Basic Information
Our encyclopaedia is vast and detailed. That's why this page was designed to give you the basic lay of the land for the Phoenician cities. On this page you'll find key terminologies, basic political, climate and economic information and the land census, with links to all current in-play and open characters within Phoenicia. Most of the information below will also direct you to other pages where you can read up on the topic in more detail. If this handy overview is still not getting you where you need to go, please don't hesitate to contact a member of our staff team on site or on our Discord server. INSERT SAMPLE VISUALS FROM VISUALS PAGE General Climate INSERT FROM LAND PAGE Method of Rule INSERT FROM LAW PAGE Social Tolerance Phoenicia is a land strict religion and customs. Stern gender expectations, sexuality norms and religious intolerance are rife in this land. Whilst ethnicities are more diverse than in other lands, culture and behaviour are strictly monitored in Phoenicia. Characters who identify as minorities in sexuality or gender-identity are unlikely to find a welcome home here. If you are looking to explore conflict and prejudiced plotlines, this could be a good setting for your character. If not, another land may be more appropriate.

For an overview of the social customs and ideals of the Canaanites, see The Canaanite People section of Phoenicia's Social page.

For more detailed information on the Canaanites' social opinions regarding sexualities, race, neurodivergence and all other forms of prejudice, see the Morals and Prejudices section of Phoenicia's Social page.

Forms of Address Getting the right form of address is important in Phoenicia. Not only does it keep the immersion of our era intact, but it saves your character making a costly social faux pas. The punishments for incorrect address are not as severe in some lands but severely offending powerful individuals could definitely lead to problematic plotlines later on.

Whilst there is no golden rule on when it is acceptable for a character to slip into informal address, a good rule of thumb is the measurement of two social ranks. The Ranks below are listed in order. If your character is just one or two ranks lower than the person they are addressing, it may be suitable for them to use an informal mode of address. Any lower and you are safer sticking with the formal.

Land Census
Below is a quick overview of the open canons, wanted ads and in-play characters in the Phoenician land: specifically, the characters who currently occupy positions of power and which roles are still open to be filled by original characters.

For more information on the different roles and levels of authority in Phoenicia see the Ranks and Hierarchy section in Phoenicia's Law page.

For the full, canon family tree of Phoenicia use this link and the 'Find:' function at the bottom right of the page, to find "Sunti Haiwattama" as a starting point. You can explore out from there.
Ruling Powers Phoenicia has no king or individual rule of power. There is no monarchy. The six cities of Phoenicia are each ruled by a Mahnheeg; a political, not regal, rank that is passed down through families deemed wise and responsible. These Mahnheegs, and their deputies, form a collective of 12 men who come together regularly to decide the collective ruling decisions of Phoenicia. Mahnheegs technically have unlimited power within their own city but do have to justify their choices to the Council as a whole in their regular meetings. All Mahnheeg families are considered nobility, not royalty.

Immediate Royal Family As there are no royal families in Phoenicia, there are no immediate royal relatives. See below for the children and families of each noble Mahnheeg house. Royal and Noble Families There are no Royal Houses in Phoenicia, only Noble Houses. There are only six of these Noble Houses, that each rule one of the six cities of Phoenicia. Those families are listed below. Unlike other lands, no new royal or noble Houses can be created in Phoenicia.

Provincial Leaders Instead of rural provinces, there are only six city states in Phoenicia, each ruled by a Mahnheeg family. The head of that family is a Councilman in the Six City Council. No other provinces are open for claiming or new House creation.

For a more detailed list of each province and its industry and benefits, see the Province Listings section of Phoenicia's Land page.

For more information on creating your own House in a different land, see our World Contribution page.
Military Leaders Phoenicia has no military to speak of. Violence and active combat go against many of their customs and daily beliefs. The city of Jerusalem has an armed order, The City Protectors but this order operates more like a civil police service than a combat regiment.

For a more information on The City Protectors see Phoenicia's Military page.
Full Peerage The entire populace of Phoenicia includes nobles and common folk from across the land. All open canons, open wanteds and in-play characters, from all classes of life, are listed below. The list also includes Legacy characters. These characters are deceased in our current timeline but open for past roleplay. Find their stories in our Historical Timeline.
