The proceedings of the evening after the Pharaoh entered the back room where the Queen had been taken went by in a bit of a blur. Before Kissan knew it, Narmer was joining him at the door and instructing him to help usher the remaining guests from the residence. Following his uncle's directions without question, Kissan assisted in rounding up stray members of nobility whose alcohol intake had prevented them from heeding the earlier warnings to leave and soon he was standing on the far side of the door across from his uncle bidding the final guests goodbye. One or two courtesans were among the stragglers, still hoping for juicy gossip on the queen.
They shot pouty faces at Kissan as they left and he gave a long suffering sigh and amused smile to them as they disappeared into the night and he helped his uncle close the door. His uncle's words, while not wholly surprising, did catch Kissan off guard. He wasn't sure he appreciated the chastising tone in Narmer's voice. He wasn't a boy anymore. It seemed time for his uncle to stop treating him as one.
"Some of them." he said slowly before crossing his arms and facing his uncle. "Do you know all the ladies you were speaking to tonight?" he asked with a youthful amusement to his voice.

He had frown as he and Kissan got to work, a necessary task since his saraaya was severely understaffed at the moment. For the night's festivities, Narmer had contracted a few people from the nearby town to work for just one night, but even those had spooked after what had happened when the young Queen had fainted, that the nitty gritty tasks now fell to uncle and nephew as they herded the people out under the pharoah's stern orders.
As caught up as he may be with the task however, that did not mean Narmer would miss the subtle looks certain courtesan's sent him, and the elder Haikaddad raised a brow at his nephew at the vague answer Kissan gave him, doubt in his gaze.
The doors closed with a resounding click, as the man slid the locks back in place, and knowing that the room still held the fainted form of the young Queen, a very unhappy pharoah, the poor physician he had sent in along with Osorsen himself, Narmer held little interest in venturing back in. So instead, he turned to his nephew, look of wryness still etched in his face, along with smile now. "Not all. But it is my job as host to be cordial and welcoming to them all." Narmer himself kept his answers evasive, even when he had nothing to hide.Sure, the man had partook in his fair share of pretty women, but all of them had been wenches and paid for, as he made sure not to dally with any in the nobility, a lesson Narutt had thoroughly taught him.
Now, the man wondered if his brother passed down the same lesson to his son. Waving a hand for Kissan to come with him, Narmer began to pick his way back as the handful of servants they still had came out to start clearing up the mess left behind by their guests. Among them, he could see his sister in law, who he had informed on her daughter's whereabouts. But for the most part, Narmer kept his attention on Kissan as they strolled back to the main building of the saraaya. "How did you get to know them, Kissan?"

But for the most part, Narmer kept his attention on Kissan as they strolled back to the main building of the saraaya. "How did you get to know them, Kissan?"
"Ah" Kissan responded to Narmer's answer with a knowing grin and obediently followed along with his uncle's direction as the man began to wander back and absently direct servants accordingly.
Kissan for all his bluff had never actually lain with a woman but he felt little need to concede that fact to family or friends alike. His thoughts briefly floated back to the beautiful creature who graced Cairo's more seedy district. Deshra. He had not had the funds to fully explore what time with her could truly mean but he'd been able to take her out for excursion or two. He knew this, she still set his heart to flutter and so far exceeded the beauty of the courtesans he had seen this evening that it was not even a fair contest.
He wondered briefly if the war would take him from her and noted that that would be his one regret if he was to be swept up in this great fortune. Still blessings came with sacrifices and what better situation could he come back to her with if he could gain the fame he sought?
Kissan smiled broadly as his uncle asked him how he'd come to know the ladies fawning over him this evening. "Come now Uncle, I am the heir of a Hei, is it not expected to maintain strong relationships with our fellow nobles?"
Letting the comment sit a moment before following up with a shrug. "We were kids together. Its nothing. They just think they can bat their eyes and get their way. They want gossip. You know how it is. They're nothing." he assured before picking up a stray piece of decoration and wrapping it up around his hand to throw in the burn pile. He did not realize the severity with which he had dismissed them nor what that may indicate to Narmer in regards to just what his current sights were on.
Being just a young child when his father had passed, there had not been a time when the late heir had been able to pass on wisdom in regards to the fairer sex. His mother had tried to dance around the subject and Kissan had teased and joked with his sisters about topic but no true instruction had been given. His friends bragged and gave their own tips of course but Kissan knew they were mostly full of hot air like he was.

