Evras had sailed through the first three months of her pregnancy with nary a side effect. It had been so easy, she had actually sent a panicked missive to Thea asking her sister to come over, for the young princess had begun to doubt she was actually pregnant, despite missing her two courses already. With Dion, it had been glaringly obvious because her breasts had been sore, and more then that, she had never been able to keep her breakfast down for more then an hour. Yet with the one she suspected she carried now, Evras barely felt a thing aside from the heaviness of her breasts which had only begun a day or two ago. Had Thea not done her thorough questioning, Evras wouldn't even begin to think of such a matter.
Once she had felt the heaviness in her chest, Evras had wanted to confirm said news with her husband, for Zanon had been equally hopeful when she had shared her suspicions with him the last time. Yet with the arrival of the Taengean visitors, coupled with the nights in which Evras found herself kept up occasionally due to loud... too loud conversations that came from the quarters for the Taengean royals on the run, Evras found many thoughts crowding in her head. While she had been lucky enough to have conceived and given birth to Dion as her first pregnancy, would the Kotas family now require a secondborn to be a son as well, with the way things were of late? Would it be a dissapointment to have a daughter born, as what she's heard been whispered by the servants of the Taengean royalty?
These thoughts kept her up half the night, and had been for the past few nights, that morning, Evras had awoken with a terror-inducing pain in her abdomen. It had not been as wrenching as the few times she had suffered miscarriages, but in itself was terrifying for a woman whose lost undeveloped children before. The stirrings took turns being sharp and dull, cramps on one side of lower tummy occasionally, and was accompanied with an ache in her muscles and back - all of which made Evras felt not only extremely uncomfortable, but caused a growing panic in her chest. It didn't help that the feast celebrating the arrival of two unexpected Taengean guests on top of the two royals who had arrived last week meant Evras had a growing panic in her chest over the scheduled feast tonight - which only meant her mind could not shut up the moment it woke up.
No longer able to sleep, the expectant mother quickly jumped out of bed, grabbing a parchment to pen a quick missive to her sister. Thea was the only sister she ever turned to when she had medical maladies, and she couldn't think of anyone else. Evras did not wish to call upon a physician yet, for fear the news would leak out before she could even reaffirm if she was indeed, carrying.
Summoning a servant to send the missive immediately with as much urgency as one could muster, the woman's blue-green eyes drifted across to her husband's sleeping form, contemplating for a moment to wake him, before deciding against it. Zanon has had plenty of late work nights ever since Vangelis had returned, and she had no wish to disturb his rest. So instead, the dark-haired woman scribbled a quick note to her husband with brief details of what had occured, before informing him she simply wished to take a quick jaunt to the temple of Hera to pray and do some offerings for better chances, as well as to meet Thea there.
That done, the princess was quick to loop her dark hair in a brown twine, the dark ponytail falling down her back. Donning a simple blue chiton that was chinched under her chest and fell to her ankles, Evras quietly made her way out and to the foyer of the Kotas manor, intending to head to the temple of the Gods for some offerings to assure the safety of the child she carried.

It was impossible to sleep next to him anymore. It was barely possible to to sleep with the frequent cries of her child, the one he hated so much. When Tisiphone began to whimper again, Olympia pulled herself out of bed and lifted the girl into her arms, trying to feel that maternal protection that was sometimes so difficult. Every mother that she had spoken to had talked of the bond between mother and child, the love that was so overwhelming that it took hold of everything. She had yet to feel such a thing for the little one that had caused her so much pain.
Perhaps it was because she had been unconscious for such a time after her birth, or the reaction of Stephanos to the sight of a daughter, or perhaps she was just ill. Ever since that day she had felt hollow, as if the birth had not only left her belly empty but her heart as well. Her dark hair was unbound, and she wrapped a simple grey himation around her shoulders to cover the plain chiton she wore. There was nothing about her that could suggest royalty, or even nobility, save for her fine features that spoke of a breeding higher than she felt. Once upon a time she had been a fine lady, now she was a simple shell.
Stepping out into the foyer, she tried to quiet the baby in a fog, unsure exactly where she was wandering to but feeling desperation setting in. She was so tired she couldn't think, and felt herself on the verge of tears to match Tisiphone's. A figure caught her eye as they moved into the foyer in tandem, and as it registered who the other woman was, she stopped and sank into a curtsy. It had been a long while since she had done so, especially to another woman of her own age. Bending her knees and bowing her head, Pia kept a tight grip on the baby as the princess passed.
