Spread across the rocky, mountainous cluster of islands known as the Kirakles islands, Colchis occupies the northern most sector of the Grecian realm. Colchis is comprised of towns and villages cut from the very rock face of the islands themselves, squeezed between the caverns and tunnels of the Colchian mines and the sheer, treacherous drops towards the ocean below. There are few settlements at sea-level; the Colchians, instead, having to trek long and winding roads up mountain faces or hillsides to journey between ports and towns. The rest of the settlements are in the higher reaches of the isles. With high altitude comes extreme weather. Generally, Colchis is hot, sweltering and permanently dusty. The torrential rain that other kingdoms in the Aegean suffer in the fall are monsoon-like in Colchis. In the depths of winter - at the very beginning of the year, Colchis is the only Greek kingdom to have snowfall. Due to their terrain, Colchis grow little of their own food supplies but their hilly territories are good for raising sheep, goats and mountain livestock. The mines that tunnel beneath several key provinces in Colchis provide their greatest asset above all else; gold, silver and precious jewels. Colchis might not be the richest of kingdoms (for much of their golden heart must be mined and sold in exchange for the necessities of life) but they are powerful among their allies for being the kingdom to hold the purse-strings of all of Greece.
Colchians have both the worst and best reputations in the Grecian realm, depending on who you ask. They are seen as aggressive, antagonistic or cold-hearted because of their propensity for bloodshed and their refusal to engage in idle chit-chat. For a Colchian, if you are going to say something, it should be worth saying. Socially, they are seen as incredibly lacking. On the other hand, Colchians work the mines of the realm. They mine metal ore and work it into armour, they mine the gold and silver that is then melted into coins and traded abroad. They also live in the harshest weather amongst the Greek islands. As such, Colchians are thought to be some of the toughest and hardiest people in the area. Colchians, like the other kingdoms, believe strongly in honour but also that honour is tied to dignity; that people should work harder and play less. They are also far more willing to spill blood should someone's honour be defiled or insulted. Gender roles are also much more lax in Colchis than other kingdoms - women work in the mines alongside their husbands and females are allowed to join the army as archers (not infantry).
Colchians are perhaps the least hospitable of the Grecian kingdoms. With strong beliefs of disgrace and dishonour being catching by association, they are suspect and hesitant to welcome someone who may be on hard times into their homes. Colchian socialising is often done at sea on a voyage or daily expedition.
Politics in Colchis and the capital city of Midas are the bloodiest in the Grecian realm. Fuelled by a strong belief in honour, integrity and a sense of justice, people often "disappear" from the Senate, if someone believes that they are not performing or thinking with the honour of Colchis in mind. As such, for fear of saying something they shouldn't, politicians in Colchis often defer to the king and queen. The royal line of Colchis is arguably the most powerful of the three kingdoms.
Colchian Canons
The canons of the Colchian royal lines are listed below. Please note that all untaken characters are open to creator interpretation. So long as an application does not directly contradict the information listed on this page, a creator is welcome to build a canon to their liking and create something wholly their own. Please also note that these characters are only the ones listed as members of the royal bloodlines. We also have wanted characters in the Colchian Varónos (Noble Houses) which can be found in our Character Compendium.
To apply for a Canon Character, simply create an account with their first name as your username (e.g. "tythra" for Tythra of Drakos). If the username is listed as Open, another member is already creating that character. All Canon Character applications must be completed within two weeks or they will be returned to Open status and the username will become available for claiming again.
Dynasteía Drakos
Smaller than it once was, the Drakos family has a legacy of powerful military achievement and currently owns the mines from which so many riches are extracted. Known once to be the dragons that resided in the mountains of the Kirakles Islands, their heritage has not been lost but is, instead, supported and held by the wrong gender. Now a family of women and destined to lose the family name entirely, unless any of the family marry someone of low birth, outside the houses, the women of the Drakos family are sharp, courageous and known to be unladylike in many ways and forms. As close relations to the king, they have avoided the harsh words and gossip of the court but everyone knows that a Drakos lady is more viper than maiden.

