Maleos figured that he should probably leave his chambers every once in a while, and should probably do something other than training when he did. He didn’t know what his exact plan was, other than force himself to go outside and into the sunlight. And so he dressed himself in his casual Captains uniform, not wanting there to be any issues of his identity being mistaken. If not for the uniforms he wore denoting him as a Captain, he looked every bit a commoner. He supposed it was easy to see that he was not someone of good breeding, money or a proper family name, and most did not recognize him on the streets. Why would they? For the most part it was no matter to them who was Captain in the Men of The Heights.
Still, Maleos allowed himself to feel pride for his rank, the rank he had worked so hard to obtain, and so he wore his Captains uniform with pride. His sword was sheathed at his side, there was more than likely not going to be a reason to use it that day, but he never went anywhere without at least one weapon with him. To Maleos, it was just good sense to always be able to defend yourself.
He headed outside, passing several people as he headed for the market. He had no goal in mind, and definitely had no intention of purchasing anything from any while he was there. He had everything he needed included in the supplies for himself and his men who were stationed there alongside him.
When he made it to the actual market, he slowed his pace and casually flowed with the crowd there, though he noticed people giving him a bit of extra room when they noticed his clothing, and though his face remained neutral, he felt a little tinge of happiness inside. He enjoyed the respect and awe he was given along with his rank, it was one of the reasons he had worked so hard to get to Captain. Maleos had come from a common household where there was hardly enough to feed all the children and their parents, and he had fought his way up from that, quite literally. It was something he took great pride in.
His posture was stiff and proper as he walked, not even a slight slouch to his shoulders as his dark green-brown eyes scanned the surroundings and the people who moved through it. Places like this were always so full of life, people commuting from one place to another, carrying things or leading animals, or chatting with their friends and neighbours. He usually avoided this kind of place, a place packed with other people. And yet today, he found himself drawn to it for some reason that was unknown to him. He chalked it up to being tired of staying cooped up in his chamber in the barracks he and his men currently occupied.
He wandered for a while, pace slow as he simply observed the goings on of the day. He checked the shadows of corners and alleys, the military side of him coming out as he watched for strange behavior. Someone once joked to him that he was never off duty, even when he was, and Maleos had in all seriousness agreed. His life revolved around his military career, it was his passion and something he took very seriously. He had no shame in building so much of himself around it.

"Who are you?"
Maximus stared blankly at the African man who was sitting on a wooden box. In front of him lay a wooden table that looked like it was going to fall anytime. Other Colchians passed by the old man and looked at him with a confused expression. Maximus blinked as continuing to stare at the African, he was an old man with creases all over his face. In addition, he had white, scraggly beard along and had at least 4 missing teeth. The old man was hunched over and was leaning on his stick for support, it was adorned with symbols that were unfamiliar to Maximus. They shared the same skin, but grew up in different areas. The solider let the shock flow out of him before mustering up the courage to answer.
"I am Maximus of Laconia," Maximus answered with pride in his voice. "I am a solider of the Fifth Phalanx and I'm dedicated to uphold the glory of Colchis."
That was the line he drilled himself to say ever since he joined the Fifth Phalanx. Maximus grew up learning about the pride and glory of Colchis. He was taught never to retreat, to never surrender and that death was the greatest glory a solider could ever achieve. Maximus was raised to become the perfect solider and it was something that he took pride in. Who was this old African? Telling him who he was.
"Is that something that you believe?" the old man said his fingers brushing against the beads around his neck. "Or is that something that you were told to believe?"
"I believe it," Maximus replied without any hesitation. Just five minutes ago, the young man was just walking around looking at the merchants goods as usual until he was randomly called out by this old man. It was annoying to even be questioned about who he was. Yet deep down there was a niggling doubt in Maximus' mind that maybe it was a question he didn't ponder. Who was he? Maximus quickly shook those doubts though, he's a warrior: A loyal solider to Colchis. He'll die for this Kingdom if necessary and gloriously.
Maximus glared at the old man. "I suggest you know your place here," he said coldly. "To question the loyalty of a Colchian isn't something that you should be doing on a daily basis."
The old man just simply smiled, if it were anyone else but Maximus he would get beaten and thrown to the sea for even trying to deter a citizen's loyalty to the kingdom. Colchis is an Kingdom full of hardy and healthy people, they are proud of who they are and people like Maximus fight to protect their interest. Maximus sighed and tossed a silver to the African and turned on his heel walking away. It was then, he saw a familiar face walking around the market place.
"Captain Maleos!" Maximus said grinning. Maleous was a commander for a legion back when Maximus was on tour fighting the Barbarian tribes. He was also a good friend of his, which Maximus found strange considering that he out ranked him. Maximus approached his friend and snapped at attention.

