Daniil let out a sigh as she wondered through the agora. Her uncle would be returning soon she guessed, and with that would come her having to be careful about her trips, though she knew that if he was in a good mood, she could likely get him to accompany her. Rafail of Marikas shared a love of shopping with his niece.
If he asked though, she would just mention to him that she had asked for a new gown for the upcoming vote, and that she was told to go ahead as long as she had at least one of the servants with her or better yet, she had Balius with her. Balius was always eager to serve so she had no issues about contacting him and asking him to act as her escort.
The day, like many days in the summer, dawned hot and sticky. She broke her fast with a meal of cheese and fruit and watered down wine and then after a bath, in water with her traditional lavender in the water, she had Melissa help her dress in a gown that was of a light blue material and do her hair up in a up-do that took her dark locks up off her neck.. They also hung a necklace with a blue stone around her neck and the gold bracelet from Linos was slid on her wrist.
Once they were ready to go they did so, and as they walked though the area, she found herself aware of the differences in where she called home and where the agora sat, and it was a large difference indeed. Those thoughts were interrupted when . Melissa piped up. Mistress, here we are. And if I might be so bold to suggest it, something in a pale yellow might be appropriate for the event."
"Good idea Melissa after all we want to make a good impression." the young brunette replied as they began their search for the oh so perfect fabric.
Now I wish Uncle Rafi were home. Or I had thought to ask Agathe to help me with this. she thought as she rifled through the various cloth and colors. Not at all sure what would look good on her or not and would be fitting for the upcoming event....

Phew!
Zoe exhaled, eyeing from around a nearby building. She had finally lost her. Zoe's chaperone was always such a bore. She only wanted to spend her time in the upperclass market places. Didn't she very well know that the best merchandise was to be found at the Agora? Well, Zoe was biased. After all, Elegance, her shiny gold encrusted dagger was purchased in this very area under the shadow of the night, just as the specific travelling merchant was packing up. How he came across such a ware, Zoe didn't know, but it was the best purchase she had ever made. And so, she always wanted to shop around the place.
Also, it was the perfect place to scout out canvases. Nobility was far out numbered by the common men here. It was like fishing from a bucket. Zoe watched as various men and women crossed, her hand grazing Elegance, hidden beneath the skirt of her long chiton. It was always strapped to her thigh, ready for the taste of blood. A smile crawled onto her sweet face as she glanced from man to man. Too tall, too short... Too broad... Too thin... Mmm... Why was the perfect person always so difficult to find? Soon, her thirst for death would overwhelm her and she would have to settle for somebody less than perfect. As the time from her previous kill grew longer, so did the tension build in her body. It was almost cathartic to sink Elegance into human flesh. Maybe she really should pick some random person...
It was then, however, that she spotted a flash of blonde hair before her eyes. She licked her lips, her eyes gravitating to a young woman walking passed her, shopping no doubt. Zoe was quick to move around into the street, acting sweet, innocent, and casual as she followed behind her. Women were more difficult canvases to obtain, but they were some of the most beautiful. How would she convince this lady to follow her somewhere secluded? Of course, she could always just befriend her... Keep her in for the long game. But, that was sometimes messy and lots of work. After all, she would need to keep their friendship secret to not draw suspicions to herself. Hmm...
Approaching a fabrics stand, she acted as if she were interested in the items for sale, keeping her eye on the young woman who was now chatting with a merchant who seemed to be selling small trinkets only a few feet away. Zoe glanced at the various silks, multiple colors and shades. They were beautiful. Gracing her hand across one, she felt it's softness and a smile fell upon her lips once more. She then looked down, her eyes darting to where the woman was, now laughing with the trinkets merchant. For some reason, this made Zoe feel uneasy. Why did she feel... anger? Watching the merchant talking to the woman she was stalking made her body tense. They looked like they were having such a good time.
Sighing, she returned her gaze to the fabrics, hoping to keep the woman in her sights. It was then that she heard two women speaking to one another behind her, approaching the same stand she was at. The voice sounded vaguely familiar, so Zoe turned her head to see that it was Lady Daniil. Her eyes brightened, giving her an adorable smile, "Oh! Lady Daniil! Fancy seeing you here!" She then gave her a curtsey before standing back up, looking passed the royal lady, over her shoulder at the woman with blonde hair who was still laughing with the trinket merchant. She looked back at Daniil, "I was thinking about purchasing a new chiton."

