She had spent dozens upon dozens of moments thinking about what it may be like to kiss him. Selene may have been chaste with limited experience, but that did not mean she didn't want him in that way (even if she wasn't wholly sure what that wanting really was). Boys had tried to kiss her in her youth, when manners were forgotten and hormones were raging. But they never got very far, as she reminded them of their place and seldom let herself get into situations where she would regret her choices later on. Her mother had always placed an importance on her virginity, that a King would require assurance that a child was his. That was easiest done by waiting, by resisting temptation until there was a man worthy of her.
Vangelis was more than worthy, and it had nothing to do with his title. She was certain he would be a just ruler, a kind father and a good husband. He was everything her father wanted for her in a spouse. His title of Crown Prince would insure her uncle’s agreement to the wedding. But she was not marrying him because he would be a King. It might have been what everyone assumed, but there was far more to it than that. And it brought her peace to know that it was not only a match that her family would approve of, but a match that would bring her happiness.
She felt cherished in his embrace, even though he had made no comment as to his own feelings on the matter. There wasn't just desire in his gaze, but also… something she couldn't quite place. But it made her feel warm, and there was little she could do to think on it now as his mouth descended onto hers. Her eyes fluttered closed with the same exact softness of his initial kiss. It was light, and she wasn't honestly sure that he had kissed her at all. He gave her no time to open her eyes, her breath stuck in her throat as he dipped down for another.
This one was firmer, and this time, she found herself melting against him. She wasn't sure how much he knew of the night his father returned, but the last time she'd felt his lips on her, they had been cold. Lifeless. There had been no passion in her actions and she breathed life into him. The horrible memory of his death had haunted her, but the heat of his kiss, of his touch on her cheeks very warm and real was doing much to erase the pain. Her head was tilted up, glad that he had bent down low enough that she didn't need to step onto her toes for it. Selene was having a hard time remembering a moment that brought her as much joy as this.
She wasn't sure who pulled away first, nor did she know how much time had passed since he leaned in for that first kiss. But as his head lifted from her, it took her a moment to open her eyes, to realize it had ended.
There was a warmth in her core, knowing that she would spend the rest of her life learning just how perfect his kisses could be.
Her hand moved to cover the one on her check, leaning into the motion with a blissful sigh. ”Will you promise me something?” She asked quietly, her voice taking on a new husky tone. There was little pause, leaving him unable to answer her. ”Will you bring me here, as often as we are able? Even if it is just for a few moments?” She was looking forward to their life together, to being on Colchis together and happy.

Selene's kiss was hardly what one would consider to be so. A woman of limited experience and true virginity - of that Vangelis was confident - her lips moved with an essence of surrender. They became pliant to his, allowing his mouth to dictate just how the kiss moved and moulded... how it formed and undulated with the warmth of life and affection. Whilst he was the director of their exchange and his own lips the commander of their kiss, Selene melted into her own side of it, becoming a soft and wonderous recipient to the slight and gentle coaxing he had to offer.
As a simmering of desire began in his lower belly, lighting through his thighs and chasing away any chill in his chest from the mountain air, Vangelis felt the temptation to take from her deeper, to enter her mouth with his tongue and stoke the passions he was feeling awaken to see just how bright they could burn.
But self-control overruled and Vangelis did not push their first, mutual engagement so far. He neither wished to force the moment nor scare the woman by slaking lusts that he had time enough to explore. Instead, he moved his head back and allowed their kiss to be as simple and innocent as that; a first kiss.
With his jaw a little slack, his breathing deep and his eyes of slumberous focus, Vangelis watched as Selene withdrew of their kiss also, her eyes opening and her lips pulling back into a smile that made her appear almost childlike. It sent her cheeks rounder, her eyes brighter and had her joy painted upon every feature.
When she asked him if he would promise her something, she gave him no chance to immediately reply barring the soft lilt of his thumb across her cheekbone - a silent encouragement to say what she wished. A wish that turned out to be the request to return to this place as often as was possible. Her words already painted them as a married couple and her thoughts clearly turned to how they would form memories moving forwards.
Hoping that he would not dash such wants in his near constant time away from the city and his kingdom, handling conflict in the north, Vangelis pushed aside all negative doubt, determined to keep the atmosphere of this moment light.
His lips curled into his side smile and his eyes never left hers as he offered her mirth in return for her candour.
"You have a sudden nostalgic penchant for damp, salty air and the call of sea birds?" He asked her with amusement, his words timed to perfectly coincide with a squawking from a nearby bird of prey that had nested in the cervices not far to the east.

She would have gone further with him, and would have explored the new sensation within the core of her being. She trusted him fully, and with the knowledge that they would be wed soon, it was easy for her to let down her guard and allow him to take what would be his anyway. But he stopped, and she was glad for that, too. It was overwhelming, knowing that he wanted her for his wife. And while she had told herself she would be able to leave without looking back, but knowing that she didn't have to took a relieved weight off her shoulders. Selene could stay, could live out her days here with him. She was getting everything she wanted.
The eldest Leventi stared up at him, wondering what he would look like with grey in his hair and wrinkles around his eyes. Would he still want her then? Would he love her by then? He had not made any mention of his own feelings towards her, but the look on his face now only reassured her that he wanted her for the woman she was. And he may not love her now, but maybe he could one day.
His comment made her laugh, a soft bubble of mirth that intermixed with the birds. ”I grew up on an island, Vangelis. Those are some of my most favorite things.” Her soul felt light as she leaned into him, enjoying the newfound appreciation for the affection he was showing her. ”I am not a fool,” she said, her hand releasing the fabric of his shirt and pressing flat against his chest. ”I know you will often be gone, much like your father. But I want to come here, even if only to have a moment alone with you.” Even if it was rare, she wanted the promise.
She wanted any and all moments she could get with him.
Her cheeks flushed, the sudden realization that her emotions were becoming more and more obvious with comments like that. But she didn't wish to hide it from him. She would keep the words to herself, but she would continue to be herself with him like this. ”I am honored that you want a future with me. And, in case you need the words, I want nothing more than to be your wife and Queen.”
It felt good to say it.

