Hector finds himself wandering through the streets of the city of Athenia. He’s heading somewhere, but he doesn’t know where. He’s looking for something, but he doesn’t know what. There’s something he must do. It’s important, but he can’t remember what it is. As he searches the streets, he finds himself in front of the temple of Athena. He enters the familiar building heading towards the statue of Athena out of habit.
The statue is no statue, but the goddess in the flesh. Athena stands in her full battle armour, but it is dented and scuffed as if she has just stepped off the battlefield. Her peplos torn and dirty. Her expression weary, but she looks on Hector pleasantly. Instead of her customary shield and spear, she holds something in both hands that is radiating a soft, blue light. Hector steps closer to see what she holds. Cradled in her hands is the large, blue diamond that Hector pulled from the fountain. The diamond he left in her temple.
He looks up at her, as she towers over him and she speaks. “My people suffer. You must help them.” Athena is charging him with a task. It is not an order, but it might as well be. She smiles at him, and the dream starts to fade.
Hector seems to wake in bed at his house. A wonderful smell drifts through the air. Could that be freshly baked bread? He emerges from his room to find his table full of food. Not only is there bread but meat and cheese and fresh fruit. For a moment he wondered where all this food had come from before he saw his daughters Ismene and Ariadne finishing the preparations for the meal. He smiled as he saw that Ariadne was happy and uninjured, and for a moment he wondered why that was even a question. Then the recent events in the capital came flooding back to his mind. He was still dreaming, as much as he wished he wasn’t. He was not at home, but still in the city, which is where he awoke.
