As a married woman, there have been many whispers about how often Evras returned home to her family's archontiko - whispers that have been fuelled even more by the rumors of what the others thought of the three Thanasi sisters, and of the things the three of them got up to behind closed doors. After a lifetime of growing up with these rumors, Evras knew better then to let them affect her. She was an expert at letting it slide off her like water off a duck's back.
But not her husband, apparently.
Even up till today, Evras could not pin point exactly what was it that had caused Zanon to turn the way he did, but it had come to a point where the pale-skinned Thanasi sister no longer found joy in remaining within the Kotas archontiko, and instead found refuge in the very place where she grew up. It has been so long that Evras no longer remembered how it felt like being caressed by her husband, his touch on her skin, or she sorely missed the gentle words he used to whisper to her when they were awoken by their infant son.
Now, said son was eleven, and said husband was nowhere near her.
"Dion, go look for Pappoús I think he's in the library? He has been wanting to see you." she murmured to her young son, who merely nodded at her directive, and released his hold on her hand to run towards the direction he knew the library was located, where her father waited to dote on his only grandson. Evras no longer left Dion alone in the Kotas mansion. She did not trust her husband to properly look after him, and neither did she trust the family to care for him, even if he was currently the only offspring in the Kotas family.
Dion was perhaps, the last thing she held dear to her heart next to her family. He reminded her of better times, when she actually had the gentle eyes of her husband on her, when Zanon still spent the time to ensure himself of her wellbeing, and of her laughter.
These days, she would be lucky if she even got him to speak to her.
Finding great comfort in being back home again, Evras pulled at the himation she had wrapped around her shoulders, the heavy material covering three quarters of her emerald green silken chiton. Her hair was loose as usual, its natural curls falling haphazardly around her shoulders, tossed in the wind as Evras made her way to the courtyard of the Thanasi archontiko, seeking for some peace to settle her thoughts before she had to return to her married home at sunset.

Mihail had only been twelve when his sister Evras had married into the Kotas family, and it had taken a long while to become accustomed to that. His family had always taught him never to trust them and that they were an adversary that needed to be destroyed on the path to power so to see her so easily become a part of their family had certainly confused the child. For a few years, he'd seen it as little more than a betrayal on her behalf, despite the fact that it edged the Thanasi family closer to the position they so dearly coveted, and it had taken until he was properly grown into adulthood before he even deigned to visit her himself. That said, she had not hesitated to visit home and do so often, and Mihail would not deny that it was at least partially due to that dedication in her visits that he had managed to reconcile his views and he and Evras continued to be on good terms.
He had not expected to see his sister today, however, having been otherwise preoccupied when any news of her arrival had been announced, and it was a surprise to him when the young man walked into the courtyard to find Evras there. Mihail couldn't deny being pleased to see her, although he would have liked to see his nephew as well, considering him to be one of the rare examples of a child he didn't find to be an exceptional nuisance, especially since Dion seemed to not only like him but appeared to consider Mihail as some sort of vague role model, something he greatly appreciated. Few people seemed to note just how destined for greatness he was and any attention in that regard, be it from an eleven-year-old or otherwise, made him feel as proud as he had been raised. Still, he knew that Evras wasn't exactly enthused by the idea of leaving the boy alone with his paternal family, so he would doubtless be somewhere around the house. Mihail would surely run into him later on in the day, before his sister was forced to return home.
Brushing down his chiton, he crossed the courtyard toward his sister, calling out her name as he approached so as not to alarm her too much with his sudden appearance. It had always been a talent of Mihail's to recognise whenever his siblings were in a state of distress or had concerns on their mind, and he could tell that Evras was preoccupied to an extent. "At this rate, I would believe you continued to live here, Evras, I see you so often." He moved to take a seat on one of the courtyard's stone benches, offering her a smile in an attempt to liven her spirits somewhat. "How are you? How is Dion?" He didn't tend to include the husband in his queries, never having cared enough for the man. Pleasantries were to be reserved for those who weren't regarded as an enemy.