"Your highness. Good morning."
Pia stood with a hesitance, her body still aching in the strangest ways that it never had before. Whatever had brought the crown princess of Colchis from her bed at such an hour was no doubt pressing, and Pia expected to be passed by with little if any pleasantries to a disgraced queen.

Thea had promised Evras that all she had to do was send a missive and she would come to her side, day or night. Tonight, as it stood closer to sunrise than to sunset, such a missive came. The messenger could tell her nothing of import regarding her sister's well-being, no matter how deep or harsh her stare demanded. In her mind, that could be a good thing, compared to the alternative.
Still, it took no time at all for Thea to quietly wake the required members of her household - the horsemaster to prepare a carriage, her handmaiden to assist her in dressing, and her guard, Deimos, who would drive the carriage to limit the number of casualties inflicted on the sleeping beneath the roof.
In the passing days, Thea had felt as if there were a storm of tension brewing beneath the veneer of Thanasi normalcy. Yes, the loss of an old king and return of a new king, along with the break in routine caused by such events had unsettled the house to an extent, but their House was not built on sand nor easily disturbed. Still, much like the calm before the storms Boreas bore down on Colchis in the rainy seasons, something was coming.
This sense coupled with her internal turmoil regarding her own purpose and the hand of which god exactly rested upon her heart had left Thea quiet, even now with nearly all of her siblings under one roof once again. All but Evras, of course.
Her thoughts lingered on her sister, and before she left her rooms, she passed a hand over her current labor and lit a golden hued candle and set alight a small amount of frankincense resin - the favored incense of Apollo. If he did have some purpose for her, she quietly prayed that he give her guidance now, to help her care for her sister in this important time.
Snuffing the candle once the carriage was made ready, she set out for the Kotas manor, passing unlit windows and the rarest of souls along the way. Once the carriage arrived at the doors, Thea exited and approached the entryway, and once through the door was surprised to not only see Evras standing there, but also the image of the Taengean Queen - Olympia of Mikaelidas.
Her expression shifted in a way that only her sister would recognize, and now that they were not alone, Thea deeply curtsied to both of the higher ranking women before her. At least, she supposed both of them were? Thea questioned internally for a moment. Queen...or Lady Olympia? Or Princess? After all, she was married to Stephanos, the refugee King of Taengea, and yet...word had spread that his uncle, Irakles of Mikaelidas had claimed the crown as King.
Stumped on the question of titles, she settled to forgo the options altogether, given the late hour and the relation to her sister at her request.
"It is a pleasure to see you again," she stated, a genuine yet questioning smile curling at her lips as she tilted her head towards the tiny bundle in her arms, "Even if it is difficult to believe that so much time has already passed since we last met."
Thea's eyes fell on the child in Olympia's arms, and her expression softened in a way that very few could say they bore witness. It was an expression shared by many women as they adored new life, but tinged with the faintest ache shared by those without. Quickly recovering her expression once again, she added, "Your daughter shares in your beauty."
After a moment, she extended a hand towards her younger sister in a familiar gesture, knowing that Evras would take it as she always had. Giving that hand a soft squeeze that asked a million questions that could not be spoken of in present company, she instead asked in veiled words, "Are we to have company?"
In the missive, Evras only mentioned the two of them on their journey to the Halls of the Gods. After all, no one else knew of Evras' condition or in this moment, the need for prayer and protection. Thea did not know if something had changed, but as her eyes shifted back to the Taengean royal refugee, her eyes caught a strain of melancholy that somehow tugged at her heartstrings.

Since when had those been there?
Selene had tried her best to help with the baby. Tisiphone was a precious child during the day, but tended to fuss at night-- the witching hour, her mother used to say. With her own rooms close to Olympia and Stephanos’s, she had told her sister that she was more than welcome to bring the baby to her, at any hour. The eldest Leventi had found far too much joy in the exhaustion that settled into her bones. It may not have been her child, but it made her anxious to be settled.
But that was something she kept to herself.
Having taken to the baby’s schedule of waking, Selene found herself up almost 2 hours earlier than she would have prior to the baby being born. Sighing as she realized the early hour (and the lack of sunlight), she found herself thinking about the other person who had wholly occupied her mind since his arrival in Taegnea.