Dynasteía Eliades
To be an Eliades means to have an appreciation for knowledge and the pursuit of understanding the world around you. Once a military family, the house only became one of nobility when Harith married Lady Ria - the cousin of the King of Midas. It was Harith who began the family's love of learning and the reason his wife fell in love with him. As such, the two have raised their children to believe that information can be just as powerful as a sword. The family are new to nobility but are also proud of their accomplishments and are respected in their field.

The sole daughter of her parents and good for little else besides marriage, Ria held out against political and diplomatic marriages until she was in her late twenties, despite fears and concerns from her noble family. Instead, she found real love in the form of Harith, a respected scholar, older than her by some fifteen years, and more devoted to her beauty and mind than any man she had ever met. Since then, they have lived their lives together, in academia and family, raising their children to be individuals instead of political pawns.

Harith was born to a family of military enthusiasts who only had daughters. Despite an obvious preference for him to enlist, Harith grew up with a love of books and learning. An outcast within his bloodline, yet the only male to continue its name, he became intimate with the Athenian library and would work on his mathematical and scientific papers from dawn until dusk. It was not until a chance encounter with Ria of Kotas, travelling from Colchis, caused him to fall madly in love, that he even considered the idea of marriage or family. Now, living in his wife's home kingdom, he is a devoted father - if often a little distracted by his work.

Dynasteía Kotas
The Kotas family is one of strength, courage and family loyalty. Believing in blood connections above everything else, they are a strong family unit who rule Colchis with an iron fist. Male-dominated, their family is unlikely to be shifted from its position as rulers for several generations yet they do not rest on their laurels. A military family at heart, they produce so many sons for fear of them being killed in action and have, in recent generations, spread their interests into the commercial, as they oversee the weapon forges and armour-makers of Midas. Their honour and glory on the battlefields gives them power in the senate but they are otherwise ignorant of the cruel tricks politicians can play and find any deceit or tricks of intelligence to be distasteful. They are not, however, in any way abhorrent to ridding the senate of a disruptive representative if it is required, just as they have no issues committing murder in war for the sake of their kingdom.

Dynasteía Thanasi
Cunning, innovative and, at times, cruel, the Thanasi Dynasteía may be small in its living members but it is one to be wary of. Brought up alone, the patriarch of the family Dionysios grew into a greedy, ambitious and conniving man who has passed his political skills and personal believes down to all of his children. Known to be formidable in court relations and deadly in senate politics, the entire family has a reputation for being hungry for power. Now that Dionysios is in his old age, it is rumoured that the man is slowly losing his mind, becoming prone to insane ramblings and violent outbursts of aggression towards both family and foe. He is, however, still officially the leader of his house. This is widely considered to be the decision of Nethis, his eldest daughter, who does not believe either of her younger brothers capable of the mantel of leadership. It is rumoured that Nethis, instead, runs the house through the puppet of her father. A puppet-master is not the worst and her sisters have been called either. The subtle and malicious ways in which the enemies of the Thanasi house disappear and the ease with which the beautiful Thanasi women claim their male prizes has led to many whispers of witchcraft. Such actions would be blasphemous to the gods and, as such, if it is ever proven that the sisters were behind the disappearances and the evil that befalls their enemies, they would likely be put to death. As gossip does, the rumours have grown and spread until no-one is entirely sure what is truth and what is not - most recently regarding the Lady Evras' marriage to Prince Zanon; a union that the prince claims to be love. But many are considering it the effects of a potion or love spell cast by the Thanasi witches.

Born to a family of nannies more than relatives, Dionysios grew up with a distinct belief in succeeding alone and never waiting for someone to give you what you want. You take it. The only male child of his House, Dionysios later came to consider the name Thanasi synonymous with himself personally and he holds it dearer than anything else. Cunning, manipulative, deadly and unscrupulous, Dionysios is widely understood to be a man you stay far away from the bad side of. Most of the "disappearances" amongst the Midas nobles have had suspicions involving the Thanasi family leader. In recent years, however, Dionysios' age has been catching up with him. Forgetful, touchy and often violent, many say that the great politician is slowly losing his mind.

