Location
The lands belonging to Bedoa'mt are technically the
largest on Aeipathy and span the northern region of the African continent, from the borders of K'm't to the far western side of the Mediterranean. However, these lands are left
unclaimed by any one monarch or tribe and are not thought of as a single state or territory: they are
open desert plains that belong only to nature itself. They are merely the ever-changing home of the nomadic gesins who travel over the dunes.

Historical Age
History is told
orally in Bedoa'mt and rarely kept in written form. Their age and history, therefore, is unknown. Most elders of the Bedoan gesins will tell the tale of how their people have been ever moving for the last "hundred generations". If accurate, this would make the beginning of the nomadic Bedoa'mt gesins
4,000 years ago. The desert has been populated, however,
long before this and the origin stories of the Bedoans talk of how the land was once lush and fertile until human greed saw the sands swallow all life. This was when the gesins were formed and forced to travel in small, nomadic groups in
penance for their hubris.

Population
Bedoa'mt is the
least populated land on Aeipathy, particularly when considering its vast lands. Each gesin of Bedoa'mt can range from
eighty to
eight hundred people depending on current birth and death rates. These gesin travel as
nomadic groups around the Bedoa'mt area. Whilst they never permit themselves to stay too long in one area, the gesins do have specific regions and routes that they prefer to travel depending on the time of year. A very small number of individuals are condemned as
The Lost and must travel alone over the sands.
There are
no cities or towns in Bedoa'mt, besides a few portside residences on the northern coast. Bedoan gesins travel with their homes, packing and moving tents from one oasis or dune to the next.
Life is hard in Bedoa'mt and pivots on the essentials for
survival. Water, hunting and social responsibilities make Bedoans slow to trust but fiercely loyal once you are considered a brother to their people. This makes them highly
xenophobic, distrusting and suspicious of outsiders both between the gesins and even more so across land borders. A history of being taken advantage of by the
Remetch'kmt makes Bedoans particularly wary of anyone from K'm't despite them being their main trading connections.

Size and Travel
LatitudeFrom the far eastern border with K'm't to the western edge of the Mediterranean Sea. This is a large area of sandy dunes that are hard to traverse. For efficient travellers, seafare along the northern coast is best. For the Bedoan gesins, land travel is required and always on foot, not horseback.

Climate
Climate doesn't particularly change in Bedoa'mt. The desert lands are always hot, dry and dusty. The Bedoans, therefore, don't really mark the passage of time with seasons but with biannual cycles, based on how long the
sunlight hours last.
| Referred to As | | Climate / Weather |
|
Spring / Summer | Season of the Sun | | In the warmer half of the year, the temperature rises slightly and there is zero rainfall. As clouds are rarer in these months, the night-time temperatures drop lower than during the winter and frost can even be found on occasion. Dust storms are a greater risk at this time of year. Days are longer in this period but travel slower as gesins pause to take shade during the hottest hours of the day. |
|
Autumn / Winter | Season of the Moon | | In the darker half of the year, gesins tend to travel more, staying warm on the move and taking advantage of the cooler daytime temperatures even as the sunlight hours wane. If cloudy, nocturnal hours are actually more temperate. If clear skies, the temperature can plummet after sunset. Rain is more common at this time of year but still rare. |