Vangelis was a puzzle that she would find herself certain of the answer, only to have it change forms. Their friendship seemed built on unstable ground, the waters rocking the island in which they were on. One minute, they knew who they were, the next they would be tossed into the unknown. And most of it had been her fault. She had let her emotions interfere with what they had thought to be constant. She had turned everything upside down with the kiss, then pushed it off a cliff with her plea to save her family. On the other side of all that, it seemed that they were rebuilding, achingly slow, the foundation which had been broken.
She found herself trying to figure out what the moment in the stables meant. He was a very literal man, one who knew what he wanted and always knew how to make it so. But in that moment, he had needed her. Needed her support and her care and she willingly offered it. He said nothing of it, nor had she seen him since the event. But he was not hers.
Her heart was being childish. His father had just died, the transition to King was far more important than her desires to know if she meant anything more to him. And yet, in the quiet of the night, she found herself wondering if he was thinking of her, and if those thoughts were helping him seek much needed rest. She wanted to be a comforting presence, not a confusing one.
She wanted to be his.
Coupling that with her sudden desire to be settled, Selene was in a tailspin. The timing was not right. There was unrest with Egypt, something that the King would find himself thrust into with vengeance. His time was spent in meetings, and soon he would be leaving, most likely, to try and squash the enemy before it became more. His own status of marriage had never been a concern. And the line of succession was secure in that Vangelis had every confidence in his brother, should something happen to him-- he had told her so much himself.
Still, her dreams were filled with their children, running through the Manor as they chased after their father.
Which made waking all the easier-- it was too hard to stay in that fantasy when reality pointed to it never happening. Still, the moment in the stable, his trust in a moment of weakness, gave her hope. Maybe, just maybe he would wish her his bride.
Wish her his Queen.
She didn’t wish to think of that now, not with the event that night. Tossing the bed linen aside, she was quick to get out of bed. Jo (whom her mother had thankfully brought with her) was still sleeping, but had unpacked all of her chitons that had been brought along. Selene pulled out a simple plum chiton, the braided belt a lighter purple. Leaving her hair down, the Leventi thought to take to the temples, as she did most mornings. A devout woman, she felt as if she owed them even more since landing on Colchis. They blessed her, kept her family safe, protected those she cared about-- it was her duty.
As she searched for a cloak, her hand rested on the one Vangelis had given her on the boat. Selene knew she should have given it back by now, as it had served its purpose already. But she could not bring herself to do it, not yet. It put her mind at ease, brought her comfort that they were still friends in his mind.
And the smell of it brought her a sense of peace, as only he seemed able to do.
Deciding to leave it behind, she wrapped herself in one of her own, smaller cloaks as moved into the halls. Her intentions had been to take one of the horses, or to walk alone, as was calming. But those intentions were quickly put to rest as she came upon a gaggle of voices. It would seem that on a day like today, rest was hard to come by.
“It would seem that the ladies in this manor are restless.” She said as she approached, giving a small curtsy to the group before pressing a welcoming kiss to Pia’s temple. “Good morning, sister.” If anyone knew her sister, it was Selene. The exhaustion and desperation in her face was easy to see. And while she knew there was more to it, Selene didn’t press her. The blonde beamed down at the little girl in her arms, pulling her from her sister’s grasp to give her a moment’s break. “Good morning, sweet princess. Are you giving your mother fits already?” She cooed, pressing the baby into her shoulder.
“Your highness, it is good to see you.” She started to sway with the baby, waiting to be introduced to the other woman present.

Evras had been surprised, and had started a little when a voice had addressed her with a title she still felt foreign with. She had never really grown into the princess title, a title Nethis favored more then she did. Instead, she was merely content being considered Zanon's wife, and did her tasks as was bidded by the Queen.
Turning to the source of the voice, the startled look softened to a gentle smile when she noticed who it was. The arrival of the Taengean royalty had been a surprise, for Vangelis had made no mention of there being visitors upon his return. Preparations were hurried to ensure a bedchamber of proper size and decorations were made ready for those of their rank. But Evras had not been mad - how could she, when the supposed Queen of Taengea had just given birth? Ever since becoming a mother, Evras had a soft spot for other mothers, and had done her best to ensure every comfort she could provide.
Seeing the late night taking its toll on the young Queen, as well as her desperately trying to quiet the disturbed baby, Evras couldn't help but step forward towards Olympia with a small curtsy. "Good morning to you too, Your Highness. She has stolen your sleep hours from you again, I see?" It was a light hint of laughter in her voice as she spoke, peering down at the dark-haired infant carried by her mother, the soft smile she wore clearly affectionate for the newborn.
