The taverns of Teangea weren't normally his usual places to haunt on his downtime. Then again, it wasn't often that he visited Vasiliadon anymore. Having arrived toward sundown, he had figured it would not be appropriate to bother his friend in the capitol until the next morning. Of course, he was not just here to visit Achilleas on one of his rarer excursions to the capitol, but he was also here on military business. Having left his fiance home, he had made the journey on his own, intent that the visit wouldn't take him any more than a few days at the very most.
The trek into the city wasn't difficult, and finding hi favorite tavern also wasn't difficult. Tried and true, it was where it had always been. Not one to drink to excess or extreme, Krysto did enjoy drinking and gambling from time to time. That wasn't to say that he was inherently good at gambling, but it was fun, nevertheless. And the man could hold his drink if he was really good about it.
Dressed in the more casual garb of a commoner rather than a military man, Krysto stepped into the tavern and inn, walking up to the counter and paying for his room. Given his key, he trekked up the stairs and threw his pack down on the bed before exiting and locking the door behind him. He had no intention of carrying his amor with him, and the only things of value that he took with him, his money, he took with him back into the tavern.
There, he paid for a hot meal and a pitcher of wine, noting that there weren't really any open tables to sit at. Not really bothered, he found himself looking for the one that was least occupied compared to the others and strode over. He said nothing, initially, as he sat down across from at least one man, though he didn't exactly pay attention to who was there to begin with.
Setting his plate of food down, he looked up at the man that was directly across from him at the table. "There weren't really any other seats," he excused himself, "I hope you're not saving this seat for someone," his voice held a bit of amusement, but his tone was more friendly than anything. That friendliness was joined with a calm smile. A smile that told those around him he really wasn't a threat. That was... unless someone actually wanted to start something.
At least he'd been polite about it.

Usually, Teangea was just a quick stop between other places more important to Adrestus, but this time restocking the ship was taking longer than expected. Some things they thought would be at the port…. Hadn't gotten there yet. For Sokari and Adrestus, that meant they would be in Tangea for a bit, and although it was a little disappointing, Adrestus wasn't complaining too much. There were still things to do, people to socialize with, and drinks to be had. Ever since Timeaus left to become a baron of his province, things on the seas were different, but at least Sokari was still with him to have his back. What Adrestus was planning to do was to drink into the night with Sokari, but… once they were in the city, Sokari found that he had more bodily needs. Adrestus still only wanted to drink, so they parted ways for the night, and the Athenian sailor walked towards the taverns. He was a bit sad he'd be alone but… not enough to let it get in the way of his time.
A grin on his face Adrestus entered one of Teange's taverns. He wasn't wearing much to let the other's around him know that he was a noble, and instead looked very much like he had spent the last couple weeks at sea. His shirt was slightly dirty, as if he hadn't actually had much time to get it cleaned. After the day he had had in hearing that their plans weren't going the way they had wanted it to, all he could think about was having a drink. Adrestus sat down, his posture straight and ordered what he had been longing for ever since he had gotten off his ship. He was even happier with a glass in his hand, and was beginning to enjoy himself finally. He didn't take any mind to the man who sat near him, other than glancing quickly at him before looking away. The tavern looked pretty crowded, and he already assumed that the empty seat would be taken quickly. However, he was amused that the man sitting next to him looked pretty… nice. Not that Adrestus would do something with a stranger, especially knowing the taboos, but it was good in Adrestus's book to have a fine-looking man sitting next to him.
His grin grew to a smile as the other man spoke, and Adrestus shrugged at him. "You can have that seat, absolutely." It wasn't like Adrestus would be a person to tell a good looking man to go away. Yes, he was still involved with Saro, but…. Adrestus wasn't banned from enjoying the view, right? "No I'm not saving it for anyone, my friend left me for more important things" He rolled his eyes slowly before smiling back at Krysto. Essential things like women. He mirrored Krysto's friendly manner, taking his hand and reaching over to shake the other's in greeting. "Adrestus." He spoke his name, already wondering what the other man's name was. "Are you with anyone here? I'm planning on drinking and relaxing… maybe gambling, if that's where the night goes…" Adrestus trailed off in thought, before looking back to Krysto. "I'd be interested in some company." It wasn't a problem for Adrestus to be social, and how Krysto was looking Adre already assumed the man wouldn't be opposed to company himself.