Midas; The Capitol
The capital city of Colchis is everything its landmark settlement should be. Carved from the rock of the mountain itself, it's a testament to human achievement and the grit and stoicism of determination. Able to withstand any natural disaster or extreme climate, Midas is a city of physical levels; giant steps cleaved from the mountain side, with wide sets of steps or sloping streets between each level. The Upper Levels of the city support several storey buildings, with half their structure exposed to the outside, the other swallowed inside the mountainous rock. These buildings are often carved with ornate designs and lined and decorated in gold. The doors are crafted from iron and bronze - displaying both the strength and power of the nation but also its resources and craftsmanship. What little open space and greenery there is in the capitol is in property of the royal houses, where it has been deliberately crafted and positioned. These areas, owned by the most wealthy in the lands, are known as the Upper Levels of the capitol.
The Lower Levels, so deemed because they are literally lower than their richer counterparts, are built in just as sturdy fashion from rock and stone. Most buildings are on one level but a few have two storeys. The streets of the Lower Levels are narrow and children often play on the rooftops, jumping from wood joists to stone walkways and aqueducts; leaping from one structure to another. The children of Colchis, like the men, are fearless. Further down, towards the outskirts of the city and beyond the final city walls, are buildings constructed more from wood than from stone. As time goes on and the weather beats down, these residences are destroyed and rebuilt time and again. But it takes large scale plans, money and time to build new stone buildings on the edge of a mountainside and so, only a few homes are rebuilt in rock each time. From the Lower Levels runs a large and arching walkway down around the mountain's edge and back beneath itself to the Midas Harbour - a port hidden in a giant alcove of the mines. Always busy and always loud, the harbour is Midas' most valuable asset, as it is the key to their trade and to the resources required for the people of the city to live.
The Kirakles Isles
The Kirakles Isles are numerous and plenty. There are five major landmasses among them that have no singular name. Several are single provinces and so take such a title but the others are simply known collectively as the Kirakles Isles. Only the isle sporting the provinces of Laconia and Molossia are flat enough on which to farm arable trade, while the others are used for the primary purpose of mining; rock, gold, silver, jewels, iron ore... With these raw materials, the Colchians then work their skills and trade, using the high altitude and harsh winds of their kingdom to fuel their furnaces and keep their kilns burning hot. Forges are aplenty in Colchis and there are no finer weapons in all of Greece that are not Colchian born. Swords and weaponry, armour and shields... coins, jewellery and decorative pieces for the home. All can be brought to life by the hand of a Colchian.
Colchians also manage livestock - mostly sheep or other creatures that graze and live easily on the steep hills of the isles. In these far off areas, most structures are built from wood over rock and clothing is most often crafted from warm furs or made of sheep's wool. In the provinces of Dolomesa, Magnemea and Midas (along with several others) the primary occupation of most civilians is slavery. With large numbers of slaves, working in the mines deep beneath the earth, these provinces in particular are the ones responsible for the money and materials that Colchis needs to survive.
Provinces that are marked as Open are currently being run by unnamed (or temporarily made-up named) barons. If a member wishes to claim a province for their own and create a noble house, that province's history is either changed or a scenario created by which the new noble family will take over from the NPC family.