His and Kissan's relationship had always been one that was more friend's then senior and junior. Raised by Narutt as well when their parents died an early death, Narmer and Kissan's age was not that far apart. It only made it all the more weird when he returned and suddenly had to take upon the mantle of caregiver and superior instead of resuming his role as a friend and someone to commiserate with, and up till today, Narmer was still finding a way to tread that path. He somewhat missed the camraderie he had felt with his nephew, something he now has to consciously push back, if only to assert his power as the leader of a Hei. As it was, too many within the Egyptian court wondered if he could do a good job with a failing Hei.
But for now, perhaps he could allow things to briefly be as they were, back when he was simply Uncle, and not the leader of his house, and the one they all depended upon for their next meal as well as the longevity of their home.
Nodding sagely as if he saw the wisdom in Kissan's words, the man flashed an amused smile at his nephew, and raised a brow. "Nothing? Of course." He murmured, but nothing in his tone indicated that he actually believed the young man. Narmer's own thoughts flitted back to the time when Narutt had caught him trying to sneak out past midnight, with a pocketful of coin and no explanation he could give as to what he was going to use that coin for. Of course, it took his elder brother little to get the younger Haikaddad to spill the beans.
Which made the man pause. Had anyone ever spoken to his nephew about the affairs between man and woman? He doubted his sister-in-law would take such matters in her own hand. Na'meah had been flustered ever since he had returned and she's had to reveal the severity of their financial situation to him. It had practically been all she could be thinking about... but at Kissan's age, it should be about the time.
Clearing his throat, the man wracked his brain to try and remember how Narutt had brought the topic out to him, before deciding to just go with it. "They may be... nothing. But do you give them... y'know, something?" he asked, a hint of awkwardness as he looked at his nephew from the corner of his eye.

Kissan for his part had found his Uncles return a challenging road to walk. There were times, such as now, when things seemed okay and normal between them. When the relationship that had been did not seem so distant. And then there were others when Narmer seemed so focused on proving himself and making his word law in this house that Kissan could barely tolerate the facade of it all. Thankfully now was not one of THOSE times and Kissan was appreciating the banter, even if the topic was a bit embarrassing.
Narmer obviously didn't believe his dismissal of the court girls but it was no matter. They truly meant nothing to him compared to she who held his heart.
Kissan paused and narrowed his eyes slightly at his Uncle's next question. What in Ra's name did he mean? "No..?" Kissan said slowly before tilting his head. "What could I give them? We have nothing" Kissan asked with a laugh before shaking his head and picking up a random article of clothing that appeared to have been discarded and eyed it with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh! I think I might have given one a preserved date or two" he said with a slight grin as he glanced back at his Uncle. "She said she was hungry, never seen someone so disappointed in a date..." Kissan shrugged and handed off the stray piece of clothing to a passing servant.

He had wanted to dote on his nephew and nieces, he really did. Before the tragedy that had befallen his brother, Narmer had fully intended to be that uncle who waltzed in their lives every few months with gifts and cuddles and playtime with wooden sword, before he went off to do his duty as a military man, leaving Narutt to handle the familial side of things. That had fully been his intention, but the Gods always had different plans for him, it seems.
At times, he regretted the hard hand he's had to take when it came to Kissan. Sameera and Safiya were easy enough, but Kissan was of the age to fight for what he wanted, but what he wanted clashed so greatly with what Narmer imagined his father would've wanted for him, and Narmer was so desperately trying to do good by his brother in ensuring Kissan got a life Narutt would have wanted for his son. And it definitely was not a life on the battlefield, where he had a chance to lose that life. He could never forgive himself if that happened, and he doubted Na'meah would be able to either.
Yet, in brief moments like this, Narmer missed and liked the simple banter which reminded him of the times he used to have with his nephew when he did not have the looming threat of leadership over his head.
The man gave a wry laugh at Kissan's very true observation of them having nothing. Truth be told, he probably would not be able to woe a lady even if he had his eye on one, certainly not with gold. But that wasn't the point, and his nephew was very irritatingly missing the point.
Taking a deep breathe and resisting the urge to roll his eyes when Kissan spoke of giving a preserved date or two, Narmer shifted uncomfortably as he watched the stray piece of clothing be passed off, waited until the servant had left the hallway and they were once agian quite alone, before voicing out again. "I mean... not something physical. Or - wait, yes - it is physical." He was blabbering, he knew he was. Narmer quickly stopped his mouth from going off, pausing before he cleared his throat and looked at his nephew, pausing in his steps. "Do you offer them, or any other lady of the court any... favors, of the bodily kind, Kissan?"