She knew that Mihail, out of all her siblings and family, was the one that disagreed the most to her marriage to Zanon. Back then, lost in the bliss of love and blinded by her husband's gentle treatment of her, Evras had not bothered with her brother's dislike, and basked in the attention Zanon gave her. He was, after all, one of the only ones who disagreed. Nethis had been overjoyed, as had their father, who saw Evras's marriage as a stepping stone to greatness for their family. Thea had been only concerned for Evras's happiness, and at that point in time, the youngest Thanasi sister had been happy.
The keyword being 'had'.
Now, she escaped to her family home to get away from the pain of watching and hearing her husband visit all forms of brothel and whorehouses, and it was no secret that it had been years since Zanon had been to her bedchambers, preferring to keep his own, quite unlike how they had shared a bedchamber in the early years of their marriage.
So the Thanasi archontiko was her escape when Evras sought for solitude. It being the middle of the day, Evras had not expected much to be around, so when a familiar voice called her name, the woman turned in surprise, and a soft smile graced her lips when she saw the familiar face of her younger brother. "Mihail, do you not have anything occupying your time today?" she greeted, shifting so there was more space on the stone bench for him to take a seat on.
"I would like to, live here, that is." she murmured in reply, in a voice soft and somewhat poignant, her eyes dropping to her golden sandaled feet. Pushing a few strands of her stray dark locks, and tucking it behind her ears, she shook the melancholy air off, and turned to her brother with a slight glint of tease in her eyes, "Are you saying you're sick of me now?" Evras teased, grinning. "Dion is fine, with Papa in the library I think. He's been hankering to see his grandson, so I brought him along. I'm... as good as good can be." Evras did not miss noticing that there was no mention of her husband, and while she had often clashed with Mihail early on in her marriage in an effort to make him accept the man he loved, nowadays... Evras didn't bother. Because she can't help but suspect that maybe, in some ways, Mihail had been right.
"And have you been busy? You never visit." she jostled, although it was meant as a joke. She knew better then to expect Mihail to step foot in to the Kotas archontiko.

Did Mihail have anything he was supposed to be doing that day? He did, admittedly, have a reputation for shirking his responsibilities often enough - not that he ever actually had all that much to be responsible for - but today was one of the few occasions when he didn't actually have anything he was meant to be occupying himself with. The freedom was appreciated but the sensation of boredom that came with it definitely wasn't. He had always needed constant stimulation and, he supposed, on this particular occasion, Evras was providing it because there was no one else to do so.
"Why? Would you rather I have a job which occupies me and I didn't have the time to come and speak with you?" he retorted, his lips twisting up into the slightest of smiles. "We hardly get the opportunity to see each other anymore, it would be a shame if I was distracted by some sort of work as well. If it bothers you so much, however, I shall find reason to be out of the house whenever you care to visit."
The idea of Evras returning to live in the Thanasi archontiko was an appealing one for certain. For starters, it would mean that Mihail had his two favourite siblings around as opposed to just Thea and he would have appreciated someone else to pass the time with when she wasn't around. Nethis was far too harsh in comparison and he had never fully gotten on with Dysius out of an overly childish jealousy that he had been born the first. "I am sure no one here would mind your return and Dion would surely enjoy staying here. I don't see him enough." He made a mental note to go and find his nephew in a moment, first turning his attention to his sister's apparent lack of a good mood. He recognised her tone well enough. There were some people that Mihail would actually deign to help when they appeared in need, and his sister was one of them. "Has Zanon been causing you further trouble?"
The comment on his lack of visits Mihail knew was meant to be humorous but he couldn't help frowning at the suggestion that he should go by his sister's new home more often. In all the time that she had been married, he had taken the opportunity to visit as her guest once, many years ago, and he had not enjoyed the experience all that much. Of course, the Kotas family had seemed welcoming enough, and Evras had appeared happy with her life back then, her joy being something that Mihail did care for, but he had not felt at all able to trust the people around him. When Evras had started coming home so much more often, he had been thankful. "I haven't been especially occupied lately, no," he replied, opting to take her joke as otherwise. "I might be more inclined to visit if there was some benefit to it aside from the opportunity to see one of my favourite sisters. But, last I recall...it simply wasn't any use to me."