Balius had only agreed to escort Daniil through town today because there was nothing more pressing or important that was needed of him by the monarch and matriarch of the house. He needed to take a day off of training anyways, he'd overdone it and his bad leg was sore. It took a bit of will to prevent a limp to be seen but after years of hiding pain and weaknesses, made it near impossible for others to tell he was in pain. Either way, going with the young royal lady of the household wasn't such a bad idea. After all Mistress Ivra had beckoned his attention before they had left, she had requested for him to find a specific item for her. More than happy to oblige the old lady, he really did hold great respect for her, Balius took the extra coins she'd given him for her desired merchandise.
It was much more relaxed to tend to Daniil than it was to tend to Lord Rafail at the market. The ass of a man was intolerable with how nitpicky he was with choosing things. As well, the young miss had a servant girl with so Balius wasn't purse-boy this time, thank the gods. Instead, this gave him leeway to wander and browse whenever Daniil stopped to look at something. He always kept her in view but didn't hover annoyingly. Plus, if anything really big happened, the servant girl knew to call for him right away. He would hear and be there in an instant. After all, Balius was a gladiator escorting, not some trained guard dog of a soldier. He'd never allow himself to be that blind minded and obedient. Could not give up punishments that easily.
As the girls looked at clothing, Balius crossed over to a neighboring vendor that had leather goods. Something he preferred over cloth-wear, he needed to indulge once in a while and use his winnings for something sometime anyways. Balius was searching through the various items when a quick movement out of the corner of his eye snapped his head up to see an inevitable scene unfurl before him. A weasel of a man had darted out behind a woman passing the booth to grab her money pouch off her waist. A small knife was out to cut the cord that attached pout to owner, when the gladiator stepped forth into action. "Thief!" Roared Balius as in a few quick strides, he grabbed the man by the tunic and yanked him back. Halting the crime instantly.
The lady screamed in surprise but her money was safe as it took her a moment to realize Balius was stopping the theft and not committing it. Balius snarled as the small thief slashed the blade across his forearm, he almost released the man out of reaction to being cut. It didn't happen though, Balius was used to such things and the reactionary thing that happened was his heavy first colliding with the vermin's face. The thief crumpled instantly and Balius snatched the blade from him, "Whelp." He snarled, grabbing for the dropped blade quickly, yet that was enough time for the groaning heathen to scrabble frantically out of Balius's grab range again. The thief, though staggering blindly from his bloodily crushed nose disorienting him, had gotten to his feet again and was pushing through the throng of the market in a staggering manner.
Balius pursued. He wasn't going to let the prick get away that easily for being such a low life. It didn't take much for the crowd to divide to allow his hulking figure to move through. He gained ground quickly on his running prey. The thief was scared, dazed and stumbling but still not enough to stop the man from creating obstacles. Yanking baskets and other merchandise racks over, the thief was determined to make it as difficult for Balius to catch him as he could. Balius wasn't grateful at all for this!
The arena fighter roared in a shock of pain as, just as he had almost had his hand on the culprit, the rat had toppled a complete shelf of pottery. The corner of which drove straight into Balius's left leg, his bad leg, causing an instant Charlie horse cramp to envelope the entire thigh muscle. It took every bit of will Balius had not to fall on his face after the collision, onto the shattered pottery pieces. It was enough of a distraction for the little wretch to get away without Balius seeing which way he'd went. The Gladiator shoved ungratefully at any citizens that were trying see if he was okay, as he turned about to head back to Daniil. He wasn't going to be petty and take their help over such bullshit. Teeth gritted so hard his gums hurt as he fought with every step to keep his seizing leg from giving out on him. If he ever seen that whelp again, Balius wouldn't think twice to snapping his neck.
He snatched a random strip of cloth off some seller's table after tossing a handful of coins at the person. Balius did this all in stride, never stopping as he marched his way back to where he had left Daniil of Marikas. Wrapping the strip of cloth around his forearm to staunch any bleeding that is could still be doing, before he got back to the ladies’ sides. A very pissed look, furrowed his brows as he kept silent on what had just happened. Inwardly cursing the gods for such insolence that doing a good deed resulted in fruitless and painful ends. Crossing his arms as he stood stiffly next to the booth, waiting patiently for Daniil to continue on with her day. He took notice another young woman was talking to her but didn't pay too much attention on it to long. If Daniil would say anything, he'd give her a look that was as cold as ice to not ask or bother him over it. He wasn't going to let her spoil get day out on his nonsense. He simply had to simmer down till he could calmly continue looking for what Lady Ivra requested of him.