Maleos hadn't expected to run into someone he knew at the market, especially not someone that he sort of worked with at one point. Or at least worked near, the other male had been in a different legion than the one he commanded, but they were still in a few of the same battles. The other seemed excited to see Maleos, and he internally sighed. He knew he would have to deal with people while he was out and about, but he didn't think that he would run into some one who actually knew him. He gave the other a little nod as he was approached and greeted. He wasn't sure what exactly the other thought of him, but figured it couldn't be a bad opinion if he approached him in such a good mood. He easily could have just let Maleos pass without a word and the Captain would have easily lost him in the crowd.
He thought back, trying to put a name to his face. They had met a few times, shared a drink or two after a battle, but it had been awhile since they had seen each other, at least last he could remember. Lucky for Maleos it did not take him long to remember his name.
“Maximus, it has been awhile.” He said, nodding his head in a little greeting and holding his hand out to shake his in a friendly manner. Maleos was not the most socially adept of people, but he knew how to act polite and courteous at the very least. People continued moving around them, leaving a space around the two men as they walked where ever they were going.
“At ease. Neither of us are on duty right now. You may address me as an acquaintance rather than a Captain.” He told the other, though he wouldn't argue if the other continued to call him Captain. The occasion was a casual one, a simple chance meeting in the market, there was no need for official titles or standing at attention, at least in his opinion. He may be awkward when it came to social cues, but he knew when things should be formal and when it was okay to make it a little more casual.
“What brings you to Midas? I was not aware your company was in the city.” He said, motioning for the other to come with him as he began to walk once more among the crowd of the market. He figured if he was going to talk with the other, he might as well be active while doing it. Maleos was not great at sitting still, he never had been. His mother had told him many times to sit still and be patient, but he had failed at it every time he had tried. He was a man of action, even if that action was just doing anything but standing still. He walked with his hands behind his back, still observing the crowds and the people in them, despite now having a companion as he walked.
Everything seemed normal so far, he didn't see anything too out of the ordinary. Though he had learned a long time ago, walking the market with his father, that anything could happen and it could happen suddenly. You never knew where there was going to be something eventful, even if it was something that turned out to be a small matter when it was dealt with. He sort of hoped for a little excitement that day, at least something to make his time worth it when he could have spent it running drills with his men or training himself.
His attention went back to the man at his side, and he focused on what he was saying, doing his best to be friendly with the other. It wasn't that he minded having friends, and those that held similar ambitions and an interest in the military were the best people to talk to, it was just that he was finding himself a little distracted recently, and he wasn't exactly sure why. It seemed as if he was having a hard time focusing on anything much lately.
Yet he was determined not to be rude, and determined to uphold a conversation with the other male. He did like him, he wasn't bad to talk to, and he seemed like an honest and honourable enough person. Perhaps Maleos needed to let his guard down a little and take his own advice. He was off duty and the moment, perhaps he needed to take a step back from being Captain and be a little more present in the conversation.
Though in his opinion he was never really off duty, though he was not with his men and they were not at that exact moment dealing with any official business or combat, the military side of Maleos never really shut off.
He did his best to push it aside for now and converse with Maximus.