Her younger brother had always been the touchy one, way more then Evras had been. Out of her sisters, the youngest Thanasi girl was sensitive, empathetic and felt more then anyone else usually did - until Mihail had came along.Even at a young age, it was clear that the young brother she had reacted more, wanted more... everything was more when it came to Mihail.
Laughing at the younger one's comment, Evras shook her head ruefully and gave a good-natured smile to him. "Of course not, brother. Remain in the house, and I shall make it a point to check on you first everytime I visit." she responded, reaching up to ruffle his hair as she was wont to do due to their difference in age. "Do not deny me my joy of seeing my favorite younger brother." she praised in a teasing tone. It wasn't too far off the charts - Dysius mean streak had Evras more cautious when dealing with her other sibling. Mihail, while sensitive and haughty, truly did care for his siblings - except when she reminded him of who her husband was, that is.
Which would explain why Mihail was, of course overjoyed when Evras stated her wish to return to their family home. Thea, Mihail and herself had always had a jolly time, especially when their elder sister would provide some of her own stash of herbs to entertain her siblings. Evras, while no heavy consumer, had in recent years enjoyed the peace it brought her, away from the harsh realities of dealing with her husband.
Yet, she was a realistic one. With a sigh, the woman leaned back against the backrest of the seat, her head tilting up to look at the sky. "you know that isn't possible, Mihail. Dion is the heir to the throne, no matter how far removed. The Kotas family is not going to just let him go." Her one balming knowledge is that, while they would say things to her son, they would never harm her physically, and Evras wanted nothing more then for the safety and sanctity of her only child to be protected.
The only child she'll ever have, if things continued the way they were.
Her smile was sad as she straightened her neck, and she averted Mihail's eyes as she answered. "Nothing more then the usual." He would know a fair bit she told sometimes, but she never actually revealed how hurt she felt by his carousing of the local whores. That, she kept to herself. No one needed to know a Thanasi's vulnerable side.
With his admittance on not visiting, the smile returned to her face, and she gave a sly look at Mihail. "So being able to see your favorite sister and nephew is not a benefit then?" She placed a hand over her heart, feigning a hurt look.

"Oh, favourite younger brother, am I?" Mihail repeated, raising an eyebrow at the suggestion as though in disbelief. Of course, he knew it had to be nothing more than a statement of fact, especially given that their other brother was less than amicable at the worst of times and, in Mihail's opinion, made too much of a fuss about how he was the eldest of the two (something he, in reality, barely commented on save when he wanted to wind up the youngest of the siblings). "I would never have guessed you thought of me so highly. You might want to let me know more often. You do know I need the validation, after all, how can I be expected to live without knowing what one of my favourite sisters thinks of me." He would have called her his favourite but it was no secret how close Mihail was with Thea in comparison to the rest of his sisters. The pair of them would simply have to share the position of favourite.
Dion might have been the heir to the throne but that meant nothing to Mihail in comparison to family values. Well, that wasn't exactly true because it was startlingly obvious how much he wanted to get closer to the throne and Dion was really the closest he would be to that for a long while but, at the same time, he cared a lot about keeping the Thanasi family together with the same beliefs. With his nephew still being at such an impressionable age and seeming to like him so much, there didn't seem to be any better time to be teaching him.
But Evras would never have allowed him to give her son the ideals he believed in. "He should have the opportunity to be raised with a family that cares for him and thinks more of him than a placeholder for the throne," he objected, following his sister's gaze and staring up at the sky as well, trying to find the words that would convince her to come around to his way of thinking. "I think you know just as well as I do that, were he not the heir, had you had a daughter, they would have no interest in keeping him around. Dion would do better here. He would do better with me than he could do with the Kotas family." And that was all he had to say on the matter because, well, Mihail knew full well he was right and that his sister knew it too. "Although, there is one thing I don't care for about him. I'll never understand why you didn't think to name him Mihail."
It wasn't necessary for Evras to elaborate on what Zanon did that upset her so much. He didn't need to hear the details, he didn't care what they were, he only cared that his sister seemed so upset by the man's actions. Mihail wasn't a fighter but there were things he could do. Reaching over to place a hand over hers in reassurance, he suggested: "Evras. Is there nothing I can do? I'm sure just a few words in the right places would tarnish his reputation sufficiently...even ruin it. I can help you."
"You know exactly what I mean and it is not that," Mihail pouted back, although he was enjoying his sister's over-acting. It was a lighter moment in the more serious conversation they'd been having. "I love to see the both of you, but I have no need to count that as a benefit of the Kotas home if I can do so here. What I mean is that they're not prone to leaving their secrets out in the open, so to call it, and you know I hate that. How am I supposed to find fuel if they refuse to provide? I don't wish to have to send you back there to gather information in my name - you already have enough to worry about - unless you happen to have anything you wish to share? Women are supposed to chatter a lot, aren't you? There must be something I can use to my advantage."