Turning her head when her sister's arrival was made clear, any remaining worry that Evras wore cleared up when Thea stepped in the foyer. Allowing her elder sister to greet the Taengean Queen, she was about to respond with a negative to Thea's query, when yet another of the Kotas guests seemed to join them.
Surprising really, considering how odd the hour was. If she wasn't careful she'd turn and see the remaining of the other surprising Taengean visitors who had just arrived a few hours prior. Considering how tired the Ladies Evelli and Nana had looked upon their arrival however, Evras at least doubted they would appear in the foyer about now.
Smiling in amusement at Selene's comment, Evras nodded in agreement, even as she watched the blonde Leventi's interaction with her niece and sister. It was so similar to the way Thea and Nethis would dote on Dion back when he was first born, that Evras in a way hoped it would be the same for the babe she now carried.
Or she hoped she carried anyway.
Reminded of why she had awoken, along with another twinge on her abdomen, Evras dearly wanted to spill all to Thea and have her sister reassure her, yet in the face of guests, she could not bring herself to do so. So instead, the dark-haired princess nodded to Selene, before speaking. "I wished to visit the Temple of the Gods with my sister, Lady Thea, before our preparation for tonight's feast for your newly arrived mother and sister begins in earnest." Evras murmured to Olympia, who likely had not yet heard Evelli and Nana had arrived, considering the hour of their arrival and how tired the young Queen had been of late due to the tumultuous happenings. "Perhaps your Highness and Lady Selene would like to join me?"

There was an expression on Evras’ face that felt familiar, though she couldn’t quite pinpoint why. That the older woman stopped and gave greeting was already more than she had expected, but the whirlwind arrival of two others gave her a bit of a start, holding Tisiphone closer to her chest as if still expecting assassins to jump out at every turn. After nearly a month of barely eating for fear of poison, and then seasickness, combined with the lack of sleep she’d had even with Selene’s help, she was surprised Lady Thea recognized her at all. It was fair to say she was a rather faint ghost of who she had been when they’d met. Strange it was only months past but it felt like years since she had told this woman she was with child before anyone but Desma.
A small smile tried to make its way to her lips and she gave a nod of respect to the princess’ sister. The Thanasi women were remarkably beautiful, it was easy to see why one had married a prince but she had to look curiously at Lady Thea. How could a woman of such standing and face be yet unwed? A flicker of memory, that the lady had travelled with Vangelis when he had saved her life in the circus made her curious, but the weight of her daughter being taken from her arms derailed any other thought.
Selene had been the ultimate blessing during this time, always willing to take and cradle the baby when she cried, trying to let Pia sleep when she could and giving her the love that she deserved. Olympia wrapped her himation around her a bit tighter, self conscious still of the body she had been left with after birth. Perhaps that was what was making her feel so foreign to herself. Poor Tisiphone, to be cursed with a father who hated her and a mother who tried, and felt so little. At least she had Selene if she had nothing else. No kingdom, no title, no father.
“Always. I suppose I should be glad. Her joy of tormenting me proves she is her father’s daughter.”
There was a bitter anger to her tone that was impossible to hide, and as she watched Selene with the girl she almost wished that it had been her sister to birth a child instead. She wouldn’t wish the harm that had come to her, but if it had been instead Selene to marry and have a baby, she would be free. Home with her parents and sisters and waiting without a care in the world to be matched as they liked. Theo was no doubt married by now, they could have turned to her at last. The thought of her second sister’s marriage though left a bitter taste on her tongue. She had always liked Achilleas, but he was the son of the man who had tried to kill her. Who had taken everything from them.
“I don’t mean to intrude, if you wished to be alone with your sister, it is a feeling I understand.”

Thea's sharp eyes flicked between the her sister and the Taengean queen before her when they caught the approach of none other than Selene of Leventi. Of the Leventi sisters, Thea only knew Olympia better by an encounter or two, but Thea knew of Selene quite a bit. Her visit to Vangelis following the storm had been intriguing to say the least, though Thea only ever heard slight snippets from Evras in passing conversation. Talk of riding engagements and standard entertainment of foreign nobility in the Kotas household. There was do no doubting her beauty, and her interests in Colchis of all places.
What other reason could bring such a golden beauty to their stony shores?
At Olympia's introduction, Thea smiled sweetly, only the faintest of creases forming between the apples of her cheeks and the lower lid of her eyes, due to the early hour. Dipping her head in an acknowledging bow.