Maximus smiled getting closer towards Maleos and shaking his hand. He could tell that it took the Captain a little bit to recognize Maximus. The young man couldn't blame him It's been months since Maximus saw Maleos. Maximus first met the Captain when his unit was ambushed by Barbarians north of Greece. Maximus remembered walking with his brothers about 80 of them in single file traversing the forest. Their mission was to build a bridge in an effort to create more roads. Not a glamorous job and one that Maximus suspected was ordered by the Merchants Guild, but If it was for the advancement of Colchis then who was he to question it? The Fifth Phalanx were halfway to their objective until they heard a loud, piercing cry from what felt like it came from all sides of the forest.
Maximus remembered the scream all too well: A ringing voice that instilled terror through his entire body. It sounded like a Hydra with multiple heads screaming at him. The next few minutes was a blur but Maximus recalled the Barbarians coming out from hiding armed with wooden shields, Axes and stolen spears and began attacking the unit from all flanks slaughtering the provoked soldiers. Maximus killed 2 maybe three of them but somehow ended up flat on his back, most likely caused by covered in a mix of his brother's blood and the Barbarians blood and for a moment Maximus thought that this was going to be his end. That is until Maleos and his forces arrived from out of nowhere to beat back the Barbarians. Maximus saw Maleous offering a hand and for the rest of his tour, Maximus and Maleous became good friends.
"At ease. Neither of us are on duty right now. You may address me as an acquaintance rather than a Captain.” Maleous said as Maximus released his hand.
"Of course," Maximus' voice sounded a little shaky. He wasn't used to addressing his superior officer with nothing more than their rank.
“What brings you to Midas? I was not aware your company was in the city.” Maleous said.
Maximus chuckled at that remark. "They're not," he replied. "We're off-duty so I've decided to explore Midas. The Markeplace is fascinating full of men and women from around the world. It's strange that Colchis attracts different kinds of people given our reputation." Colchis were militaristic and proud one that many countries do not understand. It wasn't Maximus' job to persuade though. His job was to kill the realm's enemies.
"What about you?" Maximus asked. "Why are you here?"

"What about you?" Maximus asked. "Why are you here?"
Maleos nodded a little, while he typically couldn't understand wanting to come to such a crowded place as the market, he had done the exact same thing that day. Mostly out of the need to get out of his chambers and do something other than sitting at his desk replying to correspondence. He could agree, that it was odd that so many people from different places would come and visit Colchis of all the other places they could go. For him there was no where better, but he had grown up there his whole life, and being a strict military man, he fit right in with the majority of other men who lived there. He couldn't imagine coming from other lands to visit Colchis.
"How have you found your trip to the market then? Have you found anything or anyone interesting?" He asked, curious to see if Maximus had seen anything strange. He was sure if there had been anything of concern, he would have wasted no time in telling the Captain. If he knew one thing about the man, it was that he seemed to be a very loyal soldier, the kind that Maleos wanted to fill his ranks with. He had no time for those men who did not place all of their loyalties with their superior officers. The military was all or nothing in his opinion, there was no halfway when it came to being in their ranks. And especially not under the command of someone such as himself. He did not know Maximus' direct leader well, but if men like Maximus were any indication of his command, Maleos felt like he would get along with him.
"The Men of The Heights were here to help with the effort to rebuild after the fires. Now we await orders on what we are to do next. Until then, we remain in Midas." He explained simply, as far as he knew, the rebuild was done for the most part. He simply waited with the other men to hear if there was more to do or if they would be moving on from Midas and going else where. He had to admit, he was growing a bit impatient waiting. He had never been a very patient man, his mother had always tried to instill patience in him, but to her dismay it hadn't worked well.
The two men walked at a casual pace as they spoke, and Maleos couldn't help his eyes as they wandered, taking in the faces of the people around them, and the actions of them as well. He sort of wished for something more interesting to happen, wishing to see how Maximus would react. He was always curious to see how certain people would react when presented with certain situations. He fully believed that a mans character was shown through the actions he took. And while he sort of knew Maximus, had even potentially saved the others life, he didn't feel like he could fully judge who the man was quite yet.
Everyone in the market seemed to be behaving themselves though, most likely because of the Captain who walked among them. His intense gaze moved back to look at Maximus.
"Have you heard word of your next active campaign?" He asked curiously. He knew that other companies may be given orders that he was not aware of, after all it was not his job to keep track of every phalanx or infantry unit that was active. He was merely in charge of his own and the orders he was given.

