For all the commotion that the pair of bickering noblemen had been the cause of, Gianna was certainly grateful for the reprieve it offered her. Under normal circumstances, she found court quite enjoyable, but she had thrown out any hope of normalcy the moment her father and brother had been murdered. The moment that her world had been turned into an endless parade of her uncle’s schemes to usurp power, the latest of which had resulted in the King and Queen being sequestered to their quarters as her sister, Princess Xene, held court for a visiting Egyptian emissary.
And so the youngest princess found herself leading a small parade of Leventi women to her private chambers—the result of tempers that had gotten somewhat out of hand. She glanced down at her skirts, unnoticeable in color except for the growing dampness that darkened the fabric between her ankles and knees. Nana of Leventi had not been so fortunate. She had taken the brunt of the blow and her silk gown had been soaked from her waist-length blonde hair to the puddle the girls had left on the ground as Evelli shepherded them away.
Approaching the doors to her rooms, Gianna was pleasantly surprised to find a pair of guards. Elpis had spared no thought in preparation for their arrival. Upon seeing the princess, the men dipped their heads and opened the doors for Gianna and her guests. Once inside, she found several chitons, one in every color it seemed, laid out on her bed. Elpis must have pulled from Xene’s wardrobe as well, Gianna thought, fingering a soft pink gown. The air was warm and perfumed, juniper she guessed. Elpis emerged from the bath, dark strands of hair sticking to her forehead as she bowed to the women.
“Your Highness, I have drawn a bath and prepared a selection of gowns for you and Lady Nana to choose from,” Elpis reported in her silvery voice.
“Thank you, Elpis,” Gianna replied, her words almost lost in her soft spoken manner as she turned to Nana. “Lady Nana, shall we get you cleaned up? The bath is through here. Elpis?”
Gianna took her friend’s hand once more to lead her behind Elpis and deeper into the room through an archway just on the other side of the bed and separated only by gossamer curtains. It opened up into a smaller room that housed a large terracotta bathtub in the center. Steam rose from the tub and Elpis retrieved the privacy screen from the corner of the room where it had been folded shut for storage. She carried it to where a klinē and small, round table were stationed closer to the tub before setting it up to conceal the couch. Without a word she crossed the room to a wardrobe and removed a stack of linens which she placed on the table.
Motioning to the klinē, Gianna spoke once more to Nana, “When you’re ready, Lady Nana, Elpis will assist you with whatever you need.”

To say that Nana was upset...well, that would be an understatement. To be publicly embarrassed with an audience consisting not only of the Taengean court, but the Egyptian delegation as well...It was just too much. The fact that the Leventi had kept from going on a murder spree after being the subject of such horrid humiliation only proved what saint-like patience she possessed. The two buffoons who had caused the incident were lucky that they had been escorted out so quickly, or Nana, even with all the grace of a proper lady, might have set out on a manhunt.
Yet now, here she was, grasping tightly to her friend's hand as she was lead quickly and quietly to the safety and security of Princess Gianna's private quarters. And how strong she was, to keep her tears at bay, even as they brimmed in her eyes. Nana was well known to be overly sensitive—there was a chance the young blonde would take offense if the wind changed directions—so it was quite clear how different this was to any other trial the young Leventi had been put through. Never before had she been publicly embarrassed, on such a large scale, to boot. Her silence after such a horrid ordeal only acted to warn those around her: those in her presence could only be able to guess what sort of storm was brewing in the blonde's head, just waiting to be unleashed.
And how the storm unleashed. She managed to keep it together all the way to Gianna's chambers, yet Nana's would-be excitement upon visiting the princess's quarters was dampened significantly by the dark cloud of distress that hovered over her head, just waiting to rain down over her.
Yet, the girl remained silent, ignoring all others and holding on tightly to Gianna's hand as she led her into a side-room, where a bath had already been drawn for her, and a klinē sat with her name on it. It was at this time, after what seemed a century of bottling up her tears, that the Leventi plopped down onto the klinē, and the waterworks started to flow. In the blink of an eye, the steely demeanour that the girl had attempted to imitate was exchanged for a fountain of tears, loud sobs, and plenty of sniffles. And thus, Nana was back.
As she let her tears fall, the Leventi scooted back to bring her legs up onto the couch and quickly brought her knees to her chest, burying her face in them in true dramatic fashion. Soon after, the girl tried to speak with a muffled voice, struggling through sobs.
"How...How dare they do such a thing to me? Now everyone is probably laughing at my expense, while those idiots go free!" In her passionate anger, the girl looked up to Gianna, eyes already starting to turn red. "They...They deserve to be hanged in the streets! Or to have their heads on a pike! For all the pain and damage they've inflicted, I...I hope that Hades comes for them!" After wiping her tear-soaked face, Nana sniffled, trying in vain to calm herself down, only proving to make herself wail even louder. This would be a night.

