He’d failed. The days had fallen away into nothing and now, on the eve of the Colchian’s departure for this newest war, Silanos was having to accept the fact that he would be going too. All of the ineptitude, all his efforts to make the Crown Prince reconsider his decision to drag his unwilling assistant with him on this campaign, it had all fallen on deaf ears. And now the youngest Valaoritis was left with no recourse, not unless he wanted to openly disobey Prince Vangelis and likely forfeit his life.
Although maybe that would be easier than whatever fucked up kind of death awaited him in Egypt.
He wasn’t stupid, and knew that despite the hellish drills he’d been put through the past weeks, his skills in combat were far surpassed by every one of the men who called themselves a soldier. Silanos half wondered if that wasn’t the Prince’s plan, just to have him meet a convenient end in the desert. But it seemed a lot of effort when the man could have just run him through before going through with this whole...servitude malarkey. Not that Vangelis had treated the endeavour lightly at all. Sil was quite sure he’d never worked harder, had more asked of him. The only positive to have come out of it was that he was generally so exhausted that his sleep seemed to have regulated itself somehow, and dreams had become scarce and far between.
Sil said nothing when he’d been dismissed from the Prince’s service that night, had used up all of his options. There was no point now. He would show up in the morning and that would be it.
He’d not had much appetite for the plate of food the cook had set in front of him in the kitchen. After he’d pushed it around the plate for half the height of a candle, the older woman had snatched it away and shooed him out, no wanting him brooding under her feet when she had work to do. And Silanos genuinely considered swiping a jug of wine to take with him, because fucking hell if he didnt want a drink and if he was going to die either in Egypt, or for deserting or for one last hurrah then he knew which he’d prefer. The opportunity didn’t present itself though, or perhaps reckless decisions were not as easy to make as they were when he was sleep deprived , drunk, high or a combination of all three.
Heading back to the Order House, Silanos did wished he was spending the night somewhere else. He wished he was in Eubocris, then wondered if Timaeus had brought their mother to Midas instead, if she would be there tomorrow. To say goodbye. What had his brother told her of his disgrace? Did she even know her youngest son would be going too? The thought pricked at him like a thorn, and Silanos frowned at his feet as he walked through the hallways of the Kotas Manor towards the courtyard.
For a bed of his own making, the Valaoritis Lord was finding it fucking uncomfortable.
Which was why it seemed sort of fitting that the fates would throw Imeeya of Drakos into his path. Just because someone up there was getting a laugh out of messing with him. Not even sure if he had it in him to exchange barbed comments with the blonde girl, it was too late for Silanos to duck out of the way, so he plastered on a smirk and called out to her, coming to a stop just next to her in the courtyard.
“Were you waiting for me? That's sweet” he offered. It was lame, but it was difficult to summon the usual teasing tone he’d found got her riled up the easiest. He just felt...flat, and it sounded in his words.

For once Imeeya was finally beginning to feel like maybe her mother was no longer her jailer. Yes, ever since the rumors began flying about her having a romantic attachment to a pirate, Imeeya had not been allowed to go anywhere where she wasn’t strictly supervised. Slowly, Imeeya had been able to push her boundaries further and further to gain some sort of semblance of freedom.
Today, Imeeya had been allowed to go visit her cousin the Princess Athanasia at her family home so that they could have dinner together, just the two of them. They were finally on good terms again after the whole debacle with the rumors about her affair with a pirate. Imeeya was admittedly still annoyed with her cousin’s initial refusal to realize that the idea of her being romantically involved with a pirate was completely absurd, but Imeeya was willing to forgive a lot coming from Asia. They had been friends ever since they were babies, and whatever fights they might have, they always managed to find a way to reconcile. Still, Imeeya found herself drinking a bit more than she normally would, just as something to help her bite back any resentment she might still be holding. Thus, by the time she was heading back to her house, Imeeya was feeling slightly tipsy.
As she crossed the courtyard someone called out to her. Silanos of Valaoritis. Why on earth did that man appear to be everywhere these days? And why couldn’t he just learn to leave her well enough alone? It’s not like any of their encounters had ended particularly well, and yet he just kept coming back for more.
Imeeya turned to face him as he cracked some sort of joke about her being the one who wanted to talk to him. A particularly lame joke at that. Normally the man had much more swagger. If she had cared at all about anything other than just making sure Silanos would just shut up and go away, she might have been worried about this lack of enthusiasm about taunting her. Instead, she saw it as a welcome reprieve. Perhaps she could chase him off easily tonight. Though it would almost be disappointing to not get in a good argument with the man.
“What makes you think I’d even want to see you, much less be waiting for you?” Imeeya snapped back at the man. Then she hesitated. Without Silanos’s normal enthusiasm, her cutting remark seemed almost mean. It was an uncomfortable feeling. These sorts of remarks were normally saved for someone who would return the comment with the same energy, but that didn’t seem forthcoming from this Valaoritis lord. And now she just looked like a heartless imbecile. This was infuriating. Silanos had finally managed to bring her down to his level.