"How have you found your trip to the market then? Have you found anything or anyone interesting?"
Maximus frowned a bit leaning next to a wooden pole. He didn't want to tell Maelos about the African with the shaved head, stark blue eyes and sunken face. While Maximus found him creepy, he wasn't sure what Maleous would do to the old African if he told him what happened. "Nothing much," Maximus replied forcing a small smile. "It's the usual trinkets that foreigners would try to sell off as more rare than it actually is. I keep coming to this place in hopes of finding something different but I'm disappointed."
It was true, the marketplace of Midas has been rather slow these days in regards to quality items being shown. How many times has Maximus been shown an old stick with merchants claiming it belonged to some great warrior? Maximus then began to follow Maelous at a casual place. He was starting to become restless, and he wanted to redeploy again. Maximus' place belonged on the battlefield struggling with his brothers he couldn't believe he would say this but the prospect of building more bridges started to become exciting again.
"The Men of The Heights were here to help with the effort to rebuild after the fires. Now we await orders on what we are to do next. Until then, we remain in Midas." Maleous said.
Maximus sighed, Colchis was still recovering from the fire that consumed the mines. He still had nightmares of the flames and destruction. However, Maximus was glad to have rescued some people at least. "It was good that you arrived when you did." Maximus said as he walked through the busy marketplace. "It was tough to rebuild, It's easy to tear a place down than to build it back up."
"Have you heard word of your next active campaign?" Maleous asked.
Maximus shook his head. "None at all," he answered. "The realm has been quiet these days, which is a good thing. There were some rumors of unrest in Tangea but I don't know too much about that."

Maleos did not miss the frown on the others face, and he wondered what it was that he was hiding from the Captain. Clearly it was something, as he had not frowned until Maleos had asked about seeing anything out of the ordinary. Clearly there was something strange that Maximus did not want his superior to know about. Maleos was not happy about that, keeping things from him was not a way to win his favour. He did not mention it though, and his face did not show his feelings on the topic. He let it slide, sure if it was anything of great importance, the other male would have told him of it. He may be hiding something, but Maleos did not think he would hide anything of note. Or perhaps he was naive and blinded by his own honesty in thinking that others were the same way. Either way he put it out of his mind and simply gave the other male a nod in acceptance of what he said.
He nodded. "It was hard work, but I have never been one to complain about such things." He said simply. In fact, he had actually enjoyed all the work. He didn't get to do things like that often at his rank, but they had needed all available hands on deck so Maleos had gladly pitched in and spent the days working and sweating along with the other men. For a few moments he felt as if he was back in his days as a javelin thrower when he had first joined up with the military. He remembered the feeling of the work and the battle like it was yesterday. They were some of his favourite memories.
He nodded. He knew more of the unrest that Maximus spoke of than the other man did, but he did not say such things. There was certain information he was privy to as Captain and that information was not to be talked about unless it was with those of equal knowledge.
"I agree. The quietness is a good thing, at least for the people. Makes us military men feel of little use though, does it not?" He gave a slight smile, or as much of a smile as Maleos ever gave which was more like the corners of his mouth pulling up a little for a brief moment. Easy to miss if one was not paying attention. He was not the smiling type, even as a child his parents had said they could barely coax a smile out of him. He did like the fact that there seemed to be relative peace at the moment, as it meant that the citizens he risked his life for were safe and happy, but at the same time the warrior in him craved battle and blood and death.
He never really spoke of how much he actually enjoyed battle, he wasn't sure that anyone would ever really understand him. He had heard tell of many military men going mad from their memories of fighting and killing, and he couldn't imagine the feeling. For him, he was in his prime when he was killing the enemies of Colchis, he loved every minute of it. These were things he never spoke aloud though, for fear of judgement and rumours. He wasn't sure even a man who shared passion for the military side of things like Maximus did would understand how he felt.