It felt strange to hold Selene as he was doing... How she came in close, her hand and arm rested upon his chest and her frame becoming reliant upon his. His arms had naturally fallen into a loose halo around her waist, his hands resting without power or deliberate touch upon her hips. Previously seeing her always as a friend, it was almost bizarre to have her play the lover now. Yet, beneath the oddity of it - or perhaps because of the foreign feel of it all - there was a soft zing of excitement and arousal pulsing beneath the surface. The sort a child might feel when doing something they knew to be wrong but also something they desired enough to try for regardless.
His expression remaining stoic when she mentioned his father and the prolonged absences that both he and the king were a part of so frequently, Vangelis was thankful that she understood without him having to say so. Yes, he was offering Selene - the woman - a union with him as a man. But only a fool would focus solely on the concept of a normal husband and wife scenario in their future; in any future that Vangelis had with any woman. He was to be king. Which meant an entirely different set of rules.
Rules that Selene was already aware of, to a certain extent, because of her knowledge of Colchis and her desire to learn about him, his family and his kingdom's ways.
When she turned the statement around and bargained with him that, regardless of how rare a time he might spend in his home, she wished that he would take the opportunity whenever he could to ride with her up to this view and spent a while enjoying what Colchis had to offer - not to mention each other's company - Vangelis simply looked down into her gaze and offered a solemn nod.
"I can make such a vow." He told her with a soft line to his mouth and a warmth to his eyes that he wasn't entirely aware were there.
When she talked of laying out her feelings and hopes for the future without restraint, Vangelis felt a curling warmth in the vicinity of his heart. Not one to accept flattery or praise for he knew that most that spoke it were simply attempting to woo or sway the crown prince of the kingdom... there was something unique and very real when Selene said it. The idea that she would see a union with him as an honour over a trial and as something she wished for rather than something she had been prepared to accept by her family and their ambitions for her future marriage... It drew upon something very human in Vangelis that hadn't ever seemed to be there before.
Taking a step back at her assurance and drawing his hands from her waist to her arms, down her forearms and to her hands, Vangelis held them together between them and, with a light in his eye, bent in a bow to press a tender kiss to the backs of her united fingers. He then looked up with an expression of sincerity.
"Then our hopes for the future are mutual and I shall write to your father and uncle."

It was odd how quickly she felt like she had found the other piece to her puzzle. And it felt natural to rest against him, to place her hand upon him in ownership. Now, she could claim him, without reservations or pause. He was hers, and she was his. And she was looking forward to what that would mean. She knew he was a serious man, who Emilia liked to remind lacked smiles or joy. But Selene knew better. And she knew that each upturned corner of his mouth was a joy to see. And, from what she had experienced in their time together, he saved them for those he cared about.
She was happy to be considered part of that group.
While this may have felt wrong for him in some ways, it felt wholly right to her. The way he looked at her felt as if it was how she should have always been looked upon. The fire of his touch on her waist only made her wish to know him more, wondering what it would feel like against the bare skin. She knew she had desires, but they had always been kept in the quiets of her heart, for fear of appearing to brazen. Now that he knew, now that she was his, perhaps it wasn’t so bad to allow herself to give in a little. To enjoy the warmth in her abdomen at the feel of his lips on hers.
His vow, given without hesitation, made her smile. Perhaps it had been done for a duel purpose-- if this was one of his favorite places, making the promise to visit it with her would allow him the chance to spend time there for himself. Even if it was under the guise of being something for her, Vangelis deserved time to enjoy the kingdom, too. But she knew she would want every chance to remember this moment, to remember the frank and honest way in which he proposed. To think about the joy in her heart at becoming his wife. And he sealed his intentions to write her family with a tender kiss to her hands.
Gods, could he not see the obvious love in her eyes?
And she hoped he understood the importance of the order in which she agreed. Selene would be his wife first, as she saw Queen as just a benefit of being in love with him. For she was certain that even if he was the second son, she would have loved him and would have agreed to the union. ”Waiting for their response will be a test of patience, to be certain.” She didn’t know her heart could feel so light, her mind so certain-- how was it possible to know with such certainty what was desired? And yet, she did. Her place was next to him. She just hoped that she would do as much justice to the Kotas name and Yanni had.
”We probably should head back. I would rather scale the side of that mountain while there is still light in the sky.” She said sheepishly, hoping he didn’t think any less of her as a rider for her admittance.

When Selene spoke of how awaiting a reply from her family over the idea of their marriage would be a test of patience, he was hesitant to speak of the natural guilt in his stomach when he couldn't admit the same. His schedule was so busy now that he was back to being a crown prince, while also transferring his duties and responsibilities back to his father... He couldn't admit that such a delay in messages from her uncle and father wouldn't lighten his work load. Yet... Even with such thoughts of practicality, he could not deny the little flicker of impatient desire at the idea of settling the union between Selene and himself. To finally draw the firm line of their advancement from friendship to lovers.
With her comments of moving back down the mountain whilst it was still light, Vangelis showed none of the feared judgment over her abilities and instead only appreciated her logic and rationality. Looking out for a moment as the sun appeared to disintegrate into the sea's horizon in a spreading texture of orange and pinks, he felt a moment of security, of progress... Of the future of Colchis.
"Come." He told Selene, his hands guiding her to her ride before letting her go so that he might mount his own steed. "We'll return now."
And with a soft smile, he led his future wife back down the path he had guided them up and across the fields to what would soon become their marital home...