Krysto took to tucking into his food, realizing that he was rather hungry after the journey into the city. The only thing that would have made this better would have been to have found Achilleas. The two could drink and talk the night away, catch up where they may have become lost in translation. They always seemed to be on the same wavelength, so he wasn't worried about that. Sometimes he really just missed his best friend, even if they'd seen each other days or weeks before. Krysto and Achilleas had a connection akin to that of brothers.
But the captain stayed in the tavern, giving the man across from him a pleasant smile. Putting his cup of wine down, he reached his hand across the table for Adrestus to shake. "Captain Krysto," he introduced himself lightly, glancing around the bar. Maybe he'd see someone he recognized, but that wasn't true. He was actually here alone.
Why did that seem so pitiful?
Taking another sip of his drink so that he could clear his mouth out of food, he set the cup back down and relaxed back into his seat. "I'm here alone. I've just come up from Euttica to visit the city on military business," Krysto said lightly, shrugging, "But I have no plans for the night." He really didn't. He had just planned on eating and going to bed, maybe he'd catch a round of gambling, but that was about it. There wasn't much to do until he had to leave in the morning for his meeting. Thus, he had found himself with the entier night off, which was rather strange for the Captain. There were few times in his life where there weren't constant expectations settled on his shoulders.
A night of relaxation.
He'd take it.
"Aye," Krysto hummed toward Adrestus, "I wouldn't mind some company myself. Where did you come from, Adrestus? Are you Taengean or are you from another Kingdom?" the man asked casually, silently wanting to get to know this man a little more just in case he ended up being trouble later on. Unlikely, seeing as the kid seemed to have his head on his shoulders, but one never really knew. He supposed if there was trouble, the reports from the Order would tell him. If all went well, there wouldn't be trouble. Though, Krysto had to chastise himself for constantly assuming the worst in people.

Adrestus was in a pretty good mood as he entered the tavern. He was stressed with business and stocking his ship, but otherwise, things were going well. Adrestus took a seat, ordering what he was craving in that moment - a drink. Thankfully, Tangea’s taverns were pretty good, and he wasn’t worried about his order being disappointing. The tavern was pretty crowded, and he didn’t complain that the seat next to him quickly filled. He couldn’t help but look at the man who sat down- he was quite good looking and seemed friendly enough. Adrestus smiled over at Krysto as he introduced himself, and the sailor nodded, before reaching and shaking his hand back. “Well, nice to meet you, Captain Krysto.” He spoke, looking genuinely happy. Adrestus glanced over at the man before turning back to his drink. He took a couple more sips, before turning back to listen to Krysto’s next words. “Ah, military business.” Adrestus himself didn’t have much planned that night either- especially since he didn’t know many in Tangea. But then, Krysto seemed interesting… so perhaps he’d be able to have some fun in Tangea after all?
He smiled towards Krysto as he asked him where he was from, and the sailor shook his head. “I am from Athenia,” he smiled, watching his reaction. “I have been sailing around the world for several years and have been to practically all the kingdoms.” He spoke, not seeing why he shouldn’t tell Krysto this. “I am starting to stay more in Geek kingdoms because I have a feeling my parents are going to want me to settle down in Athenia soon enough. Since… I’m a noble and heir to my family’s line… and all that.” Adrestus slightly rolled eyes at it, as if the fact that he was a noble was an inconvenience. Which, to Adrestus, it was. It meant he wasn’t going to be able to do what he wanted and to do things he wasn’t interested in as Baron. “For now, I want to be able to do what I want as much as I can, you know?” He confessed, before drinking from his glass once more.
“I’m in Tangea right now because I’m stocking my ship, as a short answer, though.” Ships were work to maintain, so it wasn’t something that could be ignored. It was expected to be a quick trip, though Adrestus wasn't dumb enough to be surprised if it took more time then Adre wanted. Adrestus sipped more, before looking over at Krysto. “Have you ever gambled before?”