"It was hard work, but I have never been one to complain about such things." Maleous added as they walked towards the center of the marketplace.
"A soldier should never complain about serving his kingdom," Maximus said putting his hands behind his back at a soldier's attention. "Well not outwardly." Maximus finished with a smile remembering all the monotonous tasks that came with becoming Colchian soldier.
He supposed he should be grateful that he was off-duty. The ambush by the barbarians all those months back did a number on Maximus mentally. Even after burying his comrades and giving them proper honors, Maximus was still haunted by their deaths. Perhaps Ares was testing a little too much with his plague of dreams.
"I agree. The quietness is a good thing, at least for the people. Makes us military men feel of little use though, does it not?" Maleous said flashing Maximus a rare smile. He always seemed so somber as though he was lost in thought, but Maximus knew from their interactions while on the battlefield that Maleous was a great man to have around.
"If times were peaceful," Maximus smiled. "We'll be out of the job," It's a soldier's job to maintain the peace, though if times were too peaceful, then soldiers can get restless like they were.
"Our place is on the battlefield," Maximus continued. "Defending the weak and killing the realms enemies what use are we if we are to just stand around and do nothing?"

"Too true. And yet, I hear many men complain about such things." He said. He agreed completely, no matter how insignificant or tedious the task was, he had never once complained about serving Colchis. He had chosen this life, he could have easily just taken over for his father at his pottery shop and lived a simple life. But serving Colchis and the people who called it home was what his passion had been, and he loved every moment of it. He loved the combat the most, but any thing he could do to help the people was a worthy task in his eyes.
He nodded in agreement with Maximus' next words. He agreed completely, though peace was nice for the regular citizens, the men of the military relied on conflict. As bad as it sounded, it was a reality of life. There always had been some sort of conflict, and there had always been men such as Maleos and Maximus to fight those conflicts to keep the regular people safe and comfortable. Without the military men laying their lives down for them, the average citizen would live in fear and death would be abundant.
Maleos paused for a brief moment in their walk, focusing in on one particular merchant who was peddling books from lands afar as he claimed. To the surprise of many, Maleos was an avid reader. As a child the stories his mother read to him about great Generals and war heroes were what inspired him to join the military in the first place. That love for a good story had carried on to his adult life, and one of the only times that he could handle sitting still and not being active was when he was reading a good book.
He spoke to the merchant briefly, asking about his wares. He purchased the one book the man had that held some interest to Maleos, tucking it in his satchel before looking back at Maximus.
"Apologies, I can not pass up the opportunity for a good story." He said simply. The Captain then resumed their walk about the market, pace going back to the slow walk it had been before. He wasn't sure how many people knew about his love for reading, and typically it wasn't really a topic that would ever come up, especially not in front of a fellow military man, but he could not pass up the opportunity to purchase a new book that might interest him. He could have planned to return later when he was alone, but he was not sure that any books would be left that would be of interest to him. It wasn't as if his reading was a big secret, but it wasn't something he talked of with others. Except with Timaeus, the only man who knew just about everything there was to know about Maleos.
"We have nearly walked the entire market. There is yet nothing that holds your interest?" He asked, since the other man had mentioned earlier that he came here to see if there was anything worth his time. So far he did not seem interested in anything there. And Maleos really couldn't blame him, nothing seemed to be exotic or new in any way, aside from the book that Maleos had already purchased, there was nothing else there that caught his attention either. He supposed the market might be exciting for new comers or those who did not have the money to buy the things they wanted. Maleos didn't want much, he didn't have much in the way of personal possessions other than his books.