Technically, Evelli was not at all surprised that Nana had reacted the way she had. As it was, her second youngest daughter placed great pride and importance in her wardrobe and outfit, and it did not help that it happened right in the middle of a very reputable court session, with invited ambassadors in attendance... well, Nana's outrage was well placed.
But that did not mean the mother was agreeable to the way she had publicly lashed at the servant who had been the one losing their hold on the wine which had spilled down Nana's chiton.
It was luck on their side that the young Mikaelidas princess had been just next to Nana when it happened, and while Evelli would've liked nothing more then to bring Nana home immediately, she did not see the fault in allowing Nana the chance of further befriending a royal of the realm. The woman had gave an inner thrill when Gianna had agreed to bring them up, and Evelli merely followed behind as Gianna led Nana into her private chambers, quietly thanking the Gods that the young Leventi was no longer screeching at the unfair situation above all.
Watching as they entered, Evelli muffled a sigh as Nana's tears overflowed - quite expectedly, and in fact Evelli was more surprised that she had managed to hold it in for quite so long. While Evelli was no hard-weathered warrior, she would hardly cry over a ruined dress in a public scene. Having to handle five daughters and the treacherous waters of Taengean politics whilst trying to make sure her husband's position wouldn't be jeopardized, there was little that could start the waterworks for the Lady Evelli these days.
Of course, to expect the same from Nana would be an overachievement, for she was young yet. Still, such a scene in front of a princess so gracious to have offered her hospitality was unsightly, at least to Evelli.
Squeezing her eyes shut as if calling on strength from the Gods for just a second, her dress shifted as she moved forward after her tirade for Hades to come to them. Giving a soft smile and a curtsy to Gianna, before moving to take a seat on the kline next to her daughter, gingerly, Evelli lay a hand on her daughter's shoulder. "Nana, why don't you get cleaned up first? Princess Gianna has so kindly offered you a bath, and I don't think staying in this sticky dress would help you at this point, now would it darling? I promise you, no one would be laughing at your expense, but for now, shall we get you cleaned up?" Evelli's voice was unlike her usual sharp, authoritative tone. Instead, it turned to a soothing one she usually used for when her daughters had been younger, and playing outside with each other back in Macendia.
Turning to Gianna, her hazel eyes scanned the young princess's figure before she asked, "And you, my princess? I hope the spillage did not extend to yourself as well."

Gianna would be remiss to admit she had not expected Nana’s tears. What she had not anticipated, however, was how long her friend had been able to feign such an uncharacteristic strength. When the blonde finally collapsed her defenses, the princess was almost relieved. This sudden return to Nana’s true nature was a good sign for what she could tell. A blubbering Nana was an unaffected Nana. For all the damage to the girl’s pride—and not to mention her dress—the hot tears told Gianna that her friend would recover, in time.
She offered Nana a corner of the linens stacked next to the couch, sympathy for the girl’s plight suppressing the instinctive shake of her head at Nana’s suggested punishments. Of all the women in the court, the reckless and haughty lords could not have chosen a worse victim if they had tried. Nana’s delicate nature and penchant for the dramatic was not a secret amongst the courtiers. With a sigh, she knelt in front of her friend, taking the blonde’s hands in her own once again with a comforting squeeze.
“I cannot promise public hangings or heads on pikes, but I can promise you that my sister does not suffer fools,” she asserted, her voice firm. “They have been dealt with accordingly.”
It was Evelli’s movement that drew the princess back to her feet. She had been so focused on calming Nana down she had all but forgotten they were not alone. Evelli’s voice was gentle as she addressed her daughter and had the desired soothing effect on Gianna’s own nerves. She soon found herself fighting the urge to avert her eyes when the woman’s gaze fell to her. Evelli’s inquiry caught her off guard. As the youngest and arguably the most sheltered of her siblings, she was not used to having such direct attention from someone outside of her inner circle.
“I, um—Thank you, Lady Evelli. I appear to have been spared the worst of it.” She motioned to her skirts and the ever so slightly deeper crimson stain that stretched from her knees to the hemline. Returning her attention to her friend who had resigned herself to becoming a miserable heap on the klinē, Gianna gently cupped the girl’s cheek in one hand while using a linen to wipe her tears with the other. When she was satisfied with her work, she held the linen out for Elpis to take before taking Nana’s face between both of her palms.
She held Nana’s face gently, but firmly so that their eyes met when she spoke, “Lady Nana, I have an emerald gown that would look quite lovely on you. Will you please allow Elpis to help you bathe so you can wear it? I would hate for it to go to waste...”

