The acquisition of servants was something that Osiria would never grow used to. She enjoyed her excursions into the city, especially now that she had access to portions she'd never been to before. Still, there had been some insistence that she not go to find her own groceries and it had been suggested to her by one matronly member of the staff that she instead 'do what the other young ladies do and visit the Northern Square to hear the latest news'. It had taken some cajoling, but she was certainly aware that it would look odd if she continued her aversion to social gathering spots, especially since she was an eligible woman of a newly appointed noble house.
Thus, with a number of muttered prayers to the gods to help her not offend anyone's sensibilities, she had set off.
Her walk was spent pondering the realization that people should likely not feel a sense of dread when going into a public space with the intention of simply engaging in conversation, but there was a coldness in the pit of her stomach that she didn't like. She was likely under-dressed, but she didn't wish to simply sit around in her finery when it wasn't needed. She had settled for simple decorations of plain gold jewelry and had allowed the matron to do her hair and a light touch of makeup. Otherwise, she went as she was. She would treat this as another task to complete- find someone relatively friendly to speak to and catch up on the most recent news and gossip in order to stay abreast, and then return home. Simple.
Upon her arrival to the wastan, she was met with the thought that it may not be as simple as she first believed. She approached the fountain with slow steps, her face a neutral mask to hide the distinct discomfort she found in being out of her element. It wasn't that she feared social interaction- that was simply a part of life. It was that gossip wasn't something she engaged in often and she had never needed to do so in the past. She wasn't even sure how one did that. Her dark eyes slid over the people there, searching for a familiar face. Surely there would be someone here she'd met before? Or an acquaintance of her brother's? Even someone who looked as though they might be able to hold intelligent conversation without attempting to manipulate a member of the newly-made Hei would be fine.

While most people, saraaya's and Head's of Hei's would send servants or even the ladies of his household to purchase the needs of his household and saraaya, Narmer was in a bit of a .... delicate situation. See, he had had no choice but to release his servants from their services to his household in the earlier part of the year as the household finances dwindled further. Which meant that now, Hei Haikaddad only had a skeleton household staff to run the household... which also meant Narmer had to do much of the things himself as well. Most of the time, Na'meah had taken over the tasks and duties, leaving Narmer to handle the ledgers and bookeeping, but his sister-in-law had felt under the weather today, and since he didn't trust one of the servants to be frugal with the money when they headed out to purchase the necessities for the household, Narmer had taken such a task upon himself to do.
In his beige flax-made linen shendyt belted around his waist, it was pleated in front and fell to his ankles, enough so that as he walked, his leather-made slippers would show as he walked. His belt itself was made of gold plates looped together with leather strips, and interspersed with red and white woven metal plates. The remaining upper half of his body was left naked as was the norm, which left his lapis lazuli amulet with the scarab of Ra clearly seen upon his bronzed chest. A pair of leather armbands was on both wrists, the gold charms strung upon it glinting in the afternoon sunlight as he finally entered the northern wastan, which was necessary before he finally made it to the market.
The wastan wasn't a space Narmer often went to. He knew Na'meah liked to hang around the central spaces with any friends she's made over the years she's spent in Egypt. But the fountain area was a place Narutt had told Narmer to preferably avoid. Far too many gossiping Ladies of the Hei's congregated, that his own brother much preferred to stay away. Lords of the Hei's congregated as well, but Narutt had held no interest in the ladies they sought to court - it was why Narutt had ended up marrying a Bedoan bride - so Narmer had instinctively followed in his brother's footsteps.
Around the fountain, servants would approach to gather the cool clean water, and while not many Lords and Ladies did the same menial task, for Narmer he had no choice. The pair of large earthenware he held was meant to be filled with water which he would bring home for the week first, before continuing to the market. Was it odd to see a lord of one of the Heis fetching water? Sure. But Narmer was far beyond gossip.
Sure enough, the moment he dipped the first pot in the cool flowing waters of the fountain, it was as if a ripple of surprise collectively went up around the surrounding nobles gathered. But Narmer merely hardened his face, finishing up the filling of the first pot and gently laying it on the ground next to him, before picking up the next pot.
Straightening up, the man was just about to dip the second vessel of liquid in when his eyes flickered upwards, and a sudden surprise of recognition passed as his eyes met another's.
Hei Abbadi was a newly minted noble household which many stories surrounded, but General Sethtah H'Abbadi was a name quite familiar on many tongues amongst the noble families of Egypt with his victory over the Bedoan raiders. To a certain extent, Narmer envied the newly minted Hei. They had the support of the Council, and won the favoritism of the pharoah. It was a position Narmer himself had sought when he only had to focus on being a General - but now that he had to focus on being a General and in running the Hei, Narmer's attention was diverted and he was now failing in all aspects of his life, at least in his mind.
Still, it didn't meant he should be bitter to the family members of the Hei. At least, he had been brought up with the need to respect other's, and as such, Narmer quickly identified the lady standing at the fountain as the sister to the general - Osiria, if he remembered her name properly. He had met her a few times amongst the few court sessions the pharoah hosted with the young Queen, but Narmer had always been far too busy socializing with the other families to exchange conversation. To find her filling and fetching the water herself instead of a servant from the household however, was a surprising fact. Narmer had no money, and that was why he had to do the menial tasks himself. But why was she here?
Carefully swishing the pot around in the water to fill it up, Narmer respectfully nodded his head at the young sister to the general as he greeted her. "Good afternoon, lady Osiria. Are you alone here in the wastan?" The least he could do was create conversation right? Maybe he could make some friends with the young lady, and maybe... just maybe, he could do something to help the dire financial situation of his Hei.