Maximus smiled a bit, he remembered his father taking him to the statues in the city of Midas chronicling the great deeds of Colchian soldiers. Maximus was enthralled by their stories and wanted to be like them one day. He didn't realize all the training and all of the discipline would lead him to do menial tasks most of the time. Maximus thought that doing menial tasks during training would prepare him for the marathon of battles like in the story.
"Perhaps the stories need to start detailing the amount of menial tasks a solider is required to do," Maximus said with a shrug. "Start singing songs about Demisticles the fruit peeler."
Maximus was still fiercely loyal to the kingdom of Colchis, it's just that sometimes he felt spending the majority of the time doing tasks that ordinary citizens can do is a waste of his talents. Maleous and Maximus continued to walk towards the middle of the marketplace. As he looked around, Maximus noticed Maleous had his eye on a certain shop. Maximus recognized the merchant, he would sell books from far away kingdoms though at a high price. Maximus stood at a soldier's attention, as Maleous conversed with the merchant. He thought about the old African and his question: "Who are you?"
He was a Maximus a soldier of Colchis: Loyal, honorable and brave. But Maximus could tell based off the eyes of the African that he knew there was doubt in him. Maximus wanted to connect with his lost family roots, he wanted to know who were they and what they've done to incur the wrath of Poisiden. His family line will end with him due to the curse which rendered Maximus unable to have children. His entire family is tight lipped about the circumstances surrounding the curse, maybe this old African had the answers? Maximus doesn't know but it was frustrating.
"Apologies, I can not pass up the opportunity for a good story." Maleous said snapping Maximus out from his trance. "Of course," Maximus smiled. "You would stop your entire unit's march to buy a book and read it from cover to cover." Maximus was aware of Maleous love for reading. If he wasn't fighting, he had his face in a book.
"We have nearly walked the entire market. There is yet nothing that holds your interest?" Maleous said.
"Nothing much," Maximus said. "I usually come to the marketplace to clear my head."

Maleos nearly laughed at the others comment about Demisticles the fruit peeler, almost. A laugh from Maleos was even rarer than a smile, but he had to admit he did enjoy that comment. And it rang true. Though there was combat, a lot of the time the lower rank soldiers spent their time with busy work. Things that needed to get done, but could have been completed by anyone really. It was just part of being in the military, combat wasn’t constant, and the men needed to be put to use. At least for men like Maximus, the idle work was physical. Maleos was often stuck with letter writing or forming tactical plans or something equally as boring that saw him stuck inside for hours at a time. Though he did not complain to the other man of such things. They were speaking casually compared to normal, but that did not mean he was about to get that casual with him. Timaeus was the only person who had ever seen Maleos fully drop formalities, and that was when it was just the two of them on their own.
Maleos knew the man exaggerated his love for books a bit, obviously he would not actually stop his men’s march in order to buy and read a book, but it as an accurate exaggeration none the less. He did have a great love for books, and found it very hard to pass up on the chance to gain a new story of bravery and valor. He hoped one day there would be a young man like himself who would stop and buy a book from a merchant, and the book would contain tales of Maleos, the brave and honourable man from Eubocris. It was his goal, the reason he did everything he had done and the reason he had worked so hard. He did not want to be forgotten as so many of common blood were. Washed away with time from the memories of those who had once known them. Maleos would make his mark on history, and his name would never be forgotten.
He realized he had been a little lost in thought as he pondered what the stories would say about him when they were written, but he managed to catch Maximus’ next words and hoped he did not notice his distraction from their conversation. His face had remained its’ usual serious demeanor, so he did not think that there was any indication that he had gotten lost in his own world for a few moments. And as far as Maleos could tell, he had not missed any discussion.
“I suppose that our conversation has not aided you in clearing your head. You are not required to walk with me, if you have other matters to attend to, or simply wish to be on your own. I will not take offense to it, as I more than most understand the desire to be without company for a time.” Maleos said, it wasn’t that he wanted to get rid of Maximus, though he had dreaded a discussion at first, he found himself not minding a casual conversation. It was merely a way to give the other man an opening to exit the conversation and continue on with his day if he so wished. He knew it could sometimes be hard to find a polite way to excuse yourself from a conversation with someone of higher rank or title than yourself. The need to come across as respectful often overwrote your desire to end a conversation. Maleos himself had found himself trapped with a higher ranking military member or even someone of noble blood, with no way to excuse himself.

