Lady Nethis,
As you may well know, my eldest niece attended Colchis of late. She sailed from your shores safely and returned to Taengea yesterday. Such a reunion was rather a poignant moment for my brother (I shall spare you the details of the emotional raptures that followed it) given that he had had reason to presume that he was not to see his daughter again for some time. And, even then, he had purported that he would lay eyes on her again only as a married woman.
Yet, now I am told, despite the request and offering of my consent, that such a union is no longer intended between the Houses of Kotas and Leventi and a new one has been secured between the expected prince in question and your sister.
I'm not ignorant enough to assume that this sudden turn around has nothing to do with you and your machinations, Nethis. Nor will I insult both our intellects by pretended to be. I shall simply request, as a friend, that in future you perhaps giving me a little advanced warning of your plans, should we discover to be aiming for the same target for our beneficial connections? At least I might then save upon boat hire fare and avoid the doldrums of female drama upon their tragic return.
I would dress such a request up in a missive of more colloquial and casual chatter: discuss matters of minimal import, inquiry about the weather there in the north and ask after your family. But, given that you would see straight through so infantile a ruse and neither of us care about a large portion of your family, I see little point in wasting the ink.
Sincerely,
Your friend,
Fotios of Leventi