Kissan noted that Narmer seemed to be waiting for the servant to leave them and being in a good enough mood, decided to see just what his uncle was getting at.
As the man babbled on about physical favors, Kissan started at him for a moment with a perplexed look. When it did finally dawn on the young man just what Narmer was asking, Kissan found himself in a delicate position.
He didn't want to tell Narmer he was having intimate relations with a woman, but he also didn't want to admit that he wasn't. He glanced around to make sure they were alone. He considered the man before him and wondered if in this moment he was talking to Narmer his friend or Narmer his uncle.
He took a deep breath and looked at the sky for a moment, his jaw set as he considered his next words carefully. "No" he said quietly as his eyes came back to meet Narmer's. "No, I've not been physical with...them." he admitted and his eyes lowered slightly as if ashamed and clearly thinking himself less for admitting so.
"Don't tell my friends. They all..." he sighed and shrugged. "They all.. you know" he trailed off and wondered just how his uncle would react. Would the man be relieved? Ashamed that Kissan hadn't yet been involved in this way with a woman? Narmer already seemed to consider Kissan so young, would this just confirm it?
A tinge of curiosity entered Kissan's eyes as he regarded his uncle. "When did you first..." he trailed off again feeling like they both knew enough of what that sentence implied that he didn't truly need to finish it.

He was not prepared for this. At all. How did his father have this conversation with him? Or did he at all? Narmer had a faint recollection of him walking in on Narutt one day with his sister in law, before he was sent to military training and just naturally learned it all by being in the same vincinity as many other hormonal teenage boys. It all came naturally. Maybe it wasn't a bad idea to send Kissan for training afterall? Then the awkward task of telling his growing nephew of these matters wouldn't fall to him.
Yet Na'meah wouldn't see her only son under the danger of being dead under a sword, and Narmer could see her reasoning. So there he was, awkwardly shifting in his shoes as his nephew finally seemed to understand what he was getting at.
The man breathed a sigh of relief that at least, he wouldn't have to spell out exactly what it was he was trying to discuss, but it only allevieted the awkwardness he felt by a small amount. Now he actually had to do the talk, which was a whole different ballgame entirely.
Narmer raised a brow, before he shook his head. "I... don't know, actually." he murmured, not at all sure what his nephew was getting at. His friends had brought him to a brothel, and Narmer had been introduced to the lovely pleasures of the skin before the first week of him being in the military had been out. It was Narmer's luck to have friends as he did, but he was also blatantly honest to his friends - or maybe some would call it dumb. Either way, Narmer's friends were kind to him, perhaps in ways Kissan's was not.
Despite not being one usually embarassed of his exploits, there was a degree of weirdness when one discussed such a topic with one's nephew, and was not at all married himself. Narmer imagined it would go far easier if he had a wife, cause then he was expcted to have done so, and could use the imaginary wife as an example. Now though, the man was left to fumble for words for a few brief seconds before he finally responded. "Well I... Ahh... My friends at military! You know how it is with a bunch of guys, all the same age as me. We... headed out to look for women together!" He paused, and then looked to clarify with Kissan. "And you... have not?" He asked, with an unasked 'why?' hidden in his tone.

As Narmer stumbled around the topic, Kissan wondered if he'd made a grave mistake by even humoring his uncle in answering his earlier questions. Maybe he should have just told him to mind his own fields so to speak. Still here they were and there was no worming out of it now.
"Ah" Kissan said carefully and briefly pictured what his uncle was describing. He quickly shut out the image when it came to his uncle meeting a woman though. Something just seemed..off about it all.
When the conversation whipped back around to him, Kissan looked up surprised and shrugged quickly. "Oh sure. But just... you know, talk and stuff. They all think I have so.." he trailed off. With his charm and normally smooth looks, combined with his family's bruised but present wealth, none of his friends had even seem to suspect that the young man was still unpracticed in the ways of love.
"Not like I'm gonna tell them" he said with an embarrassed laugh. "And you... you won't. You promised" Kissan said suddenly, his eyes wide. It was irrelevant that Narmer had made no such vow.