Thea uncharacteristically blinked a few times as she watched the interaction between Selene and Olympia before offering a second, quietly-questioning glance to her sister, Evras at her offering for the two Taengean noblewomen to accompany them to the Temples.
This was not according to any of their plans. This was intended to be quite a private moment between the two of them, considering the current conditions, and yet Thea was not at all surprised when Evras offered for them to join. After all, she was a Princess and a hostess to all who visited, and it was a duty she suited well with her tenderness and loving heart.
Thea did not envy her.
"Indeed, we were just about to set forth," Thea started, finding herself more distracted than necessary as she watched the way Lady Selene cradled and doted on her new niece. A sudden wash of thought flooded her mind temporarily as if connecting links in a chain, some connected and some dangling free as if to tempt other thoughts in rapid succession.
In her mind's eye, she imagined several overlapping images at once. Selene holding Olympia's child....Evras holding Dion...her own arm cradling Dion....then cradling Evras' the future child that they were to pray for...then arms holding a child she did not know that bore stoic eyes, hair turning from her own dark black to the soft, golden pale...in Selene's arms.
Once again, several blinks severed her usual stare as she took a quiet, yet deep breath, internally steadying herself.
The hour was early. Her mind must not yet have been awake.
"It will not be a long or difficult journey," Thea urged, a new sensation - curiosity - starting to pick at the seams of her distracted mind. "There is always a reason to pray to the gods. Perhaps it is their call that keeps us awake. This could be serendipitous." It was an odd stringing together of thoughts, goaded by a rather deep and confusing urge to have the other women join them after all.
"Come, the carriage awaits and the sun will rise soon, as well as an overly-curious household," Thea mused, her smile soft and slightly more amicable than usual. It was likely the two Leventi would not notice such a difference in demeanor, but Evras might.
Gesturing towards the entrance a moment, Thea looped her arm through Evras' and led them to the carriage. It was plenty large for the two sets of sisters and their tiny charge. The footman immediately stepped forward to offer assistance.
Once they were settled within the confines of the carriage, Thea's eyes once again found themselves resting on the small bundle of life in Selene's arms.
"Princess Tisiphone," Thea mused, her sweet smile coming more naturally as she looked simply on the girl, "Will this be her first visit to the Temple?"

For a moment, Evras found a flicker of curiosity in her when she picked up on the hint of bitter anger when she spoke of her daughter. What feelings stayed unresolved between the young Queen and her newly born daughter? Surely such history could not be long yet. Evras herself longed for another child, one she dearly hoped she carried now, especially as Dion grew older. She met her sister's questioning glance with her own, but held her words upon it for now. She'd ask Thea if she knew anything about it later, but such conversations could not be held while company was present.
Still, whatever that had transpired for her family was not something she reserved the right to pry in. Evras herself disliked it when people asked too much regarding her own family, be it her husband or her sister's, and gave the same respect to other's. A such, she shook her head instead, and smiled when her elder sister spoke, nodding in accordance to her words. "Do come with us Lady Selene, Queen Olympia. Afterall, you have not yet had the chance to visit the Halls of the Gods here in Midas, have you not? We've just had a chance to ensure our city is in good shape again after a fire we had a few months back." Evras coaxed further.
Tightening her arm around the loop that Thea did around it, they headed to the carriage, settling in the carriage and giving instructions for the driver of the carriage to take it slow in lieu of their young and sleeping charge, before the slow rumble signalled their journey to the Halls of the Gods.
The city of Midas was sleepy yet, with only a few people of the early sort rising and beginning their day. A faint tinge of the sunrise signalled Apollo's carriage heading across the sky, but it would be an hour yet before the sun properly illuminated the whole city, which meant now only an orange tinge covered the houses of Midas as their carriage rumbled past, heading to the upward slope where the Hall of the Gods was situated.
Turning her head when her sister spoke, Evras's gaze fell fondly upon the child carried by the sister to the Queen, and asked in turn, "Did you ever visit the Halls when you were here back then, Lady Selene?"

While Selene had spent almost 2 weeks in Colchis prior, she had not been able to get to know the Princess Evras. There had been discontent with her taking the princess’s quarters, even if it had only been for a short time. But now, the dark haired beauty looked bright and content, even with a hint of worry deep within her dark irises. And that made Selene’s own heart happy. Zanon had been nothing but kind to her, and she was pleased that whatever had been going on between the two seemed resolved.
