Hey everyone! This is just a quick notice in regards to some people having difficulty with their post formatting! I was going to type something up on the Discord server but in truth, there were a couple of different issues/confusions and I thought it might just be easier to post them all here as a handy dandy reference!
If you are not having any issues with your posts and they are looking exactly as they need to, please don't worry about the rest of this message. Otherwise, if you are not 100% certain that you're rigging your BBCode right, please check out the below headings and just see if they might be applicable.
As always, if anyone has any queries about the below, please don't hesitate to get in touch with one of our staffers!
Auto-Bold Dialogue
Like most RP forums, we at Aeipathy like to employ the speech/dialogue in bold. However, unlike most sites, our lovely website does this for you automatically. There is no need to put in (b)(/b) BBCode to make your character's dialogue stand out. Which saves us all time and effort. However, there is a downside to this. The coding looks for and identifies pairs of speech marks. If you miss a speech mark in your post, it will continue to bold until it finds the pair (usually, this is the first speech mark in your next bit of dialogue). So, if your posts are coming out looking a little funky and half in bold font, go back and double-check that your speech marks are all there and accounted for. Depending on your browser, different types of speech marks (the cursive kind or the straight kind) can also have trouble matching, so just make sure that the speech marks are there and of the same style. This should sort out any issues with the auto-bold.
Paragraph Breaks
Again, similar to most RP forums, it makes posts easier to read on Aeipathy if all paragraphs are divided by a single line gap. Those who like to write on Google Docs will notice that upon copy and pasting Google Doc data, it likes to give you a few extra spaces between your paragraphs. No need to worry! The site has been rigged so that it will automatically remove additional, unnecessary line breaks - you can hit return as many times as you like and the code will still adjust it to one line break only. However, this is not possible the other way around. If you have not put in enough line breaks, the code cannot work out where more need to be added. So, to keep everyone's posts looking uniform and easy to read, please can I encourage everyone to, at the end of a paragraph, hit that return button a second time and put in a little line-break space?
Coloured Dialogue
Colouring our characters' dialogue is a great way to customise their post style and make your writing feel more immersive. We are firm supporters of this here at Aeipathy. However, given that this is another additional code to be added to every piece of dialogue on every post, and said code will become superfluous or make the text hard to read as and when we get new themes/colours for the site... we have turned coloured dialogue into a perk that you can purchase in our Site Store. When you use your Member Points to purchase coloured dialogue, we actually rig your colour into the site theme itself. This means, every time you post, your dialogue will automatically be your own personal, customised tone - no coding needed. It will also back-trace every post you've written in the past and update those too. AND it will automatically update to something readable as and when we get a new theme.
To this end, we ask if anyone who has been actively putting colour into their dialogue, could please remove this coding and, when they are able/want to, purchase a dialogue colour from our site store here. This way, your bright colours are a medal to wear with pride and you never have to worry about that pesky BBCode...
That's all, Folks!
I hope this helps everyone with any concerns or confusions they have had only their posts not looking right/formatting right. Again, if anyone is stuck or wants help on correcting any posting issues, please just contact a member of staff - we are here to help!