This was not supposed to be his domain, for Gods sakes. It was somewhat mortifying, especially when he couldn't even remember having this sort of conversation himself when he had been younger. Or had it been that horrifying that he had blocked it out of his memory? Whichever way it was, it definitely wasn't helpful now as Narmer scrambled to come up with an appropriate thing to say. It was just wrong to imagine Kissan with anyone when Narmer literally could rmember the day the boy had been born.
But his nephew's answer surprised him though, and it showed in the way Narmer's eyes widened at the word 'thought he had'. "You mean...." he blinked, doing some quick math in his head but failing which, just tried to hazard a guess. Surely his nephew was... somewhere oh past his early teens for sure. Narmer himself visited the brothel when he had been fifteen, brought there by his own military brother's. What had.... went awry in Kissan's experience?
Suddenly given a whole new case to handle, his voice deserted him for the first few seconds of the new information as he digested, before he quickly responded when his nephew vehemently reminded him of his promise... or lack, thereof. Narmer did not remember making any sort of vow to Kissan, yet that wasn't the crux of the matter now, as he slowly considered his words, before speaking. "So you... have not... that is..." he paused again, hemming and hawing before blurting out the remainder of the sentence so fast, it was almost as if it fell out of his lips, all while he kept his eyes averted. "Youhavenotsharedawoman'sbedbefore?"

Narmer seemed to have not even made it past the realization Kissan had revealed to him. Kissan's eyes narrowed slightly. Confusion swirled in his head as he processed that first his uncle was concerned he was sleeping around and now seemed even more concerned that he was not.
He swallowed and his jaw set as Narmer blurted out the confession back to him. "No. I haven't. Another failure to put in your books" he snipped, annoyance growing in his voice. He didn't know why conversations with Narmer always seemed to end up here. Was it his own shame? Missing his father? Rebellion at Narmer's desperate attempts to bring the Hei back into the limelight?
He hoped for caring advice from an older brother figure but perhaps that was misguided to hope for. The disbelief stinging in Narmer's voice made Kissan wary of incoming laughter and mocking. No that Narmer had been one to do such in the past, but Kissan had seen what happened to the boy's who were mocked in his age group. He'd done his best to avoid such a fate and so far had been able to avoid it with his bluff and bravado.
Honesty, honesty had gotten him here and Kissan made a note to be more wary in the future. He should have told his Uncle to mind his own fields and kept the facade up.
"I suppose you will tell everyone now. Shall we have a dinner announcing it?" Sarcasm laid thick in his voice and yet its edge was sharp with bitterness as well. Would he never be seen as a man among his peers?

Most men who became father's never really got a crash course on how to embrace their new role in a young infant's life, but Narmer had always liked to believe that it was some odd instinct nurtured and learned over the nine or ten months it took to conceive and born a baby. He had always thought his father had been a splendid one. Nakht H'Haikaddad had done his best to provide for his two boys, and Narmer had wonderful memories about his father, as well as how well his brother had been to his young kids as well, before his untimely death.
So to the young Haikaddad with the role of male role model thrusted upon him unexpectedly, he really hadn't the faintest clue what to do with Kissan, and in all honesty, he was purely fumbling along.
Before Narutt's death, he had been the jovial, easy-going uncle who was always around for a good time, the 'fun' uncle really. But what did he do when he had to toe the line between fun and being responsible? What would Narutt do? Noticing the growing annoyance in Kissan's tone, his eyes widened as he blinked in surprise at the familiar tone of defiance. Wait, did he say something wrong?
He knew that many Egyptian men considered other's of their gender a boy until they've had their first experience with a woman, and Narmer had been brought by Narutt himself to his first brothel house. But ... would his father had brought him, had he not have his elder brother? How would a father behave in this respect? The sarcasm that came from his nephew had him recoiling, and while half of him wanted to berate his nephew for even thinking to be so rude, the less serious side of him nudged it aside.
Well... if he had no elder brother, who else was he supposed to turn to?
"No. I mean..." What did he mean? The Haikaddad head of house toyed with the idea for a little bit more. Would Na'meah have his head? But what his sister-in-law didn't know wouldn't kill him. Besides, Narutt had asked him to help Kissan, right? Wouldn't helping his nephew through the rite of passage every Egyptian male go through be part of his duties?
"I mean... No, not what you think. I just thought maybe you'd like to join me tonight. It's been awhile since I last visited the temple of Qatesh." As he suggested that, there was a light twinkling in his eyes, the kind of which he hadn't wore ever since his brother had handed over leadership to Narmer. The temple of Qatesh housed the priestesses to the goddess of fertility and sexual pleasure of the Egyptian gods. Unlike regular brothel's, the payment for the service of one of their priestesses was high (something Narmer would figure out once he got back to their saraaya), but the quality of which far surpassed any of the regular brothel girls in the capitol.