The sniffles and hiccups that came from Nana were just about unstoppable. While the two royals went about trying to calm the girl, it seemed that nothing would work in their favour. Gloomily lazing on the klinē provided, Nana looked just about as much of a mess as she could have, wine stuck like syrup to her dress, her hair, her skin, stained fabric and a mat of golden tresses sticking to her back like flies to a honey jar. This was possibly the most disgusting feeling Nana had ever experienced.
Yet, it mattered little to her in comparison to how her pride had been wounded on this night. As Gianna spoke, assuring Nana that the appropriate actions would be taken in regards to the fiasco, Nana couldn't help but feel the need to protest for harsher punishment, yet found herself quite unable to form the words, quickly catching in her throat when she tried to utter them, loud hiccups and quick, uneven breaths coming from the girl as she tried in vain to compose herself. It seemed that would be a job for Evelli, who came to take a seat at her daughter's side.
And oh, how she did it so well. Breaking out the gentle tone Nana knew from her childhood quickly brought a calm over the young blonde, her hiccups and sharp breaths slowly dissipating as the Leventi made her best attempt at steadying her breath. Though her deep breaths sounded nowhere near normal, anyone in the room would certainly find them much less grating than the croaking and hyperventilation that had previously come out of the girl's mouth.
Nana supposed her mother was right. There was nothing that could be done about the situation now, and as the stickiness of her situation started to become more apparent, Nana became more eager to get herself out of the wine-stained gown that clung to her skin, and into the bath that Princess Gianna had drawn up for her.
Sniffling as Gianna took her tear-streaked face into her hands, Nana felt a slight feeling of embarrassment come over her at the girl's words. Though Nana thought of Gianna as one of her fondest friends, the princess's sugared words reminded Nana of her childhood days, when Selene would be quick to kiss her scraped knees and stubbed toes better, and in this moment, she felt like a child.
As Gianna wiped her tears away, Nana tried her best to cease in her tantrum, taking further deep breaths to try and calm herself and regain the composure she'd lost. Nodding at the Mikaelidas princess's suggestion, Nana pulled away to try and save face, quickly and messily wiping her face with her hands before slapping her cheeks to try and snap out of her fit, letting out a quick sigh and running her hands through her golden tresses, pulling herself together the only way she knew how.
Glancing to the tub and then back to Gianna, she took another deep breath.
"Okay."

She smiled at the princess's response, young as she was. Gianna was perhaps, not as obvious as her siblings in such terms. Zacharias had always been known as the crown prince, while Stephanos took the title of playboy prince, and Xene as the eldest princess, had been known to the general public of the kingdom for far longer then Gianna. The youngest princess was merely sweet, but neither did she particularly stand out for now, at least not in Evelli's memory. That didn't mean she was forgettable however, merely outshadowed by her elder siblings.
That she seemed to have nothing further untoward of the incident calmed Evelli a little, for she had no wish to face the wrath of the royal family should Gianna wish otherwise. Still, that the young princess was so easily amenable was a testament to how well she had brought up. Smiling in soft indulgence as she watched the princess fuss over Nana, for a brief instance Evelli wondered who exactly was the older one. The two girls were close in age, but in that very moment Gianna appeared to own far more in maturity then her younger girl, although the two had been fast friends for long, so perhaps their relationship played a part as well.
Watching as Nana gratefully accepted the assistance and kind offer of a replacement dress to her, Evelli stepped back and allowed the maid named Elpis to draw a bath and lead Nana to it, waiting until her daughter had went behind the privacy screen before turning to Gianna and offering a curtsy. "I must thank you for your kind offer to Nana, my princess. I fear to think of what may happen if you were not by Nana's side. She is lucky to have you as a friend." Evelli praised, meaning every word. Nana was likely to head to a meltdown, yet Gianna seemed to know exactly how to handle her, or maybe Nana just preferred her peers at her age.
Glancing down again at the crimson stain of the princess' dress, Evelli couldn't help but wince, and then look up. "Perhaps you would like some privacy as well so you could change? I can go and check on the event and update on whether or not we are required to return." Evelli offered, losing the necessity to be there now that Nana was calmed and on her way out of her soiled garments. Smiling when the princess agreed, the matron made her way out the room and returned to the main event downstairs, knowing that her daughter was in good hands and would likely be returned all smiling within the hour.
