Colour In PostsHey everyone! This is just a quick note to confirm some things about using colour in your IC posts. I've put a little announcement about this out on Discord and it was in the Bunny Slipper section of last week's Weekly Broadcast but some people have asked a few questions that imply I haven't explained this properly (my apologies!). So, I thought I'd write out something a little more long form to make it clearer <3 Auto-BoldOn Aeipathy we have a code in place that automatically embolds anything found between speechmarks. This means that your character's dialogue is automatically bold. You do not need to use the (b)(/b) codes or anything of that kind. It's done for you. Just type like normal and the formatting will follow. If you are worried about confusing which speech is being copied from previous posts and which is your own character's new dialogue, a good trick is to us single speechmarks (the apostrophe on your keyboard) around other people's speech. The auto-code will not pick this up. I also tend to italicise this speech just to make it uber clear - 'Blah blah blah,' she said. ''Blah blah blah,'' he said. Custom Dialogue Colour PerkWe have a perk sold for member points in our Site Store. When this perk is purchased, a custom code is written into the hard code of the site, making that character's dialogue automatically coloured, in the same way that it is auto-bolded. No coding, no fuss. And it works retrospectively so every post you've ever written gets automatically coloured with the right colour. And if you ever decide to pay for an update to the colour and change it, we can do that and retrospectively apply that too so you never have to go in and edit old posts. The Issue With Colouring TextIf you are sitting there knowing how to code and I'm about to tell you the most obvious of simplicities, I apologise. But, for those who don't know, coding works like a series of boxes. One inside of another. This auto-code applies to the whole site so it's hardwired into one of the pretty big boxes. However, if code is inserted into one of the smaller boxes that it contains, that inserted code overrides the universal code. It basically says - yep, keep the universal code for everything else but this very specific bit that I'm bracketted around here? Yeah I'm deciding what happens to that. And the universal code cannot interrupt it. Some members have been using colours in their posts, which looks super pretty but unfortunately, because it's a smaller box code, it's interrupting our larger, universal application. So, we need to ask that everyone not use colour in their posts. If you're interested in buying a custom dialogue colour so that your posts can be pretty again without any coding needed then please check our our Site Store and our Points System page if you want to know how to gain the points necessary to purchase the perk. To HelpTo help with this confusion, the formatting buttons have been removed from the Quick Reply on thread pages and clearer instructions provided regarding out auto-bold. You can find these just above the input box on the Quick Replies. All colour has now been removed from all posts by the staff team so there's no need to go back and edit your posts. This is just for your attention moving forward <3 Have fun on the boards, everyone! |