Verbal sparring with Imeeya of Drakos usually kept him on his toes, but tonight Sil knew he would be outmatched, and he really didn’t have the taste for it. He wanted a fucking drink or something stronger. Anything that would make him forget his miserable fate. Maybe he would go see Mihail. He didn’t think the Thanasi lord would care about the late hour. He didn’t even care about flouting the non drinking rule. What did it matter anyway?
Silanos should perhaps have realised that even talking to Lady Imeeya was not a wise decision. She gave as good as she got usually, and he really wasn’t up to par. It was evident in his lacklustre attempt and in that her predictably biting response actually kind of stung a bit. The kitten had claws and they were sharp tonight.
He blinked, realised he’d been staring at her in silence a beat too long before giving a laugh. It was too loud, and brittle on the cooling night air. The smile too was painted on and not reflected in the sky blue eyes that remained flat and dull. Much like Silanos felt. Glancing around the empty courtyard of the Kotas manor, the young Lord reached for something suitable acerbic to offer in return.
“Well now my feelings are hurt. I thought we had something special.” He tried, but it was too late and too forced, lacking the usual flair. It was difficult to be flip when he felt so fucking dismal about his future. Which would likely be dying on the end of some sand rat’s sword. Or if his nerves failed him, being hung for deserting. Delightful.
Feeling suddenly overwhelmed at the thought of leaving tomorrow, the Valaoritis lord wanted very much to be out from under the scrutiny of the sharp girl before him. Sil blew out a breath and lifted a hand. “ You know what, forget it. Have a nice evening, life..whatever”.
He turned and began walking away.

As per usual, Imeeya’s interaction with Silanos was going downhill right from the start and yet this time somehow it was her fault. It was an uncomfortable feeling. Normally there was a spark between them, quick and clanging like when metal met metal in a pitched battle. Today it all fell flat. She had challenged him, and he hadn’t risen to meet it and now she just looked like a bully. Not that the man didn’t deserve it for everything he had put her and Asia through.
In his dismal attempt to fight back, Sil said that she had hurt his feelings. He played it off as a joke, but there was something in the tone that rang true. The realization hit Imeeya like a ton of bricks. Who knew the man actually had feelings? Since when did he care what she thought about him? Since when did he care about anything at all? Silanos of Valaoritis never seemed to have a care in the world. Had that been a facade all along? Had she finally found a crack in the armor? Imeeya couldn’t help but smirk at that small victory, but even that success was fleeting. He had taken it all completely the wrong way, and now he was leaving.
Imeeya’s thoughts were racing as she tried to process the new information. She didn’t know what to say to him. All she knew was that she didn’t actually want him to leave. Certainly not when he was upset with her. He was already a few steps away by the time she realized that she had to do something now before he was gone. “Wait, I didn’t mean it that way!” she called out to the man, taking a few quick steps and grabbing him by the wrist to stop him.
It wasn’t until her hand closed around her wrist that she realized what she’d done. She let go almost immediately as if she had been burned. Whatever possessed her to do that? She looked down so she wouldn’t catch his eye when he turned around. Assuming he turned around. Maybe it was better if he didn’t and just kept going. Imeeya wasn’t sure which option was better at this point. If only it were possible to melt into the ground in embarrassment, that sounded like the best possible plan at this moment.

