Pausing in his long and powerful stroke beneath the water, Leo pulled for the surface and felt the warm sun on his face. He breathed deep, felt the rivulets of the sea run down over his nose, cheeks, and lips, and then spat the salt from his tongue. Treading water, he brushed a hand over his face, shook out his hair, and looked around.
Hundreds upon hundreds of festival-goers were having the time of their lives, either in the water or across the shore. He could hear the rock music from the other end of the beach, broadcast across the earth and water. The lights and rollercoaster roars of the carnival atop the cliff were blaring from on high. Even those who liked the quieter life and had taken up camp on the sands were rocking out in their own way, oiled up against the rays and turning their sunglasses towards the warming orb in the sky. Leo counted three volleyball games, two soccer shootouts, and even a game of war on the sand. There were just as many floaties, ball games, and splash attacks happening in the waves.
Realizing that there was no one around him, Leo took the opportunity to let childish abandon take hold. He had been swimming the length of the beach, back and forth a few times, letting his muscles stretch and his adrenaline rise. Now, he felt supercharged and able to take on the world. But first, it was fun time!
Throwing himself backward in the water, Leo's height caused an impressive splash as he entered the blue-tinted world beneath. Opening his eyes against the current, he swam towards the bottom of the sea and began to fish amongst the sand and pieces of coral. He found several shells, a pretty quartz stone worked into a smooth and pretty oval and a gold chain. Surprised by the find, Leo took the delicate little thing in hand and kicked off from the sand for the surface. Once airborne once more, he lifted the trinket into the sun. It glittered and glinted.
Three little diamonds, a silver shell, and a piece of garnet identified the bracelet as valuable. A broken clasp on one end revealed how it had ended up in the water. Perhaps it was an anklet or had been fastened round someone's wrist when they went into the sea? Whatever it was, he figured he should hand it into the help tent at the other end of the beach so they could put it with the lost property of other eventgoers.
Sticking the bracelet in the zipper pocket of his swimming trunks, Leo dived down into the water again and performed some spins and rolls beneath the waves. Grinning to himself, even as he played on his own like a fool, Leo was roused from his aquatic adventures only by the roar in his belly. Deciding it was time for a hot dog and some water that wasn't so high in sodium, Leo swam back to the shoreline. Once close enough to the water's edge, he took to his feet and waded through the shallow, dripping wet and shaking his hair like a dog.