There was a soft coo from the little princess as she settled her into her arms, pushing aside the ache that seemed to always follow and focus instead on the joy of her first niece. ”You both are passionate people. It’s no surprise that she is too.” She said with a smile, nuzzling her own nose into the baby’s. She didn’t want to bring up the royal couple’s issues in front of their hosts, knowing that Olympia wouldn’t, either.
”It would seem the Gods like the idea of the sisters bonding then-- I was on my way to the temples, myself. If you do not mind the company, I would gladly join you.” She wrapped one arm around her sister, the other holding the baby tightly. ”Some fresh air would do you good, sister.” She was quiet as she said this, not wishing to appear out of place. But she was concerned about her sister, concern that she wouldn’t ever recover from this. And Selene needed her to.
Following closely behind the dark haired set of sisters, Selene offered Pia silent support. Things would get better. They had to. The Gods had tortured the royals enough. Perhaps some pray and an offering would bring relief in the matter.
As Selene settled into the seat next to her sister, she couldn’t help but eye the dark haired woman across from her. It wasn’t in disdain, but curiosity. She vaguely remembered the woman as a part of Vangelis’s party when she had been first introduced to the man. But things had taken such a turn that the memories were a blur. Selene remembered the blood, and the death, but not those she had met prior. She was a beautiful woman, alluring with bright, exotic looking eyes. Everything about her was perfectly designed, and she wondered just how the lady was not married. Any man would be happy to have her.
Perhaps they had that in common-- the desire to wait for the right connection to come around.
Cheeks flushing, she realized that Thea was speaking to her directly. ”I believe so, unless Pia has taken her to the temples without me.” She didn’t know if her sister had, as Selene was doing her best to give her space, but still be available should she need her. ”It will be good for her to go. Get familiar with the Gods early on.” Evras then asked her of her last visit, and her nod was small. ”Most morning, I choose to start my day at the temples. The Gods have shown me favor most of my life, and my gratitude is the least I can do.” She didn’t know how much the rest of the company in the carriage knew of Vangelis’s condition during her visit, so she didn’t mention that most of her time had been spent on her knees in front of Hermes, praying for a speedy recovery.
”They are magnificent, your highness. And I am quite familiar with them.” She smiled softly, taking Pia’s hand in her own, as if to remind her that she was there for her. Support was the only thing she could offer the new mother. ”Was there much damage to them after the fires?”

Selene's quiet remark that the air would be good for her was met with a nod, and Olympia followed behind their hostess and her sister, keeping step with Selene and glancing over on occasion to check the little babe in her arms. There was part of her that wished she felt more, and another that wished she felt less. When she had been born Olympia had been more than ready to embrace and love and protect her daughter, no matter what, but the way her husband had reacted and treated her since she almost wished instead she could give her away and start over, try to convince Stephanos that there had been no child and they could still have a son.
Whatever the cast, her heart was still connected to the little one as much as it seemed she completely drained her energy. In Taengea she was considered a beauty, though not quite as great as her elder sisters, but that beauty felt as if it had faded every time she looked upon the mirrored surfaces, eyes and cheeks growing more hollow from lack of appetite, circles under her eyes darkening from lack of sleep. Climbing into the carriage alongside three other exceptional beauties didn't help anything, and she was certain anyone looking would think her a maid instead of a queen.
The question about Tisiphone's temple visits drew her attention, and she nodded in response to Thea's question. "This is her first visit. We haven't had time to do things properly with her. She hasn't had the life of a princess." Taking Selene's hand, she leaned into her sister's shoulder shamelessly. If anyone could understand the connection between siblings it was the women across from them. "I look forward to visiting the temples."

Soft lips pressed into a smile as the sister's conferred and determined that this would be the young Princess' first visit to the Temples. The Taengean royals appearance had been so sudden, it was not surprising that they had not made the time to visit or take part in any official blessings for the newborn. On this day, each of them would do well to seek out blessings and good tidings on this the start of a new era in Colchis.
As Evras and Selene spoke of the the city's fires and the welfare of the Temples, Thea's eyes were drawn to the sullen face of Queen Olympia, noting the dim light in her eyes and the pallor to her skin. If she had dared to reach forward to take the young woman's hand, it would have felt cold to the touch. Her skin was likely dry, as well. If it had not begun yet, her hair and nails would become brittle and dry.
This was usual with new mothers, in the weeks following the birth of their child. It had been documented throughout the years in severity from mild to significant. For Evras, the effects had been coupled with the stress of the social ridicule for her marriage to the Prince, but were not nearly as pronounced as what Thea witnessed in the woman across from her. Rumors had it that the delivery had its difficulty as well. Perhaps, significant blood loss? The body was well known for recreating lost blood over time, but in the interim, the lack of it could cause chills and fatigue, as well as listlessness.