Maximus raised an eyebrow at Maleos' statement, what the old man said to Maximus had him in a bit of a daze but Maximus didn't want to have it interfere with conversing with an old friend. To be distracted into arguing with a man he didn't even know cut time Maximus could have had conversing with friends and family. The young man cursed himself for losing focus this easily it wasn't like him. Why dwell on trivial matters especially when it interferes with the people you care about?
Perhaps it did eat at Maximus, that the old African was right in that Maximus didn't have a firm grasp in who he is. Nevertheless, Maximus had family and friends to reassure him of his identity. Can the old African say the same? Does he have family of his own? If so, why go out and mess with people's minds. In truth, the old African was nothing more than a distraction a distraction that Maximus needs to squash out if he were to succeed in his goals. Too many times people get distracted with insignificant things rather than the things that can help them live a fulfilling life.
"I'm fine Maleos really I am," Maximus said forcing a smile. "I could show you where the Fifth Phalanx's barracks if you like?"

Maleos was not sure he believed the words that Maximus spoke. He seemed distracted to say the least, but he also seemed to insist that he did not want to be alone to ponder over what ever it was that was bothering him. Maleos supposed it was politeness, a curse that has afflicted many men. If people need not be polite to anyone, a lot of time could be saved from being wasted. Unfortunately, politeness was a requirement for anyone who wished to hold any sort of respect, and so it meant that men such as Maximus would insist on being not distracted, though it was clear that he was. Sometimes Maleos found the way society was to be very odd, though he too was a victim of being polite, and had spent many hours wasted on conversation with people above his station simply because it would be considered rude for him to dismiss himself.
Or perhaps Maximus genuinely wanted to spend more time with the Captain. Maybe Maleos was being too quick to judge. Either way his reply to Maximus' offer would be the same.
He gave a nod, not having any more interest in the market currently, he had walked the entire thing and purchased the only thing that even sort of interested him, and besides that he was getting a little tired of the crowds of people. He would be happy to leave, even if it was to go and see more people. At least the ones he was going to see were men of the military, he had much more in common interests wise with them than he did with probably anyone walking the market in Midas that day. Though he came from a common background, his interests tended to be completely different than those of similar backgrounds.
"I can stop by and say a quick hello, and then I should be getting back to my own men. I have drills planned."
He would follow Maximus out of the market, his plan was just to greet the men that Maximus worked with, and then take his leave. He was sure it would not be the last time that Maximus and he ran into each other, though it was likely that their next meeting would be a much more formal one, and Maximus would need to go back to calling him Captain. A thing which it seemed neither men minded.

"I can stop by and say a quick hello, and then I should be getting back to my own men. I have drills planned."
Maximus crossed his arms in contemplation, an idea was starting to form in his head. Maximus knew that the men of the Fifth Phalanx were starting to become restless due to the lack of action at home. A third of the unit were still fighting off the Barbarians and will be returning home soon. Colchian military were always like a brotherhood, they remain competitive and they push one another in order to remain a disciplined army. Why else were Colchian soldiers considered to be the toughest in all of Greece?
"I have an idea," Maximus said getting close to Maleous. "We can have a sparring match in the barracks." Maximus shrugged. "We can teach each other techniques we've learned during our training. It'll keep us sharp and prepared for any danger that befells us."
Maximus smiled. "So Captain of the Men of Heights," he said. "What do you say?"

Maleos listened to the other man's suggestion. A sparring match. That definitely piqued his interest, any kind of spar no matter what rank the man he sparred with, was something he was definitely interested in. He knew that the drills with his own unit weren't very important, it was more something to keep his men active and practicing rather than idle.
"I do not see a reason why I would not be able to come and spar for awhile. It may be good for your fellow soldiers to learn a little something from me. I will need to speak to your commanding officer first, I do not need to step on any toes, but I do not see why he would have an issue with it." He replied after he had taken a minute to think about it.
"Come then, let us return to your unit." He said, turning to follow Maximus back towards where his phalanx was stationed. He was already running combat routines through his head as the two men left the market to pursue other entertainment for the day.