His mood reall was somber if even the idea of trading barbs with Imeeya of Drakos didnt appeal. Silanos knew as he began walking that he didn’t want to go back to the Order House. The Red Knights would be readying themselves to leave, and he wanted to think about anything else but leaving. Already deciding to head into the city and try to find Estevan, the Valaoritis Lord could not have been more surprised than to hear the call from behind him.
"Wait, I didn’t mean it that way!"
The feeling of fingers closing around his wrist was only more jarring, and Sil ground to halt, pulling his arm in towards his body even as Lady Imeeya released her hold. His expression when he turned to look at her was one of confusion. Now she wanted him to stay?!
His acquaintance with Lady Imeeya had hardly been one grounded in anything positive. She had upbraided him in public for mistreating her friend, slapped him around the face, poured wine over him and said any number of unpleasant things about him. And whilst Silanos couldn't deny that winding her up was an entertaining pastime, he was taken aback in receiving anything other than disdain from the Drakos girl.
“What?” he said, incredulity stealing the place of his earlier misery. He pulled his head back a little, a doubtful lift of an eyebrow as he surveyed the blonde. “How did you mean it then?” There was a little curiosity that bled into his voice, because despite himself, Sil couldn’t help but be surprised by the girl’s sudden shift in demeanour.
Fucking typical. What was going on with the world? First he somehow got smacked in the face by the realisation that he felt something for Leto - a weird girl who climbed through windows and had no business making herself of interest to him - and now Imeeya of Drakos actually wanted him around? Sil thought some god was laughing their head off at his expense somewhere on Mount Olympus.
He gave a little shake of his head and shrugged, tried for nonchalance again “Too late now anyway, Lady Imeeya. Tomorrow I sail for Egypt and right now I’m planning on getting wrecked and forgetting about it. I somehow don’t imagine that’s your idea of fun, so how about we just call it even. You don’t like me, I can deal with that. Don’t trouble your pretty little head over it”

Don’t trouble your pretty little head over it”
His mood reall was somber if even the idea of trading barbs with Imeeya of Drakos didnt appeal.

Imeeya didn’t know how she had gotten herself into this situation. Normally all she wanted was for Silanos to go away, and now somehow she had managed to completely ruin that. She didn’t want him to leave, not if he was angry with her. Not that she could explain to herself why that would even matter, it wasn’t like she actually cared about his opinion, did she? Somehow it felt like time stretched out before her for ages as she waited for Silanos’s response. Would he be angry with her? Would he laugh at her attempt to be friendly? Imeeya wasn’t sure that she could stand either of them.
When he did finally respond, questioning what she had meant by her comment, time seemed to start up again, this time moving way too fast for her thoughts to catch up with time. “I just wanted...I didn’t mean to make you angry...it’s not like you cared before.” The words stumbled off Imeeya’s tongue. Normally she was quick with her words and now it felt as if her tongue had been stuck to the roof of her mouth as if she had just stuffed it with a rich, sweet piece of baklava, yet her mouth felt bone dry. Imeeya was sure she was saying the wrong thing and would somehow manage to offend the man all over again.
She wrung her hands tightly together as she tried to find a way to retract the accusation “I mean...I just didn’t think…” As her words ground to a halt the young Lord spoke again. He was leaving for Egypt with the rest of the men? He wasn’t a soldier. The thought only took a moment to pass through her head before her anger was reignited by Sil’s accusation that she didn’t like him. “It’s not that I don’t like you. It’s just that you’re absolutely infuriating,” Imeeya snapped at Silanos. Even as she said it, Imeeya wondered if that was true. If she didn’t dislike Sil, it was news to her, and yet, she had said it without even thinking. Did that make it true, or was she just refusing to let this man tell her what she was feeling? It was an uncomfortable feeling, not knowing her own mind.
Imeeya quickly tried to change topics to something that was more straightforward, and less likely to expose a weakness in her argument that Silanos would almost certainly try to exploit. That is, if he were acting anything like he normally did. “What makes you think getting drunk is going to make getting shipped off to war any better?” Imeeya challenged him. Imeeya had never experienced enough adversity in her life to understand the appeal of drinking to forget, even for a moment. “And why are you being sent off to war anyway? Since when are you a soldier?” It seemed odd to Imeeya that this man who had never seemed to take anything seriously a day in his life was suddenly needed for the war effort. “Surely it couldn’t be that important for you to go?” Suddenly, Imeeya found that it wasn’t Silanos that she wished to argue with but the person who had made the decision to send him off to war. Though if pressed, she wouldn’t have been able to say why she even cared whether or not he was leaving.

