Zanon had been feeling guilty, and lonelier than he'd expected. With all of the work that had been left to himself and his mother in the absence of his father and brothers the two of them had been doing the work of running each brother's barony along with his own, and the kingdom on top of that. It meant though that Evras had been without his company more often than not, and with their attempt to mend their marriage still fresh he hated leaving her alone. It had been the main reason he had asked Essa to come and stay with them, so that his wife could have company to lift her spirits on her enforced bedrest. No doubt Dion was spending time with her as well, but it wasn't quite the same.
He'd given over the last of his missives to the steward to get sent out, including one he had spent a good deal of time on and wasn't entirely sure he wanted to send. A letter to Vangelis had gone out with the post to hopefully find him on the battlefront. Leaving things the way they had was weighing on his mind still, and though he hated what his brother had done, the foolish mistakes he'd made, he was still his brother. The closest sibling Zanon had and the one who understood him best even if they didn't agree with each other always. He'd saved too much emotion, knowing his brother wouldn't appreciate it, but told him he was sorry for the way he'd reacted, hoping he understood his reservations and promising in time he hoped they could discuss things in a calmer manner.
There was no way of knowing when his brother would receive the note, and it was out of his control for the time being anyway. Instead he wound his way to the bedroom that Evras had been occupying since she'd been ordered to rest. Most days he slept in the adjacent chamber, giving them both a chance to sleep without keeping the other awake, but he wondered if she was feeling up to him joining her that night, it had been too long.
With a short knock on the door, he was pleased to find that Essa and Dion had taken their games elsewhere, moving to sit on the side of the bed and reaching out to stroke his wife's hair back from her face.
"How are you feeling? Well enough to take a walk in the gardens with me?"

You know how some people always complained they never had enough hours in a day? That they worked all day, and could simply use a break, or a rest... but what did you call needing a break from resting? Because Evras has had honestly quite enough of this prolonged bedrest she was on. With it being past a month now, she was eager to be allowed out and about now, but the physician seemed to still have his doubts. Even despite Evras telling him she now felt fine, and no longer felt the pull which had landed her on bedrest to begin with, he still apparently would prefer her to remain as rested as possible.
The one good silver lining that came from the physician's visit the day before however, was that he did say she could now take brief walks, and Evras had been exercising that right the moment he had said it, with nervous servants dogging her every step as she had taken first a turn about the Kotas manor the evening after the physician had left, and then this morning again.
Despite being only four months along, her stomach showed far earlier then Dion had. She had been assured that this was normal for a second pregnancy, but Evras couldn't say she was unhappy about it. On the contrary, the dark-haired princess was glad to have a physical proof that she was actually carrying again, something she had deathly feared being unable to do over the last few years.
Luckily for her, she's had Essa and Asia to keep her company in her self-imposed prison in bed. Athanasia especially had been coming a little more often then one would expect, but then again the young princess had unexpectedly had to takeover her tasks after Evras had been to bedrest, so Evras couldn't help but feel the responsibility was on her to help her young sister in law out.
Having sent Dion to bed early with Essa that evening, the servants had finished combing out her long curls, and Evras had just slipped her feet in between the sheets as the servants left, when the door opened. Evras had looked up, expecting to see one of her ladies in waiting coming back in and assuming she had forgotten something, but the porcelain features of the Thanasi sister brightened when she instead, saw the features of her husband entering.
While nothing of huge proportion had occured between Evras and Zanon in the last week or two since his brothers and father had left to the war, what had happened was that Zanon had been kept far too busy, while Evras had been kept to her own thoughts on what had occured with her sister and Vangelis. She had only had one conversation with Thea, before Zanon had effectively had Thea cut off from being spoken to, but while Evras didn't agree with what her elder sister had done, it didn't change the fact that Thea was her sister.
She did, however remember, how upset Zanon was, so instead she opted to not broach the subject, but merely gave a soft, lopsided smile as her husband's hands brushed her cheeks, a touch she had missed.
Reaching up, Evras caught his hand and gave it a squeeze, which was quickly followed with an exasperated groan. "I'm bored, that's what it feels like." she grumbled, pouting as her dark loose strands fell forward in her sulking position, before she looked up and leaned in closer to peer at her husband. "Although, I suspect you'd enjoy us switching positions anyday." Reaching up with the hand that was holding his, she brushed her own under his eyes and on his cheeks, and then teased, "You look as if you could sleep for days, husband. Are you sure I won't have to end up dragging you half-asleep back to our chambers?" she asked with a hint of a laugh in her words.

Zanon chuckled as she declared herself bored, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Ever since their reunion things had been easier to handle. Perhaps not over all, things still happened that drained him and caused him stress and fear, but at the end of the day he could come to her and she could lift the weight he carried temporarily. The burden of responsibility could be lighter when they were together. She had always made him feel this way, and he'd been a fool to let his pain and fear blind him for as long as it had. He'd lost three years, and he was determined to make up for them.
"Come then, let's get you outside."
He shook his head, looking away with a sigh when she touched his cheek and noticed what he'd been hoping to hide. The exhaustion always got the best of him whenever both his father and Vangelis were away, but having Silas and Yiannis as well as most of the men in the kingdom off at war was harder than even that. His mother was doing most of the work, and every kind of help he could offer her he gave. Whether it was wading through boring paperwork or dealing with various issues that weren't enough to need the queen's approval.
"It's nothing my love. You know how things are when the men are away." There was a bitterness to his tone even as he tried to hide it. Zanon stood, grabbing her robe and bringing it over to her so she could get wrapped up enough against the chill of the air. His leg was acting up as usual, yet another reminder that he would be useless in the war fighting with the others. Even so many years later, it stung that he couldn't fight like the rest of the Colchian men who went with the king and princes to Egypt.
"Walk with me, I can't go far as it is and we should discuss Dion's time in the mines."

The word 'outside' was practically magical to her. With only a small window to see the outside world, she had been deprived of the briefest whiff of fresh air, and craved to feel sunlight upon her face. With it being night time, she wouldn't be getting the chance to feel sunlight at the moment, but fresh air sounds good enough for her.
Grinning in a way she hadn't in quite awhile now, Evras stood as quick as she could in her condition, still mindful of the light swell in her belly as she wrapped herself in the robe Zanon offered her. Despite being excited however, Evras frowned at the stiff way in which Zanon held his leg, her mind clicking even as he spoke. "Your leg hurting again?" she asked softly, briefly brushing her finger against his outer thigh. It always irked Evras that she couldn't do much about it, especially when the slave Zanon had mentioned had managed to help to a certain degree before her untimely death.
Suddenly remembering Thea had send Evras a new text that explained some herbs they've never worked with before, the woman's mind tried to mentally flip through the text she had read, even as she fell into step next to her husband. Having slipped her hand into the crook of Zanon's arm so she could rest it softly over his forearm, the manor felt oddly quiet with most of the me away. Usually one could hear at least someone around, but even Dion had went to bed already, and it felt weirdly still.
Stepping out, Evras took a deep breathe of the air, the smile upon her lips content as she watched the lamps flickering in the distance. Finally turning to Zanon once she finally got her satisfaction at being out again, she cocked her head in query at her husband. "What has been planned so far?" she finally asked. Evras had never liked the idea of Dion going into the mines, overprotective mother that she was with her only son, but she knew it meant a lot to Zanon and was a rite of passage for the Kotas sons, so it was only right. She had come to terms with it, yet a slight fissure of anxiety could still be heard beneath her words.