Zoe smiled softly, looking from silk to silk, still keeping an eye on her target. Oh, such beauty. Both in the carefully crafted fabric and in the beautiful woman who walked the streets. Oh, how she could wish to have both. However, she knew it too good to be true. There were eyes everywhere here. She couldn’t just pull her into an alley without sparking notice in at least one person. Shoot. She was going to have to wait until dusk. Perhaps the girl would be out at the later times or maybe she could befriend her... Who knew? It was such a tough call, but it was all thrilling anyway.
However, Zoe’s conscious stream of the many ways she could decorate such a body was cut short when her future victim screamed. Wow, that wasn’t supposed to happen until later. Zoe craned her head to see what all the commotion was about, only to notice a man whose arm was covered in... in... blood. Her pupils dilated as such a beauty. Never before had she seen such beautiful paint. The liquid of life was surely amazing and delicate in every way imaginable. Her heart skipped a beat. She needed to touch it... It was the only way.
Her own blood boiled in her body, coursing swiftly through her limbs. As the man began to make his way toward where she currently was, Zoe’s heart began to pound quickly, almost as if she were about to receive her first kiss. He was bringing his blood... To her.... Her head began to spin with delight, weaving all sorts of possibilities. As she watched him wrap it slowly, she felt her mouth water. What a tease! However, as soon as she made a double take, she saw something glorious. His blood seeped through the cloth. She wanted to tear it off and to feast her hands in the sticky red water. Why, oh why must it be so difficult to enjoy the simple things in life?
Zoe then quickly picked up that the man seemed to know Daniil. This was absolutely perfect. As he stood beside her, Zoe looked at him with stars in her eyes and a sweet smile, keeping his arm in her peripheral vision. She gave him a small curtesy before turning to Daniil, “Lady Daniil, could you introduce me to this man?” She clutched her hands against her chest, amazed. Not from what he did, but from the bloodied arm, “He is truly amazing. Sir, thank you!” Not for whatever he did, she didn’t care. But for the beautiful art she was allowed to experience dripping down his chiseled arm.
Watching him was just so glorious. He was perfect. Not the canvas, but the paint. Oh, Zoe had never considered the paints before. Perhaps that is why her art needed improving. She knew every canvas was different, but maybe every canvas contained a unique paint. She was sure that this man had perfect paint, the best she had ever seen. Bright crimson rolling down is arm in the middle of the warm summer day. It literally was a sight to behold, she was lucky to be here. If only he were already gone, and she alone with his body. Then she could cry as her emotions begged her to do. Cry for how utterly happy and amazed she was, completely engrossed in the beauty. But no, she couldn’t obsess now. She had to remain poised and adorable, as she normally came off. So, she kept her polite smile and sweet, bright eyes on him and Daniil, awaiting her introduction.

Ah! Found it! Daniil thought as her hand landed on a fabric that was very silky under her fingers. The coloring of the silk reminded her of the the sky on a clear day. She would likely be saving the dress for another occasion because she forgot, at least momentarily, about the red and gold design that Emilia had helped her choose and had designed for the upcoming Senate vote. Very rarely did a member of her house wear an item more then twice.
She plucked that piece and the green that she found right next to it, and darker shades to work as complimentary pieces. She nodded in satisfaction and moved to step back. She was not exactly sure where Bailus was at that very moment, but she was sure that he was nearby. She was about to move on to investigate something else when she heard the call that there was a thief in their midst.
The brunette tossed the pieces of fabric over her shoulder and then she turned to find the ruckus. Once she found it, she squared her shoulders and pulled herself up to her full hieght. Daniil's hazel eyes showed displeasure and then she turned to look at the semi-familiar voice that had spoken to her. She pasted a fake smile on her face and inclined her head quickly. "Lady Zoe. Indeed, I am here doing the same."
Daniil did not hide her frown as she turned and looked at Balius. Hazel eyes locked on his dark eyes and a silent battle began between them. Once their gazes broke she looked at his arm and shook her head slightly. She would have to check on him later once they were home.
"His name is Balius and he is the Marikas Champion." she said adopting the tone of voice that those close to her knew as Daniil's princess voice. and it usually meant that she was about to put her proverbial foot up someone's backside if they pushed her. She was not amused at the idea that there may be questions that would have to be answered about what had happened.
It did not escape the young brunette's notice that Zoe's focus seemed to be settled on his blood and that made her stomach flip. She steeled herself and then completed the introductions. "Balius, this is Lady Zoe of Argyris."
Daniil's attention was drawn from the pair to the man approaching them. A dark brow jumped as the stranger addressed Balius with another boy in tow. Quietly she waited.....
