Daybreak on the steps of Poseidon’s temple was possibly the most marvelous thing about Vasiliadon. The temple was an older temple, located on a cliff in The Quarter overlooking the sea. The air was briny and still crisp from the night before. Visits to the temple before her morning rides had become a norm. The newest Leventi stable boy accompanied her today. Than held the horses, quietly murmuring to them.
With one last look out at the sea, she sighed. The world was changing so fast around her. It hardly seemed like much time had passed since that afternoon a messenger had carried worried about what had happened to the King and his sons to Acharist. From there it seemed like everything swirled chaotically as her life began the transformation. Now Lene and Pia had fled and Theo was getting married and…
Her thoughts died as she offered a practiced smile to one of the daughters of a rustic family that supplemented their income by selling pine wreaths adorned with rock-roses. Pulling her purse out she bought a couple of them to lay at the feet of the striking God of the Sea’s feet. As the girl, counted out her change and handed it back to Evangelina she smiled again and offered a couple of smaller coins for the young girl to pocket.
With the wreath’s in hand she stepped inside the temple. It was never really busy at this time of the morning, it’s why she enjoyed it. The priests were going about their morning duties in preparation for the later morning worshipers. She smiled and offered a small wave at a couple of the friendly familiar faces of the priests before moving straight toward the altar.
Nibbling at the bottom of her lip, she placed the wreaths at his feet along with some additional coins, maybe he’d look her way and bless her horses and keep those she loved that were traveling safe. Her thoughts drifted to Lene and Pia… Please keep them safe. She lingered a little while longer still finding comfort in the quietness of the temple and the sanctity of Poseidon's temple near the sea.
Her hand pulled her ponytail over her shoulder as she walked back out of the temple still contemplating everything that was changing about them. As an island, an island that focused so greatly upon the breeding of horses and trade Evangelina believed that Poseidon was needed more than ever.
With a parting smile at the farmer’s daughter, she walked towards Than and took her grey stallion’s reins, with a soft murmur more to stallion than to anyone else, “May Poseidon bless us, Eh boy….” Her fingers rubbed his head before she swung up onto him with familiar ease. It was time for the day to begin.
