Rafail was not a fan of shopping. He had never found much appeal in the thought of spending time being dragged from store to store to look at items and waste his days. There was no real point in it either when the wealthy were always provided with the privilege of having a merchant visit their homes to stop them from having to go elsewhere. The only times he ever truly put the effort into visiting a store himself was when he needed to purchase a gift that he deemed important enough that his presence was required to view the selection of items in person, and it was in that situation that he found himself that day.
The store he had chosen was not one he had visited before, but which he had selected because it appeared to have a fine and varied selection of small wares that might hold something of interest among them. He wanted to buy something for Sofia, though there was no particular occasion that called for it, and he had decided to forego his usual feminine go-to of jewellery for the girl, if solely because he thought she was deserving of something more heartfelt.
He had expected a merchant as dull as any other, likely a man, and likely far older than was necessary to prove interesting.
It was no secret to anybody in Hellas that Rafail of Marikas liked a pretty girl. It was perhaps more of a secret that his type leaned towards blonde beauties in particular, if only because he seemed so outwardly inclined towards any woman who could boast good looks that a specific type rarely crossed the minds of others. So when his gaze locked onto the keeper of this stall — a petite thing a full foot shorter than him with blonde waves that seemed practically endless and blue eyes to match his own — he found that something stirred within him as it always did when faced with a girl like that, and he wasted no time in the slightest in curving his lips up into the most charming of all his grins, his perfect teeth shining on full display as he presented himself to her with all the arrogance of somebody who had rarely been denied for his looks.
“Good morning, gorgeous,” he drawled in that overly confident manner that was so synonymous with his very being, not bothered by the intimacy of using a greeting already when, paired with his looks, it tended to elicit a giggle and a smile from most girls. His intentions had already moved past a simple purchase and into the idea that he could walk out of the store with so much more in his hands, if only he played his cards correctly (which he usually did). Rafail lifted a hand to run it through his hair, adding volume to the curls, his charm radiating as intensely as he could muster it. “I was looking for something I might be able to gift my sister as a trinket of sorts. Something small, yet… cute.” That seemed like the appropriate word, though it was not one that often left the Marikas lord’s lips when he tended to think it to be something rather more feminine.
He leaned forwards to rest his elbow on the counter, an eyebrow pushing upwards in query as he spoke and smile still flashing. “Any suggestions?”

It was early when she arrived, comforting sounds of people just starting their day wrapped around Kalliope like a blanket as she made her way to her favorite little spot in her covered shop. Covered to ward away the bright sun, Kalliope could just make out familiar shapes in the shadows that hinted at where her stool might be. The light teased her, Apollo had made sure that she could still see his light even as nothing else seemed to appear within sight as the blues of the dawn shifted to brilliant oranges of the morning sunrise.
It was going to be a beautiful day.
Playing a small, but thoughtless, little tune on the little harp that lay across her lap; Kalliope passed the day away as customers shuffled through while they browsed. She recently hired workers to help her mind her little storefront. It was a small thing, but Kalli felt better listening to the girl, Rhea, help other customers while the mercenary, Pollux, stood guard from anyone with darker intentions. So when a shadow appeared across her vision as Rhea seemed distracted by another customer, Kalli stopped playing before she lifted her head to peer up at the rather tall shadow.
'Good morning, gorgeous.' A masculine voice greeted her that was certainly not Pollux, but yet appeared to use such a familiarity in his tone like he knew her. Did she know him? Kalli could not place his voice anywhere in particular, but that wouldn't be difficult after traveling to so many different places for her business. Her eyebrow arched just slightly as she tried to place his voice. "Good morning." Her own voice was hesitant in the greeting, cautious before she stood up after placing her instrument to the side gently.
She could see a shift in movement as well, shadows moving around as people looked through her wares, the man before her seemed to move as well. Was he uncomfortable? Just about to ask if he needed to sit down or something, he answered her unspoken questions. 'I was looking for something I might be able to gift my sister as a trinket of sorts. Something small, yet… cute.' Kalliope now knew that he was just a flirty customer, something that she wasn't unfamiliar with, as she smiled to herself. Not someone she knew. The shadow seemed to move closer, causing Kalliope to take a step back, her smile still in place as he asked her; 'Any suggestions?'
"Well, we have a few things to choose from. There is a selection of jewelry from K'm't, clothing from Assyria, rugs from Babylonia.. there really is a little something from everywhere here. What would you say your price range is? There are reasonably priced things that most could afford, but there are also rarer things that cost several more drachmae than most wish to part with." Kalliope stepped around him, moving towards one of the tables Rhea had set up with the more exotic collections of jewels. Running her hands over the metals and stones, Kalliope stopped on one that felt cold to her. "This one is a stone that came from very far away, they called it jade and told me that this stone gets cold easily and stays rather cool to the touch."
Picking up each one, Kalliope held them up to her ear one by one as she tapped her nail lightly on them to cause an almost bell-like sound with each strike. "What is your sister's favorite color? The jade comes in different shades of green, though if you would like rarer colors, it will cost you more." Holding a smooth, round bracelet on her palm, she held out her hand for the man to inspect the jewelry. "This one is almost white, you should be able to see light through it too, that's how you know it is very high quality. Also, it will sound like a bell when it is tapped."
Her other hand was already moving in case this was not what the gentleman had in mind, the different temperatures of the metals and stones brushed passed her fingertips quickly. It wasn't till she hit the fabric and warmth of wood feeling that she paused. Another rare and different item, she wrapped her fingers around it before pulling the wood up to her nose. The spicey scents of sandalwood and the smoothness of the silk filled her senses before she smiled and held it out next to the bracelet, "A fan made from sandalwood and silk, artwork that also can keep someone cool on a hot day. Or hide a smile behind its fabric like a shield. Or could even become a way to smack someone who vexes her. A very multifunctional accessory."
Kalliope was in her element, smiling as she tried to find something that would please her customer, "What do you think?"