It was like he’d wandered into an alternate world, or maybe he was dreaming. Haughty, implacable, uppity Imeeya of Drakos telling him that she didn’t want him to leave, that she didn’t mean to make him angry. Actually grabbing hold of him to prevent his going.
He stared at her, unblinking, as she babbled through her reasoning. Reasoning which made no sense to him, of course, she wanted to make him angry. That's what they did, wound each other up. Sil considered himself expert at it, but even he could admit that the Drakos girl had talent too. Mainly being snooty, but that was by the by.
It made no difference now anyway, and the Valaoritis Lord tried to make light of what his future held like it was nothing. He thought he was giving Lady Imeeya a nice easy out. She could bow out gracefully and he wouldn’t be bothering her again. More than anything he just wanted to go and lick his wounds and was reignited by Sil’s accusation that she didn’t like him. pretend for a bit that tomorrow wasn’t happening. But the Drakos girl seemed to be stumbling through some sort of realisation, and Sil wasn’t sure if he should be flattered or offended by "It’s not that I don’t like you. It’s just that you’re absolutely infuriating,"
“Oh right, well, that clarifies things nicely,” he said, his expression saying it did anything but. Had he been more himself, the lord might have pounced on such an admission, poked at the fact that she didn’t not like him, but he didn’t have the inclination for it. Not tonight.
When she asked why getting drunk would help, Sil laughed. “Gods you are precious” he muttered. Chasing the carefree oblivion that poppy could offer, or drinking himself insensible seemed much preferable to sitting up all night panicking about leaving. And when she asked the very question he'd been asking, pointed out everything that he’d been trying to make obvious to the man who held his fate in his hands. Silanos let his head fall forward, scuffed his shoe in the dirt before he looked back at the Drakos girl.
“You think I haven’t been asking the same thing? Believe me, sweetheart, this is not in any way my idea. You can ask your cousin. He’s the one determined to see me chopped into pieces by some snake fuc- by some Egyptian. I just have to go where I’m told”
Unless he didn’t, and Sil knew he couldn’t bring that kind of shame upon his family. Not with everything. He’d brought this mess on himself, and if someone had to pay the price for it then it should be him, not them. It made his throat feel tight, and he worried that he was going to embarrass himself if he kept talking about it. Shaking his head, he fixed his gaze somewhere past the girl’s shoulder “Honestly, Imeeya. I’m not good company tonight. You should take yourself back inside.”

