She was a fine lady in Chara’s opinion, though they had only met the day before. A guest of her brother’s during the archery competition, they had met over dinner. Conversation was pleasant enough, though the desire to know the woman beyond the dinner table was ever prevalent.
She had allowed her brother to lead most of the conversation, though when the opportunity presented itself, she offered to arrange a day trip to Attictris with Lady Nethis. Nothing like a ride on Atreus to calm the nerves as well as being a perfect opportunity to have some girl time.
There were many things she wanted to ask Lady Nethis. The...rumors...surrounding the House of Thanasi were interesting, if not wholly ridiculous. A witch? Truly? Chara had no doubt in her mind that these allegations were false, created by weaker minded people. A real witch would be sitting on the Colchian throne.
There was, of course, a lingering curiosity as to what sparked these rumors. In the carriage, however, was not the most appropriate place to ask. The last thing Chara intended, was to make her guest feel as though she were attempting to make some sort of unsavory commentary.
When the carriage came to a stop, Chara allowed her guest to exit first before following behind her. Strolling beside her companion, flocked by guards and two handmaidens, Chara approached Atreus’ stall. Gently patting the stallion's neck, she turned to Nethis.
“Lady Nethis,” she said, “do you see one you would like to ride?” Chara looked expectantly at one of the stablehands, intending for him to ready to fetch the horse Lady Nethis’ choosing.
“Or perhaps, I might suggest my own Eunike?”

The carriage ride could probably have been called quiet, but if the alternative was idle chatter, Nethis didn’t quite mind. True, part of the reason she had chosen to visit Athenia in the first place was for the purpose of social connections, but in some fashion, she was Colchian at heart.
As such, yes, she might have favored a certain brand of teasing and banter in order to amuse herself, but that was about proving herself a force to be reckoned with—but for the rare occasions there was an actual genuine match in terms of wit and challenge—rather than because she actually liked idle conversation. Banter and tease could be the point of a conversation, but small talk was inevitably pointless and she wholly disliked wasting her effort on the upkeep of something that served very little use.
Being pleasant with a near-stranger was oh-so-very tiring, wasn’t it? At least the payoff with Elias had been well worth the effort. This was questionably more so; she didn’t particularly value friendship without some ulterior motive, so what that really left her was to wonder whether social standing and blood were enough.
Maybe. Maybe not. That would depend on other factors, things to be sussed out casually in the midst of whatever time she spent in Attictris or in the midst of an afternoon ride. There was nothing like nerves at the thought, but there was a bit of hesitance; it wasn’t that she couldn’t ride, it was that she typically didn’t. Her skills and interests leant themselves to a different set of pursuits and she was by no means talented here, meaning she felt she had less control.
Still, she disembarked like she was unbothered and let herself be guided into the stables, taking stock of their surroundings and the horses within, waiting for Chara to facilitate further.
When she did, the question was merely greeted with a slight shrug. "Truly, I have no preference, except perhaps well-tamed." A sly smile slid into place before she added, "Men I can manage, but horses are an entirely different matter and I have no interest in that particular fight." Gods knew fighting with a horse would be such a waste of her considerable gifts. "I am sure whatever you think suitable will be fine."

Lady Nethis was pleasant enough, if not quiet, though Chara did not disparage those who held their tongue. Chara was more than capable of having idle conversation -- and she often did -- but her guest did not seem like the type in which Chara would engage in such conversation. No, she was not dull or completely stupid, and thus, the Stravos did not attempt to strike up fruitless talk. There were certain questions at the forefront of her mind, but they could, indeed, wait until she was more certain of the kind of woman Lady Nethis was. There was no need in following a venture if she would get nothing out of it.
Well-tamed? A fair request and one easily accommodated. Chara nodded slightly to her guest with the smallest of smirks pulling at her corner of her lips. “I have come to find men and horses have many similarities,” she said, “but philosophy was never my strong suit.” Motioning for the stablehand to fetch Eunike, Chara’s attention returned to her guest. “Eunike is sweet-natured and she does not spook easily. It does not take much pressure on the reigns for her to obey. I should hope you find her agreeable.”
As the stablehand did as his lady bid him, Chara opened the door of Atreus’ stall and led the black stallion out. “Atreus is not so kind. I believe he has bitten every stablehand in our employ, though he behaves while I am around.” She patted the stallion again before she moved the topic to something more interesting than horses.
“I have heard much about you, Lady Nethis,” Both good and bad, though Chara knew well enough to take all rumors with a grain of salt. “I should hope you do not mind if I ask about some of the things I have heard?” It was a gentle attempt to see how her companion might respond to what would be, essentially, a polite interrogation. Chara had heard many things alright and she would be certain to get the truths that interested her in one way or another.