Krysto was pleased with how polite the man before him was. He seemed inclined to smile and chat him up, and that was something that Krysto appreciated. Too many times, he had come into one of these taverns and dealt with grumpy sailors of men who just had no interest in pleasant conversation. Of course, Krysto himself had gotten into his share of fights, his own temperament sometimes too much for people to handle. He wouldn't take blame for something that really wasn't his fault.
If drunken men wanted to throw a bunch, he could at least throw one or two back.
But this was already far more refreshing. Taking a slow, measured sip of his drink, Krysto took his time in observing the man before him. He seemed sweet, kind even. Adventurous? Absolutely. Krysto certainly hadn't been to every Kingdom in the world, even the ones that were much further than their reach. The Northern lands and such? They extended far above his own reach, nor did he truly have any interest. A military man by choice, trade, and nature, war was not something he looked forward to. Peace was the only thing he truly fought for.
Tilting his head, he nodded sagely when the boy mentioned his status as a noble, even lifting his eyebrow slightly. "So you mean to tell me that you're a noble who shirks his duties in favor of sailing around the world?" he asked slowly, his tone serious but his smile big. "You've got some balls on you, then. I could hardly get my parents to agree to me joining the military, and I'm not a noble," he commented with a slight laugh to his voice.
Draining the rest of his mug, he shrugged, "I think everyone wants to be able to do whatever they want. Not everyone gets the chance," he noted, thinking about Achilleas. Shaking his head a little, shrugged his shoulders. "I've gambled a time or two," he noted. Or a lot. But Adrestus didn't need to know that. it was best to keep some secrets close to the chest and see the surprise on his face when everything was said and done and Krysto showed himself to be more experienced than he let on.
Clearing his throat, he motioned to the center of the table. "Are you proposing we start a game?"

Adrestus looked over to the man as he spoke, and shook his head. Sure, one could say that he was getting away with a lot more then most people were, and for that Adre considered himself blessed. He let out a laugh as Krysto spoke, and gave the other a shrug. “I do believe that I am very lucky. I’ve been called unresponsible before, but it’s not like my parents gave me any duties anyways? They’ve never really told me what I should be doing… yet anyways. So I don’t count that as shrinking away from them. I consider that…. you know, just not asking for anything more. Technically speaking, it’s my father who is not being responsible” He continued to speak, before drinking more liquid from his glass. He nodded at the other’s next words and smoothed his hair over with his hand. “Of course. I owe my parents a lot.” He paused. “Honestly, when my parents do start asking things of me, I will do everything to make them happy, just like they have made me.” It was one way to get loyalty from a son. “Random question, though, what made you want to go into the military?” He could probably guess, but there might be some story behind it.
Adrestus grinned when the other man said that he gambled, and a playfulness gleam sparked in his eyes. Well, he had the time. “I have a couple of times myself,” Adrestus responded lowly, finishing off his drink and ordering another. He smiled. “Yes, that’s what I am proposing.” Adrestus agreed, before watching the other’s next move. “Of course, if you are up to it?” Adrestus had money and the time- it wouldn’t be any trouble to gamble right there and then. Of course, it was always a risk… but Adre was one for them. It gave his life thrill and that is what the sailor craved. The higher the stakes, the more his blood started to pump and his heartbeat quickened. Some could say that he spent a lot of his years chasing that kind of thrill that not many wanted to even deal with. But it was all fun for the sailor. “Also, I just want to do this merely for fun… nothing is quite serious when I’m involved.” He smiled, hoping it’d be a light-hearted game…. Since sometimes gambling could become quite cut throat. It took the thrill out of it, and it just got tedious. No- it would be a game between, well, friends. Or, Adrestus already assumed they would become friends, as their conversation had been friendly so far.

Krysto was a bold man when he wanted to be. With men, he often spoke his mind, especially because of the position he had long taken as best friend to a lord. A lord who sometimes needed a pep talk or a dose of reality that he could not comprehend himself. Krysto, for the moment, smiled at the thought of Lord Achilleas, feeling that same compassionate connection toward his friend that he had felt his entire life. If rumors had ever taken a poor direction, someone might have assumed that Lord Achilleas and Krysto were entangled into something less than proper together.
But Krysto had Eurydice and Achilleas had Theodora. It was hard to believe something such as that when they were both very much in love with their woman of choice.
The question about why he joined the military didn't throw Krysto off. In fact, he merely smiled at the man for a moment. "Well, that was a rather simple choice. My father is a rather famous physician in Taengea," Krysto noted, "A wealthy one. I have... many siblings, but I am the youngest of them. Eight siblings, to be exact," he hummed carefully, "And many of them took on artistic or medicinal pursuits. I could not find it in myself to follow the same path. I have a physician's training, but I wanted to join the military because it did not call to me the way it called to most of my brothers. I was young when I joined the military. My father bribed my brothers out of their service and I refused the same treatment because I wanted to perform my duties. I've spent my entire life serving Taengea in both its military and The Order of Vasiliadon," he finished with a shrug, finding it increasingly easy to be chatty with the man before him.
"I think I'd like a game, actually. Its been a long time since I had any good people to play against. The pirates get a little too heated when I catch them cheating and have to turn them in for theft," Krysto said with a playful grin. "I think a good, easy game between the two of us would be nice. Perhaps a smaller bet just for posterity-sake?" he questioned lightly, reaching down for his coin purse and waving the bartender over for another drink.