Shaking his head, he fixed his gaze somewhere past the girl’s shoulder “Honestly, Imeeya. I’m not good company tonight. You should take yourself back inside.”
This whole conversation had thrown Imeeya completely off balance, and she didn’t like it. She was used to being in control of the events around her, in control of her own emotions. Now it was like everything she thought she knew was slipping through her fingers like she was trying to hold onto a handful of dry sand and she was scrambling to keep even a few grains. It was only when she found her anger at the injustice of the situation that she had managed to put any coherent words together. Or even any coherent thoughts.
Imeeya ignored any snarky comments Sil directed her way. It seemed useless to try to make her feelings any clearer by trying to explain them out loud. Instead, she focused her irritation on the fact that her cousin had decided to send this man off to war. It had been her experience that when a man went off to war they didn’t come home. It had happened with her father, it had happened with her uncle. She didn’t want it to happen to Sil if she could help it. There was no reason for him to have to go fight somewhere off in Egypt. He was no soldier and if Vangelis was taking some sort of twisted revenge on Sil for kissing Asia, Imeeya was sure that he’d be able to see reason on this matter. “Well, perhaps he’ll listen to me then. I am his cousin after all.” He had always been kind to her, perhaps her argument would be able to sway his decision. It didn’t cross Imeeya’s mind that her recent actions in Taengea might have persuaded Vangelis that her opinions were not to be trusted, at least as far as military matters were concerned.
Imeeya was about to storm right back into the Kotas manor there and then and demand to know exactly what Vangelis was thinking when Silanos suggested that she should leave him alone. Ever the contrarian, the moment that he suggested that she do exactly what she was planning, it was the last thing she wanted to do. Or maybe it was the way he said it. There was something in his tone that seemed to indicate that being left alone was the last thing that Silanos needed at the moment. He had already indicated that he was planning on going off and getting drunk to deal with this.
Imeeya’s eyes narrowed. “You’re just trying to get rid of me so you can go drinking aren’t you?” Imeeya should have known. He’d never shown any previous indication that he had any regard for her feelings, why would he start now if it wasn’t some sort of ruse. “Pulling that kind of stunt is exactly how you’re going to find yourself dead on some foreign battlefield.” As she spoke, Imeeya’s voice raised in both pitch and intensity. She didn’t know why she cared so much, but that thought upset her a great deal. She felt her angry facade cracking to show the underlying fear, but there was nothing she could do to stop it. All she knew is she’d do whatever it took to make sure that Sil didn’t die for something so stupid.

If Silanos had thought for one moment that Imeeya was being serious about talking to Vangelis, he certainly wouldn’t have reacted with the dismissive, defeated sort of laugh that he did. He would have been telling her not to bother, because he could just imagine the reaction that would prompt, and he really did not want to have to explain to the Crown Prince why another of his female relations was suddenly interested in what happened to Sil. That might lead to questions and then if the poppy story got out he was pretty sure his life wouldn’t be worth living. No thanks.
But Lady Imeeya of Drakos did seem interested in what happened to Sil. Even after he’d told her to go, she seemed to have warmed to her topic and Sil just didn’t have the energy to argue. Eyes widening briefly in a moment of frustration, he pressed his lips together. Yes he wanted her to go back inside so he could go and get wasted and be miserable in peace. But true to form, she was bent not doing what Silanos wanted and he heaved a sigh, readying himself for whatever lecture she was going to give him, arms folded across his chest.
What she did though, wiped the resigned sort of look from his face, and instead had his brow crease in bewilderment. For as well as pointing out one of those lovely Egyptian scenarios he’d been trying to avoid thinking about, she actually sounded as if she might be bothered by the idea. Now who was being infuriating?
For a moment, there was a sudden pooling of light at the far end of the courtyard as a servant threw open the door and hurried across toward the kitchens and Sil reflexively stood straight, until he was assured it wasn't anyone of note. And when the other had left them alone again, he leant forwards a little, wary to keep his voice down.
“Stunt?” he echoed dumbly, peering at her expression in the shadows to see if it matched up with the strain he could hear in her voice. What was she trying to achieve? Pointing out that he was dumb and would get himself killed? Not helpful. And then sounding like she was upset by the fact? Also not helpful. And then, because he really couldn’t understand what was going on with this girl. “....I don’t know why you are suddenly pretending you’d care. Really, it’s fine. You don't have to act like you'd be sad about the fact.”

No thanks.