Right at the heart of the town square, was a gorgeous fountain which functioned as the testament to Lyncaea's skill in masonry. Main Export Masonry Sub-Exports Fabrics, leather and metal tools.
NameMagnemea Barony Open Population 5,000 Military Unit The Damned Description Magnemea is the dark province mother's threaten their children with. One of the two most populated provinces in Colchis, Magnemea is unlike its counterpart Dolomesa. The province looks more worst for wear, with alleyways running every which way. The towns, that all merge together into one big maze across the mountainside are easy to get lost in - and for good reason. Slave trades happen on a day to day basis here. Magnemea has its own harbour, where the slaves are shipped in and then brought to the market for sale. No matter which noble would purchase the men, women and children, however, they were all going to the same place. Down into the mines. The atmosphere in the town is poisonously oppressive, and it is obvious from the shabby houses and dirt roads that money is not spent on its towns, as the Magnemea nobility horde the gold for themselves in the furthest reaches of the mountains. Main Export Iron Ore Sub-Exports Metal-work, stone, precious jewels.
NameMegaris BaronyDysius of Thanasi Population 1,200 Military Unit The Hounds of Death Description By day, Megaris looks to be an innocent, quaint small town with tea houses and sweet waterfront houses. However by night, one would do well to stay away from the province. Sometimes known as the 'Sleepless Town', Megaris houses the largest number of brothels and 'flute girls' available within the Kingdom, and it is almost an unspoken rule that if one wanted a good bit of 'fun', Megaris is the place to go. NameMolossia Barony Open Population 3,900 Military Unit The Molossi Wolves Description Incredible scenary of fields and forests, Molossia is a perfect place for anyone wishing to reconnect with nature, or just have a great time on a holiday. On the edge of the main town, just before the lush forest that borders Molossia, is a small shrine dedicated to Gaea, a place where Molossians come to pray to the greek goddess of the earth for lush vegetation and abundance in everything. Main Export Woodwork Sub-Exports Timber, vines, herbs, furs.
NameNethisa Barony Open Population 700 Military Unit The Scorpion's Sting Description A province suffering from being just across the sea from Magnemea, Nethisa takes the bulk of any escaped slaves and the slave traders who manage them. Plagued by drug dealing, and a recent influx of whores, it is obvious the main town in Nethisa suffers serious urban decay, especially with a rising rate of robbery and violent crime. It is ill-advised to traverse the streets of Nethisa alone, and definitely not without a weapon. to Add to this rumour and mystery, the dreaded Scorpion's Sting wander the streets and land of the province, a visual reminder of the mad baron in his dark castle. Main Export Black Market Crime Sub-Exports Private contractors, weaponry, fish.
NameOreboea BaronyZanon of Kotas Population 900 Military Unit The Creatures of the Deep Description Built and developed as a service port for the kingdom's exports and imports, Oreboea faces the sea on three sides, with several waterfronts and a scenic lagoon that is connected to the sea by a narrow inlet. The largest of all is referred to as the Theseion Cave, with high ceilings and the figure of Hephaestus carved into the face of the mountain. The other two caverns depict the story of Hephaestus and how he came to be the Colchian patron god of metal working, craftsmanship and fire. Main Export Silver Ore Sub-Exports Stone, temple taxes.

It was not until a chance encounter with Ria of Kotas, travelling from Colchis, caused him to fall madly in love, that he even considered the idea of marriage or family.

[attr="class","brd_ooc"]

Known as one of the most elegant places in Colchis, Chaossis has beautiful architecture and scenic alleys, stone paved squares and ruins of an old Colchian castle made for a long-dead baroness atop a hill. One of Chaossis's top events of the year is Chalceia, where people from far and wide in Colchis will attend the celebration on the last day of Pyanopsion to honor Hephaestus as a deity of handicraft. The people of Chaossis are the largest producers of weaponry and swordcraft, along with jewellery and accessories woven from metal. The smell of smelting can always be sensed in the streets and the alleys are always hot with heat of crafting fires during their long working hours. Main Export Weaponry Sub-Exports Armour/leather design, jewellery and metalwork.
NameDolomesa BaronyImeeya of Drakos Population 3,400 Military Unit The Rock Giants Description One of the largest provinces, population-wise, Dolomesa is perched right on the top of the mountains. In her belly, lies the source of her growth - a network of mines filled with the gold and silver Colchis is so famous for. The people of Dolomesa are hardworking, regardless of gender, age and capability. They all pull their worth in the day-to-day duties in order to fulfil their responsibilities to the Colchian crown. Dolomesa has various cart-way tracks that run throughout the whole town, serving the mines deep below. The peak of the town provides the best view of the whole of Colchis. NameIllytia BaronyPhotis of Eliades Population 900 Military Unit The Sky Walkers Description Whitewashed buildings creep up the hillside of Illytia, with narrow pathways that lead you to the top. Once there though, your reward will be a stunning view that reaches almost to Taengea on a good day, if you squint.
Colchis

[attr="class","brd_ooc"]