Women are supposed to chatter a lot, aren't you? There must be something I can use to my advantage."
Anymore validation she offered Mihail, and she knew her younger brother's head would swell to be twice the size of the doorway at the Thanasi residences. She merely rolled her eyes and laughed at the comments he made, knowing full well she was only one of two favorites. Mihail was close to Thea, even more so ever since Evras had married and moved out of their family home. Of course, with how often she visited these days, it wasn't hard to maintain a close sibling relationship.
Evras sighed when Mihail commented on the family. It was true, that he should be raised by a loving family. The Kotas family, while protective of their young heir to the family, did not display the type of affection Evras wanted for her youngest son. Then again, perhaps she was bias. Others could seehow the two ruling monarchs treated their young grandson, and the crown prince would protect his nephew would his life. But Evras loved him, something she didn't know her husband could say the same of, with how utterly convicted he was of her being a witch.
"They care for him." Evras fought, albeit weakly, for her family that she had married into. "They are just the typical Colchis family, of war and blood, rather then affection and love. But that is why I bring him back here as often as I can, Mihail." she tried to reassure, laying a hand over the younger's hand and giving it a squeeze. The woman laughed, shaking her head wryly and g iving her brother a raised brow. "And what am I supposed to do, when father questions why he was surpassed by you?"
Her brother's touch was a comfort - it was a soothing thing, to be with the knowledge that at least someone cared of her wellbeing, even if that person was no longer her husband. She was quick tos hake her head, foolish as she was. She cared for Zanon dearly, and still did. Besides, with the temper he showed her these days, she wasn't sure her gentle brother would survive the wrath of her husband if he found out what he had done. "No, Mihail. You will do no such thing. Tis a matter between myself and my husband." she insisted, giving him a serious look and squeezing his hand. "Dinna put yourself in trouble with him."
Pulling away, she playfully swatted at his forehead at his comment. In a way, Evras was... if not 100% the witch he accused her of, she had her own secrets. She knew her sister Nethis, and Mihail, had used her position in the Kotas household as a benefit for themselves. But Evras was loyal, and till this day, would breach no secret of the royal family to her two most scheming siblings. She would not take sides, and did not even reveal anything to her husband, but neither did she tell on them to her birth family. "There is no such news I can speak of Mihail, unless you want to see my husband flog me to death. You do not wish that to happen of me, would you now dear brother?"

"There is no such news I can speak of Mihail, unless you want to see my husband flog me to death. You do not wish that to happen of me, would you now dear brother?"
Typical Colchis family or not, Mihail didn't care for their method of bringing up their child. He himself had had a very comfortable upbringing, for the most part. When their mother had been alive, perhaps not so much, and Dysius had been a horrible brother sometimes, but his sisters had given him solace. Overall, you couldn't have called it an awful childhood. Dion didn't have siblings to keep him distracted when things went badly, so he wasn't going to have the comforting forces behind him that his uncle had had.
"Well, if anything ever happens to the boy, you know where he'll be safe," Mihail shrugged, leaving the subject at that. He knew it was never going to happen but there seemed to be no wrong in his attempts to ensure the child's prolonged security. "Why should Father question anything? Mihail is a far nicer name and he must like it, given that he chose it as mine. I don't think he would have had any complaints on the matter. But if you're so set on keeping his current name, perhaps you could consider this advice for a future child? After all, you did say I was your favourite brother. I would have thought you would want to have a reminder of me at all times and what better way than that?"
Evras would never let Mihail do anything about Zanon which was a shame, really, because he was sure he would be capable of finding something that should destroy the man efficiently. It was his special talent, after all. "But I can help! I am not so useless as people seem to think, I would have thought you were aware of that by now." He gave his sister a look of mild pleading, even if he was well aware she was unlikely to grant him the opportunity to ruin her husband. There was so much he could have said and when it came to one like the Kotas family, Mihail knew all too well that it only took the slightest seed of doubt to spark hatred from the masses. If Evras really did object, then the man's name would be added to his list for future revenge, lest he do something truly awful, but he was willing to hold off for now. "I could handle myself against him."
"No news at all?" he repeated, not entirely sure if he believed her words. "I doubt there is nothing, everybody has their secrets. But you're not wrong, I would rather you weren't flogged or beaten or hurt in the slightest. I assure you, if he did such a thing, then I would have word out in a moment, and he would be destroyed." And that was a promise Mihail was willing to keep, partially because it would have proved him right in hating the royal house and partially because he could not bear the thought of anybody harming his sister. Evras was the one he worried about the most. Nethis and Thea had not been thrown into such a situation as she had, and he trusted them to maintain their safety. "I suppose you shall have to keep your news to yourself, then. But if you are ever in doubt of your decision, I would love to be the first to know." Perhaps Mihail could not hold himself in battle but his words could easily cut through any armour.