Imeeya had been caught completely off guard by how much she cared whether or not Silanos liked her or not. Before today, she would have said she didn’t care whether or not Silanos lived or died, and that she had a slight preference for him dying. Clearly she was wrong about what she had thought. She didn’t like that feeling, not even knowing her own mind. Imeeya didn’t like not knowing things, and now it was herself, the thing she should be most familiar with, that she didn’t understand. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
At the moment, the discomfort rated slightly behind that she felt at the idea of Silanos dying in Egypt because of some stupid mistake that he would certainly make if he didn’t start taking this whole deployment seriously. No, there was no reason that he needed to go to Egypt in the first place. She would make sure that Vangelis saw that.
Imeeya’s thoughts were interrupted only momentarily as a door opened in the courtyard. Imeeya attempted to take a moment to compose herself from her outburst at the man standing in front of her. She only hoped that no one had heard their conversation, Asia would never let her live down a conversation with this man who had only recently agreed was bad news. Silanos also seemed to remember that they might be overheard as he stepped closer and lowered his voice. There was something that ran down her spine at him standing so close, perhaps fear for his fate.
Then what did Silanos do? He laughed at the idea that she might actually care what happened to him. Right to her face. Did he think she was a liar? What on earth could she possibly gain from pretending to care about him? But the words that leapt to her mind to challenge him with rang hollow. ‘No I do care about you.’? It sounded like a contrarian toddler, completely bratty and unconvincing. Her mind raced as she tried to think of any possible way to prove her point.
Then, without thinking, she found that she was moving closer to Sil. Her lips touched his, an act of defiance as much as attraction. She had only meant for it to last for a moment, in truth, she hadn’t meant for it to happen at all, but as they touched, her lips lingered a moment on his. They were warmer than she had expected and it was such a pleasant sensation. A second later it was as if her brain had suddenly started working again. What was she doing? Her face flushed a deep red as she pulled back away, quickly. “Do you believe me now?” She snapped at Silanos, her anger trying to cover her complete disbelief at what had just happened. Was her heart beating faster than normal? Could he tell that she wasn’t mad at him and had actually enjoyed that more than she was willing to admit? Imeeya suddenly felt extremely vulnerable, like those dreams where she finally made it to the Senate, but she had forgotten to wear clothes.

It wasn’t often that Silanos found himself rendered speechless. He was usually pretty adept at coming up with an answer or retort to anything. And he thought as he stared down at the features of Imeeya of Drakos that he had triumphed once again and that perhaps they could end this little charade and he could be on his way.
She looked to be grasping for words, and Sil waited for the inevitable haughty protest that would signify the end of their interaction and that she could add to the many other stories of him behaving ungraciously and offending her somehow.
It was this arrogance, this assumption that he could so easily predict the resolution of their conversation that left Sil so unprepared for what actually happened. He had closed the distance between them so as to keep their conversation private, but Lady Imeeya obviously saw other opportunities, when without saying another word, she leant across the space abruptly, pressing her lips against his own. It was a motion that had the Valaoritis Lord freeze in place, every muscle rigid. His arms, still folded stubbornly across his chest, tensed and his eyes were almost comically wide as they looked down at the blonde girl currently attached to his face.
What in the fuck was going on?
The kiss lasted no more than a moment and was so chaste that Silanos would barely have given it such a name. Would not have, had he not first-hand experience of exactly how costly such innocent kisses could be.
“Fucking...what..Imeeya! What the fuck was that?” Sil’s voice was little more than a hissed whisper through his teeth as the girl pulled back from him, more shock and awe than annoyance though he was certain that would follow. The Valaoritis Lord glanced around the courtyard in concern, suddenly glad of the film of shadow that gave some privacy, but with a cold feeling trickling down his spine all the same. If someone had seen….
“You…”
He was still trying to catch up and looked at her blankly when she asked if he believed her. Believed what? He was finding it hard to believe any fucking thing about what had just happened. But with a deep red flush creeping over the Drakos’ girl’ face and the echo of warm lips left against his own Sil couldn’t deny it.
“You’re going to get me killed” he said, low and disbelieving. “I’m a dead man. Actually dead” It seemed ironic, after everything, that the one thing that would spell his downfall hadn't actually been his idea. And whether it was nerves or shock or just the fact that he was impressed at how fucking ballsy she was, but Sil had to choke back the laugh that wanted to come out. It was laugh or cry, and he wasn’t going to cry. Taking a deep breath through his nose, the young lord calmed himself somewhat.
“Why would you do that?”