Kissan blinked as his uncle's tone softened and seemed to back-peddle a bit. He and Narmer had started butting heads on a fairly regular occurrence so in truth Kissan would have truly not be surprised if his words had brought Narmer's wrath instead of care.
He waited quietly as Narmer seemed to mull over an idea, suspicion growing in the youth's eyes. When Narmer finally spit out the idea, Kissan's eyes grew. Everyone KNEW what the Temple of Qatesh was about. "You'd go...you'd take me to...you'd do that for me?" Kissan stumbled over an answer, an embarrassed laugh escaping his lips as his hand went to rub the back of his neck.
His eyes searched his uncle's to make sure the offer was in earnest and not some sick kind of joke. His uncle wasn't that type of man to play such tricks but this was so unexpected that Kissan found himself unsure. Tonight. Wow. He wasn't expecting to become a man, tonight.
"I would be.." Kissan searched for the right words. This was such an awkward topic to be having with his uncle. "Honored?" he finished slightly unsure. "I would like that very much" he nodded then with more surety in his voice, a cocky, expectant sort of smile floating across his lips as his eyes began to dazzle with excitement. "What are they like?" he asked with a dancing grin.

His brother had left his children in his charge - well, in a way. He never really had the time to speak to Narutt upon his deathbed. Most of his time had been taken up by Na'meah, but Narmer did not fault his sister-in-law. Na'meah had left Bedoa to be with his brother, but was now alone without even her family and only her children upon the death of her husband, so Narmer did not want to fault her.
But he had somehow, over the years, truly believe that it was his sole duty to bring up his nieces and nephews in a way that would garner Narutt's agreement, nevermind he hadn't even entertained the idea of being a father himself. He had barely been a grown man when he had to take on that responsibility, and the idea alone had made him flee, hoping distance from his family saraaya would mean his responsibilities would somehow resolve themselves without him there.
Of course, that was just his wishful thinking.
So now was him trying to do his best, and he could only take a leaf out of the faint memories of his father teaching him and his brother when they were younger. Or in his case, what Narutt had done in place of his father. Was he doing it right? He had no clue. But that was what he remembered, so that's all he had to go on. Kissan's own embarassed laugh had Narmer flashing an awkward, uncertain but hopeful smile of his own as he noded.
"Sure?" he replied in turn, even if they both were a little at a lost of how to go on, before chuckling a little at the uncertainty his nephew had as he asked with clear excitement. Of course, the prospect of sexual conquests were exciting to any man, but more so to a younger one with no experience in such matters and now was likely to get his first time soon. "You'll have to see for yourself. But I'll just say.... there's a reason why many people visit." he replied with a wink and a rogue-ish grin. While he may be uncertain in many things regarding running a family, a Hei and his saraaya, when it came to females and bedding them, that was something he had his own experience in at least.
"Let's not tell your mom about this though, shall we?" Narmer finally finished, as he suddenly thought of how Na'meah would react. He wasn't sure if his sister-in-law would think her son still too young for this, but he didn't want to take the risk. Plus such a topic would be entirely unsuited for the ears of Safiya and Sameera, so he would more then likely avoid such a topic entirely. "Meet me at the entrance of the saraaya in two nights? I'll make the arrangements."

Kissan grinned despite himself as his uncle said he'd have to see for himself. He knew Deshra was breathtaking and she was a lady of the night of sorts. Surely these women would be even more beautiful. Was that even possible?
While Narmer noted not to speak of this to Kissan's mother, the young man nodded quickly. "She won't hear a word of it from me" he assured. He wasn't even sure she'd disapprove, he just wasn't going to have that awkward conversation with her. It was bad enough having it with his uncle.
He was slightly disappointed when Narmer set the dates two nights from then, but looking around, he did suppose they needed to keep cleaning up from the party. With an eager smile he nodded. "Two night from now, you got it" he agreed readily.
With that, after some awkward collaborative smiles, the two parted ways and Kissan continued helping to clean up, his mind racing ahead to what actually being with a woman might be like. He felt like he knew so little and had so much to learn. Would they be happy to teach? Would they laugh at him? He frowned and considered the possibility. It sounded like most of the noble men went there to learn so why would they laugh at him? He surely was not the oldest man to visit them for the first time. Thoughts and wonderings continued to swirl around him even as he crawled into bed for the night and his eyes slid closed.
