The Aqua Appia, once a marvel of engineering, now stands as a shadow of its former glory, practically a crumbling relic when compared to the beauty of the Celian Hill. Its weathered stone arches, once precise and unyielding, sag under the weight of time, their surfaces dotted with moss and grime. Water dribbles through its fractured conduits, turning to mere trickles in hottest months of the year and leaving the wells on the hill to run dry. When this happens, the people are left without recourse and often must travel further than convenient to fill their jugs. It is clear that the aqueduct needs replacement — and soon — but only time can tell if such a necessity will become a reality.
