It had never taken much for Neithotep to find the kind of occupations that allowed her to seek the pleasures of the body and those who wanted to share them with her, Safiya had no judgment and some of the time she was a least a little bit jealous about it. She would play from time to time but mostly it was about Safiya teasing and having a clear stopping point which was not always the sought of thing that everyone wanted to participate or indulge in - at least not for everyone "It sounds like you've already found all kinds of fun! I suppose I should be happier to have some time with you, as long as I get to hear about it all" and she did like hearing about adventures.
Safiya was the same when it came to her sister, who was far more likely to be joining with Neithotep and that was just something she knew had to be handled carefully otherwise they could both end up in trouble. Until they parted ways from her uncle, Narmer at least. Safiya wouldn't betray her sister and end up with her getting into trouble as a result "Fine fine... just time then!" part of her wishing that just maybe he might look at her with that kind of twinkle in his eye but then next to Neithotep she had always felt like it was a poor comparison was her mother's heritage had made sure that she would never have that ideal of Eygptian beauty, there would always be just that touch of the exotic.
Turning to her friend again "Ready? I don't want to risk him changing his mind and you've lots to share, right?" yes, she was getting excited but perhaps there was just something in the air or her mood was just that prone to these bouts of needed distraction and just being able to be around someone who wouldn't be judging her in some way, she needed to not feel like she was being watched and her uncle definitely did that. Mostly in an effort o make sure she behaved in the kind of way to attract the best kind of husband who would benefit the Hei.

“Of course, Sirdar,” Neithotep answered Narmer with a smile and a twinkle in her own eye, albeit for different reasons. She returned his bow with one of her own, straightening up to look at him with mild curiosity. He was a comely enough man, she supposed, but truthfully, the head of Hei Haikaddad held little interest for her. A man with so many responsibilities in a house rumored to be in decline surely had little time for leisure, and leisure was what Nia’s life revolved around. She couldn’t imagine they had much in common. “I shall return her to you on my arm and my arm only, you have my word.” Grinning as he made to depart, she offered a little wave. “Enjoy the evening, Sirdar. We’ll talk again very soon.”
Turning to Safiya, her smile widened, linking her arm with the younger woman’s. “Now that he’s off, let’s go!” Heading back into the crowd of revelers, she tugged her friend forward in search of more drinks. Spotting a slave bearing another tray, Nia made her way over to him and plucked two glasses of wine from its surface. One she handed to Safiya and the other she took herself before leading them over to a cozy little niche that was a bit quieter than most of the room. Settling herself on a surprisingly empty divan, she stretched out with a blissful sigh.
She looked over at her companion as she raised the glass to her lips, taking a deep swallow of the cloying maroon liquid. It was a little more tart than she preferred, but who was she to complain about the quality of the wine in the Palace? Nia was sure it was much finer than what she usually drank, but it didn’t stop her from preferring the taste of the other. Ah, well. Tart wine is better than no wine.
“I’m afraid I don’t have too many recent adventures to share,” Nia told her friend with a rueful laugh. “Nothing out of the ordinary, at least. I did have a rather… interesting… encounter with one of the Palace guard at a tavern last week, but other than that…” The mischievous look on her face would clue Safiya in to just what sort of ‘encounter’ it had been, though with Nia, it wasn’t very hard to guess. “Not much. Ever since Sutekh moved into the Palace, Mother’s been watching me constantly. It’s been harder to get out and do anything when she’s tracking my every move.” Her exasperation was clear in her tone, but it was quickly gone with the light-hearted atmosphere of the Sed. Who could remain angry at such a party?
“What about you, darling? I haven’t gotten to see you much since you took on your job with the Queen. Do you like it? Is she kind to you?” Hatshepsut had always seemed nice enough, but Nia had never really gotten to know her. Did she show the same gentle face behind closed doors that she did out in the court?

She was not sure how they had managed to secure this little niche but Safiya was well accustomed to this kind of luck being associated with Neithotep, it had often been the case that she had seemed to have all the best and most blessed kind of favour in her life. But Safiya was aware that it was a rather petty kind of jealously and not really something that had ever lingered in her mind or held her interest for that long.
Safiya accepted the cup of wine and then settled down, stretching out her legs and absently wiggling her toes while Neithotep started to share some of the recent events "Is that all I get? I was expecting more?! Where are the rest of the details, like size, skill..." she widened her eyes a little bit as she turned to face her friend and sipped the wine, it wasn't good wine but Safiya was used to the taste and didn't allow her face to reflect just how tart this drink was or how it affected her. If Neithotep could manage it, then she definitely could as well "And I would say that's terrible but surely it won't last that long? I mean eventually, she should relax?" even her own mother wasn't that terrible.
"If not I could try and suggest that you come and visit me some more in the palace? Being a handmaid isn't that bad, not as much as I thought it would be. But perhaps that is because Sameera is here and she helps to make sure that I don't end up making too many mistakes..." she paused then and swallowed some more of her wine, wandering about the best way to answer the question about the Queen. On the one hand, she wanted to be honest about it but on the other, she was aware that it might be the case that someone else could hear her words as well.
Safiya was sure that she could be a little bit creative though "...she doesn't really know me or my sister, I think we're both trying to figure one another out" she explained and shrugged "But no, she isn't unkind to me" not that Safiya would have expected any needless cruelty but then again people were often good at disappointing those around themselves.

Nia laughed merrily into her wine, draining another few swallows with a rueful shake of her head. “Forgive me for my lack of detail,” she apologized with a giggle, dark eyes twinkling with mirth. “I should have known you would have wanted to hear about every thrust and moan.” Playfully, she nudged Safiya. “One of these days you’ll have to stop living through me and make a few stories of your own. And once you do, I better be the first to hear about it.” Grinning, she amended, “Or at least the second. I suppose I can’t be too mad if Sameerah is the first.”
Some of the mirth faded from her face when Safiya mentioned coming to the palace more often, a slim shoulder lifting in a shrug. She drained the rest of her wine before setting the goblet down on a passing tray. “You know how I feel about Court,” she replied, leaning back and stretching out. “You and your sister are about the only ones I can stand. All those mouths saying one thing while they whisper another. It’s exhausting.” Sitting back up straight, she sighed and shook her head with a smirk. “I’d say you should just visit me more often, but I guess that’s not really much an option any more, huh?” She made a face. “I suppose I can come here more, but only if you promise I don’t have to talk to anyone but you or Sameerah.” She snorted. “Then we’ve got a deal.”
Listening thoughtfully as Safiya described her new life with the Queen, Nia nodded. “I’m glad she’s not unkind to you,” she replied. “My mother was a retainer when she was young, and her stories of the Queen Dowager are not always so… flattering. I hope her daughter is at least a little more pleasant. From what I’ve seen of her, she’s seemed that way, but I’ll admit I haven’t seen her much.”
Reaching over, she squeezed Safiya’s hand. “I just want you to be happy.” Hei Haikkadad had not had an easy time of it lately, and she couldn’t help but worry for her friend. She wasn’t sure how close Safiya and her father had been, but it couldn’t have been easy losing him. Nia might have lost her brother to the Palace, but at least she could still see him. Safiya did not have that same luxury.
“So, anything else exciting in your life lately?” she asked with a grin, her tone lightening. “Any new crushes or handsome faces I should be aware of?”