"Your Highness," Thea spoke softly, so as not to interrupt the conversation between her sister and Lady Selene, but to draw her attention near, "If you will indulge me, may we sit for a tea when we return? There is a mixture of herbs that is known to soothe the trials that follow delivery." In a manner that nearly perfectly mirrored the Taengeans across from them, Thea's hand curled around Evras' as she spoke, glancing to her sister momentarily with a soft smile before returning her gaze to the young royal, "My sister benefited from it greatly in the period of time after giving birth to Prince Dion. It aids in the health of the body, the warmth of the blood, and can offer relief from at least some melancholy."
Thea knew that the tea did not solve all of the issues that had arisen following Dion's birth, but as far as her sister's health, she believed it to aid her body in recovering from the harshest trial nature gave to a woman. It was nothing she had experienced herself, but her sister's wellbeing was a testament to it. And, gods willing, it would be again with this new life that grew inside her.
"The hunt for knowledge regarding such things is a....hobby of mine, one could say. We all seek our own forms of joy, do we not?" Thea gave Evras' hand a slight squeeze and offered her a soft, encouraging expression. Once again her eyes fell across to the Princess Tisiphone as she lay Lady Selene's arms, making noises of discomfort and stretching with each bump they found in the roads.
It was inopportune, and Thea could beg forgiveness of it and blame the early morning hours for the request in general, but as she watched the Lady Selene coddle the small child, Thea offered, "My Lady, if your arms tire, know that I would be honored to carry the young princess for a time." Her eyes glanced to Olympia as well, nodding her head as if asking permissions, "If you wish it."

She couldn't help the soft smile that appeared each time the infant princess made soft, babylike noises in the arms of her aunt. Evras had always been softspoken, quite unlike the tall, stately manners in which Thea and Nethis carried themselves. Instead, Evras was the quiet beauty, the one who attracted many eyes at a court event, yet not many would know the woman behind the pair of curious blue-green eyes. Motherhood had not changed her much in public, but it was impossible to not notice the softness in which Evras now carried herself with, notable especially when Dion was around her, or now when she had a child in her vicnity.
Shaking her head at Selene's question, a part of her sent a prayer of thanks to the Gods yet again for the damage to Colchis over the last few months. Whilst it had been extensive, Evras was simply thankful that the lives of her closests and dearests had not been harmed. "Thankfully, whatever damage that was wrought is fixable. We are in the midst of the recovery right now. I must apologize, for you have yet to see Colchis at our best." Evras's tone was underlined by a lilt of laughter that was not expressed, a tease more then anything. The last time Selene had visited, they had to recover from the storm that had injured Vangelis greatly, and now she visited on the brink of a large fire. Evras could only hope she did not see Colchis as always being attacked by the Gods, for she greatly hoped that the marriage her husband had been vouching for would happen soon.
At the very least, it would take a great amount of pressure off her own son.
As the carriage trundled on, Evras turned to Thea as she addressed the Queen, and then noted as Apollo drew the sun further up in the sky, how the dark circles had further deepened under Olympia's eyes. The memories of her own motherhood when Dion had been an infant was hazy after almost 15 years, but she could remember how weary she had been, even with her husband and half a dozen servants assisting her. If what she's heard the servants whisper to be true, the relationship between Olympia and her husband was fraught, which would only make her new motherhood harder at present.
As such, Evras nodded in eagerness as well, encouraging Olympia to take Thea up on her offer. "And if you need anything at all, my lady, do let me know. It is likely high time Dion learns to be an elder brother, even if it is not to an infant who shares the blood he does." she murmured with a soft smile, a comment she suspected only Thea would understand the meaning of. But Evras offered her help to Olympia with a genuine heart to assist the Queen, who simply looked exhausted. "Motherhood is new and scary, and when you have no one to help you, it doesn't help matters. I can answer any questions you may have in regards to caring for your daughter. She is a beautiful thing, and an angel from what I've seen so far." At that, Evras turned to give the young princess an indulgent look. Most infants would wail and cry if someone strange carried them, or if they had to ride a rumbling carriage, yet Tisiphone seemed so calm.
Like Olympia however, Evras had no mother to assist her during her phase with Dion. Thea and Nethis would do their best, but neither had been mother's before, and her conversation with Yanni back then was still awkward, for it had been barely a year into her marrying into the royal family. Evras knew she would have benefitted from just having some warm, genuine conversations with someone she knew she could spill all her worries to, and the other would understand the way only a mother would.
