Three copies of the following letter have been sent to the port of Athenia, the port of Vasiliadon, and the port of Midas, scribed in Coptic in a smooth and flowing hand. Written on the outside, ‘For the hands that receive this letter, please see that it makes its way to the sailor known as Lukos of Magnemea with urgent haste.’ Once the seal is broken, the letter is brief and reads as follows:
Lukos,
I write you now to call on our debt and seek its repayment. I have precious cargo to be hauled at your earliest arrival to the Port of Cairo. Leave word with the harbor master upon your arrival that you seek the ‘Jewel of the Nile,’ and I will be prompt to join you. Time is of the essence, so please, make haste. This is a shipment that cannot wait.
Regards,
Iaheru H’Sheifa