Imeeya couldn’t begin to explain to herself what had just happened or why she had done it. Nor was she ready to admit to herself that what she wanted most right now was to do it again. She had never expected a kiss with Silanos, however brief, to be that nice. The man had been an annoyance to her ever since she had returned from Taengea. How could he be so suddenly charming now? Not that he was charming, she corrected herself almost instantly, just...nice to kiss.
Nothing could have prepared Imeeya for the reaction that she would get from that action. She had been vulnerable acting on a desire so deep that she hadn’t even realized it existed and the man reacted as if she had slapped him full force in the face. Immediately, Imeeya’s expression darkened to one of anger. “If you didn’t like it you just had to say so. No reason to poke fun at me.” Imeeya waited for another barb to land from the man but instead, he appeared flustered. What could he possibly be playing at? She frowned as she waited for Silanos to form some coherent words. Yet again she was surprised by the words that left his mouth.
“What on earth do you mean I’m going to get you killed? I’m trying to stop you from getting killed.” Imeeya was offended by the suggestion. After all, hadn’t all of this started because she had gotten upset at the idea of him being sent off to Egypt to die? How would a simple kiss get him killed anyway? All memory of her warning to Silanos about Vangelis threatening to kill him if he went anywhere near Asia again had been forgotten as she had developed her own personal dislike for the man. Even had she remembered that statement, that had been about Asia and not her. Vangelis surely wasn’t as protective of her as his own sister.
As to his last question, why did she do this? She couldn’t have said herself, but she wasn’t going to let him know that. She had been vulnerable and found that the whole thing had been thrown back in her face. She wasn’t going to make that mistake again. “Why do you think I did it?” Imeeya glared at him as she said it, hoping that asking the question rhetorically would buy her time for some sort of snappy response that would put Sil back on the defensive but one never came to mind. Instead, she let the question hang there, hoping maybe Silanos would have a better answer for what was going on here. She certainly had no good explanation.

What was with this girl?! Silanos just gawped at her as she seemed to grow angry again, almost willfully misunderstanding him “...if I didn’t like it?! That’s not the fucking point and I’m not poking fun” he answered, uncrossing his arms and sweeping one around them.
“Look where we are. Why am I here? You think anyone is gonna take kindly to knowing..what you just did?!” Yes, because he hadn’t done it. Not this time. This was not on him. He looked around again, scouring the windows that overlooked the courtyard and tipped odd litttle pools of light into the otherwise darkened space. It all looked quiet, and Sil could only hope that there were no sharp gazes that he couldn’t see. When his eyes returned to the Drakos girl, he looked at her fierce expression, so prickly and defensive again so soon after and after being momentarily outraged that she was the one acting so put out about it all, he realised how she’d taken his words.
Rejection stung, even if it was well intentioned.
“Look Imeeya. You’re sweet, honestly. Fucking insane and unusually aggressive but sweet. And I appreciate it. And believe me, I don’t not like it. But I’m on my last life here. If anyone saw..”
It didn’t really bear thinking about and Sil swallowed. There was a reason he preferred not being sober. Moments like this were much easier to stomach if one was drunk or high. He should know, he’d been in similar situations at least twice. And that was rather the problem. He stared at her uncomprehendingly when she fired her question at him. How the fuck was he supposed to know how her crazy mind worked? Sighing loudly, he plumbed for a level of patience he thought unknown to man before, reminded himself to stay calm. Ish.
“I’m going to say it was my irresistible charm” Silanos eventually answered, sparing both of them a more awkward conversation. If Imeeya liked him like that then he had to fucking shut it down. She might be pretty but she wasn’t worth dying over, and Sil was pretty sure Vangelis would toss him off the boat before they even reached Egypt if he got wind of this little disaster. Or Tim. Or maybe both.
Pulling his thoughts away from that distressing line of reasoning, the Valaoritis Lord at least tried to soften his next words. “It’s a bad idea, don’t you think?”
And that was an understatement. It was the worst idea. Sil would have been less surprised if she’d punched him, if he were being honest. But Imeeya had done something that had the potential to be a lot more damaging. “Let’s just pretend that never happened” he continued, hoping she’d at least see sense in that. “None need know”.

