared thoroughly terrified, and Mihail felt a pang of pity burst through him as he moved past those who still remained - for some women had chosen not to run and instead migrated to the opposite side of the pool in fear - and he slowly kneeled beside the reptile. He could brave the nightmare of being so close to the bottomless dangers of the water if it was to save one of those few animals for which he genuinely cared.
"Sweetheart," he whispered, his movements gentle as he reached out an open hand, doing his best not to frighten the beast further. "Come with me." It took an unsurprising moment, but once it seemed to acknowledge him as friend rather than foe, it slid towards him with less dread than it had exhibited thus far. Snakes could sense the nerves in others, but Mihail had plenty of experience with the highly misunderstood creatures, and he supported the serpent in his arms as he gradually stood once more, allowing it to find its own grip on the man's arms, as if blending in seamlessly with the charms on his arms and fingers. "It's alright."
He took a moment to run his gaze over the animal. It was an adder, and it seemed strange to find it in such an environment. The stone quarries and stony wilderness of Colchis often served them well, and, although he had seen a few on the edges of the water, the public baths barely seemed regular for them (especially given the number of patrons present). "You don't belong here," he whispered, raising the snake to eye-height, smiling at it with the kind of joy that seemed odd. It was lucky it hadn't bitten anybody. "But I can keep you safe."
Mihail did not like their Crown Prince all that much, but even he knew when others were of a higher authority, and when that authority would prove useful. Exiting the women's half of the baths, he allowed the serpent to curl its way up the length of his arm, so that it might find its own safety and comfort in his hold, and directed his way towards the stoic man who would likely be able to manage the situation a little more coherently. He did not seem mainly preoccupied at the moment, aside from conversation to the Queen, and Mihail bowed his head in some respect to the latter before he turned back to Prince Vangelis. It would not do to appear villainous when the snake he held had just terrorised the baths.
"This is an adder," he announced, proud of his identification, and his protection of most of the bath-patrons (as he saw it), and forgoing the formalities of a title for a brief moment. "She has been placed here, or she has travelled somehow, but she is afraid. More so than these people, I imagine. We are lucky she did not bite anybody." Although, in truth, this adder's venom was nowhere near as harmful as that of the snake Mihail kept at home, a fact on which he would neglect to comment now. "If you would not mind, your Highness, I would be more than happy - and capable - to aid you in discovering her origin. I do not care to see her hurt, as I imagine you do not care to see anyone here injured by cause of a misplaced snake either."

Somra was surprised as Tiye suddenly came up and introduced herself as her sister. She felt her jaw clench a tiny bit at her arrival, but other than that, her anger did not outwardly show. She hadn’t planned on sharing this Lord’s attention with anyone else, let alone someone who might be considered almost as beautiful as she was. She hadn’t been worried about the strange Northern woman and her looks, she was sure that anyone who thought Somra was beautiful wouldn’t think the same of the other woman who was her complete opposite, but Tiye was pretty in her own way, even if she didn’t use that to her advantage and highlight it like Somra did.
“My dearest sister, how could I forget to introduce you.” She said, keeping her voice calm and steady despite her anger at having Tiye interrupt her flirtations with the Lord. She wondered what had made the other female come over in the first place, let alone introduce herself as her sister.
“Lord Silanos, Lord Mihail, this is my sister Ninsun.” She said, using one of her fake names for Tiye. It was rare Somra used real names in any situation. The lie was smooth and easy, and there was no reason for anyone to not believe her words, as they came out naturally as if what she was saying as completely true.
She shook her head when Silanos asked if her act was a family act.
“I’m afraid not, my Lord. My poor sister here has not been so blessed as to share my flexibility.” She said, which was true. She wasn’t sure how athletic Tiye was, or how flexible, but she highly doubted that her skills could match Somra’s in that area. She had never met her equal in such things.
Suddenly there were screams, and people shouting ‘snake!’ as panic ensued. Somra wasn’t scared of snakes, in her homeland they were abundant, and while it was best to give them their space, she had run into her fair share of them and had had to remove them from places they shouldn’t be. But, Silanos didn’t know that, and she saw the perfect opportunity to stroke his ego and pull his attention back towards her.
Somra let out a little gasp and a shriek, pressing her small frame up against Silanos, one hand rested on his chest, her head resting upon his shoulder as she looked up at him with wide, fearful eyes. Playing the part of the damsel in distress, so he would feel as if he had saved her in some way, the brave, strong man. Somra knew how to play most people, and she did it well.
She saw the other Lord duck out of the conversation out of the corner of her eye, but she made sure to keep her focus on the Lord she was trying to seduce.
“You’ll keep me safe, won’t you, Lord Silanos?” She said in a whisper, her voice low and seductive, and quiet enough that only he would be able to hear her words over the sounds of the crowd still panicking over the sight of the snake.
Cowards. The snake could be easily handled, if someone knew how to grab it correctly so it could not bite.

Vangelis was a man of courage but also one raised with a sense of propriety and decorum. Whilst his instinct was to charge forwards towards the female half of the bathhouse, his training from a young age on the appropriate political and socially correct behaviour for a man in a woman's territory halted his steps enough to hover by the door, waiting to see if such a cry was indeed a call of threat.
For all he knew, a young lady had left her belt on the side of the baths and it had been kicked into the water, causing another panic at the serpentine-like appearance beneath the fluttering surface. Running in to dishonour the privacy of the women within was perhaps permissible if he was to rescue them from a poisonous reptile. Less so if it was to protect them from an accessory to someone's raiment.
Apparently, the same concerns did not faze the young Lord Thanasi, as Mihail entered the chambers ahead of him and set off a new round of squeals of scandal vs. modesty. In the following melodramatics, Vangelis simply hovered in case he was needed or the screams turned to a more blood-curdling level of signs of danger, glancing at Magnus at his side on whether the man thought it best to risk the decency of those still within.
Only a moment later, however, the Lord Mihail reappeared. Around his arm was coiled a snake of dull umber colouring that seemed more tepid than bright. As if he shared his complexion with his new owner.
With Mihail's words of tender comment towards the reptile, Vangelis' lip curled upwards in distaste. How the boy thought that the creature had feelings was beyond him, even more so the simple ease with which he held it. Snakes could be poisonous, rendering toxins throughout the body that paralysed, formed illness and plague, or even kill the victim. Vangelis had no knowledge of which snake that was nor if it held such potential but generally the rule of thumb was to be safer rather than sorry. Snakes were normally beheaded on sight if one could get a clean shot at them.
It was on the tip of his tongue to ask the Thanasi lord how he could possibly know that the snake was female but at the last moment, Vangelis decided that he didn't wish to know. Instead, he turned his question into one of a more productive means.
"You're welcome to inform Master Magnus of such information, Lord Thanasi." Vangelis stated, his eyes watching the creature in consideration, just in case it decided to strike out from where it had latched itself around the young man's wrist. Vangelis glanced at Magnus, silently communicating the need to investigate the issue. "But first perhaps, we might remove the creature from the loutra."
