It is impossible to miss the Saepta Julia when passing by, as the building itself commands attention even among the other well-built structures in the city. Built with clear intentions toward order and grandeur alike, its rectangular expanse is framed by vast marble columns that line the perimeter and cast long shadows across the paved ground. The stonework is polished and immaculate, well-maintained to an immaculate degree that reflects the Saepta's political importance even before one enters its vast chamber. Here, citizens gather during public events, their voices carrying easily through the open chamber and down the hallways that lead to more private meetings rooms. The walls are lined with frescoes depicting scenes of conquest and civic pride and the upper friezes are decorated with similarly intricate carvings. In every corner, marble statues of the past great men of Roma stand vigilant, watching over all those who mingle beneath them.