Oh, Evras knew her family would always protect her son. While Nethis was a scheming child, and she wouldn't trust Dysius or her father alone with Dion, she knew they wouldn't harm an offspring that she had at the very least. But that wasn't the point. Dion deserved more then just being coddled away, and as he turned twelve in a few moons time, her husband was due to bring him away to start his military training.
And that was still something that Evras grappled to come to terms with.
A sad look shuttered along her irises. Future children? At the rate she was going, Evras doubted if she would have any future children with her husband - and the woman was not one to cuckold her husband in the marital bed. She knew how much it hurt to be the one on the other end, and while pettiness dictated her to do the same to the one who hurt her, her values prevented her. Especially when that was no enviroment to raise her son.
"I look in the mirror and I see a reminder of you enough, brother. I dinna need more." Evras teased, letting the forlorn look wash away.
She recognized the look he wore, and knew full well the sway Mihail had when it came to kicking up rumors and talks. Her brother, while no ace with a weapon, had a dangerous tongue. Evras was tempted, but rumors could hurt a lot more - look at what it had done to her marriage. So again, she shook her head, denying her brother again of his request. Evras was nothing if not stubborn, and besides, as a receipient of Zanon's anger, she did not want her brother to receive the same.
"At least he's not gone to that extent yet." For now. Her mind thought. Her husband's anger was growing to a degree that scared Evras, so much so that she found many ways to avoid him, as best she could. It had been a relief when the guest had finally left the Kotas residences. She gave a light chuckle, leaning forward to press an affectionate kiss to her brother's cheek before standing up. "I appreciate your concern, brother dear. I should go check on my son and Father now. Would you like to come along? Dion would love to see his uncle, I bet."

Yet, but he could, and that was not an end Mihail could ever wish for his sister. He cared too profoundly for Evras ever to wish her hurt, and though he promised he would not speak against her husband, he could not extend such a reassurance to her potential injury. An intense need to protect his family had been burned into him since the earliest days of his life, and he would never allow them to be hurt as a result.
But they were finished on that matter now, and, cynical as the youngest Thanasi could often be, he did not wish to dwell on such a negative fantasy, only nodding at the suggestion they go see visit Dion and their father. Truth be told, although Mihail cared deeply for most of his family, he had never quite been close with his father, and he was never sure of the fuss they made over the man's ill health. He was already far past his prime; there was no reason to obsess over such an inevitable death. It was only his beloved nephew that he truly cared to see - arguably the only born Kotas that Mihail would ever be able to care for (after all, the child seemed to resemble his maternal house far more than his paternal, and he could never fault that).
"I would be delighted to see my nephew," he agreed, standing from his seat as Evras had done. It had been far too long since he had had the opportunity to speak with Dion, and he had missed him dearly. The pair had far too much to catch up on, and, besides, Mihail wanted to ensure the child had been keeping up with his archery. Gesturing for his sister to lead the way out of the courtyard, he offered her a bright smile. "Ladies first, dear sister."