If Imeeya had thought that she had disliked this man before, it was nothing compared to what she felt towards him now. There was nothing he could say that could possibly justify his actions to her. It was only a kiss, there was no reason to react like this. How was he now the one who was looking at her like she was the crazy one? Not only that, but he had the nerve to call her insane? To swear at her?
Behind her swirling rage, a part of her processed that this was a bad idea. Sil would be in trouble as much, if not more than her if they were found out. He was right, he would be the one to be blamed as if she couldn’t be trusted to know her own mind. That thought only added fuel to her anger. Still, she was not willing to accept that Silanos might in any way be right. She had done nothing to deserve this treatment.
Now he was trying to be apologetic. What on earth was that about? She almost would have preferred if her kiss had gotten her a slap than...whatever this was. What was she supposed to do with this? He couldn’t just reject her like a normal person, he had to compliment her in between, make it seem like it wasn’t his decision at all, and weasel his way out of any kind of responsibility. He wanted to make her say that this had all been a bad idea. It hadn’t seemed it at the time but clearly she had been mistaken about the kind of man that Silanos was. He had been a pain in her side, but she had never thought that he could be cruel.
“Yes, I think we can both agree this was clearly a bad idea.” Imeeya hissed back at him. Imeeya’s voice escalated in anger as she continued to speak. “Don’t worry, I’m more than happy to forget all about ever thinking you were capable of being an actual human being for once.” For a brief moment, it had seemed like the man might have been capable of actually feeling something. It was clear now that he had only been toying with her from the get-go. Just as he had been toying with Asia.
Imeeya whirled abruptly and headed back into the house. Anywhere to be away from Silanos. She hoped the man fell in the sea on the way to Egypt. He didn’t even deserve to die the hero’s death of being killed by an Egyptian.
It wasn’t until she was back inside that the white-hot rage had faded, and she found herself surreptitiously wiping a tear from her face, lest anyone see and ask inconvenient questions.

Silanos stared at Imeeya. Feeling increasingly confused and no less alarmed by what ever the fuck had just happened, his mouth fell open as she proceeded to get angry at him, despite his best efforts to diffuse the situation. She was...he didn’t even know what she was, only it seemed like his day was taking a turn from shitty to even shittier. As her voice grew louder in her entirely unwarranted anger, Silanos’ eyes took in their surroundings again, and it was only this that had him hold his tongue.
Well that at the fact that he was sent reeling a little bit by the venom she spat at him. What in Hades name had he done wrong?! He couldn’t fucking win! He kissed people, he was in the wrong, and ended up spending his days running round after Vangelis like some sort of slave. He didn’t kiss people and apparently he was incapable of being a human being?
Sil was done. Fuck trying to do the right thing. “You know what Imeeya…” he started, but the blonde girl had already spun on her heel and was flouncing back towards the manor. He told himself it was that which had him fall silent, but really, he didn’t even know what he was supposed to say to that. Silanos was left to stare after her, pushing a hand through his hair in vexation.
Watching her disappear into the house and back to her family he blew out a long breath. Well good. That was what he’d wanted. He’d told her to go away, that he was a bad idea. Good that she could listen now and then. Only for some reason, he felt even more wretched than he had done before he’d nearly walked into her on his way to drown his sorrows.
Like he’d done wrong by her somehow. Why had she kissed him? Why was she so fucking contrary? Shaking his head, Sil stared at the doorway she had gone through for a few long moments before turning and going in search of his vices.