The carriage would arrive at the temple soon, but the sense of camraderie between the four women seemed calm enough that for once, Evras did not feel much nerves at playing hostess with the Taengean royals who visited them.

While an outsider may have found Olympia’s disconnect with her child to be horrific, her sister knew well enough that it was alright to feel that way in her position. After having the throne ripped from underneath them, forced to feel else find themselves murdered, what they needed was a boy to be able to assure their hold on the crown. It would seem like their only hope to be able to come back strong against Irakles. A princess did not provide that hope early on, and their disappointment was in her, specifically, but in her gender. Once they were able to come to terms with the implications of a princess, they would see her for what she was-- a blessing.
For now, Selene would make sure the baby was well cared for and loved beyond measure until Olympia could find whatever she needed to love her. The Queen’s sister knew that mother loved daughter, but it would take her time to realize it. The first born was a daughter, would still provide political stability once they could arrange a strong marriage. Or perhaps they would be forward thinking like Athenia and allow the line of succession to fall to the princess. Who knew what would happen? For now, Selene did her best to support her sister until she was ready for the task of being a mother. Pressing a kiss to her sister’s head as she rested it on her shoulder, Selene hoped that they wouldn’t think less of her sister for her current state.
Selene allowed Thea to pull her sister into conversation while she talked with Evras, hoping that a chance to build a friendship and to have the support of another would benefit the royal. After all, Selene would have to leave soon, and Pia would be without family in Colchis. She would need someone on her side, someone to turn to for assistance. And who knew when Selene would make it back for her sister? There was so much uncertainty that at least the blonde could leave with the knowledge that her sister would have a friend here. And perhaps, if Selene had anything to say about it, several.
As her hand fiddled with the knuckles on Pia’s hand, her focus stayed with the princess. ”That is good news. It is always amazing to see what people can do in times of struggle. It is easier to see ones character when times are tough. And the resilience and fortitude of the Colchian people has said more than you could imagine. I am humbled by them and having seen it at its worst, I look forward to seeing Colchis at its finest.” As Vangelis had said the night before-- the people were one to pull themselves up and do what had to be done. She wasn’t wholly sure she could say the same about her own people, especially after the coup of the King.
Selene’s eyes turned grateful as Thea seemed to offer a solution to her sister in the way of herbs and tonics. It was hard to watch her sister waste away not be able to offer any sort of remedy for the malaise. She had heard women talk of what they called ‘mother’s sadness’ but didn’t think it to be a real thing until she watched her sister experience it for herself. She said nothing of the overheard conversation, allowing her sister to respond for herself. When the dark haired sister turned to her, telling her that she wouldn’t mind carrying the child, Selene looked to Olympia for any sign of hesitation. When she saw none, the blonde smiled brightly. ”Of course. She has been charming the Kotas family since her arrive. It was only a few days ago when we had the fortunate meeting with your husband, Princess. It seems that the presence of a baby, no matter the lineage, can be a salve for a hurting heart.” Bringing the baby to her lips, she pressed a kiss to her forehead before leaning forward to allow Thea to take hold of the baby.

Olympia was happy to let Selene and the others guide the conversation, resting against her sister's shoulder she felt her eyes flutter slightly, the exhaustion of the night catching up to her. She barely registered that Thea was addressing her, was she even a 'highness' anymore? She had once been a majesty, and now she was barely a lady. A refugee with nothing to her own name but a disappointing daughter and an absent husband. Looking up to meet the brunette across from her, Pia gave a slight smile and nodded at the kindness Thea was showing. It helped little to know that others could see the toll that childbirth had taken on her, but perhaps if she recovered slightly it might help prove that she was not so entirely useless. If she could regain a glow of sorts, she might yet be a beauty worthy of a king, or if Stephanos chose to get rid of her, another marriage that could be arranged in future.
"Thank you, my lady. I should like that very much."
Selene's hand brushing against her own was a comfort, and though she wanted to find more words, she wasn't sure how to express what she needed even as help was offered to her from all angles. A hint of tears welled up in her eyes and she turned to look down at her daughter instead in an attempt to hide them. She'd spent so much time crying, it was incredible she had any tears left in her.
"Indeed. Thank you both for your kindness."
It still didn't feel enough, but as Thea offered to take her daughter from Selene a rush of something she wasn't quite sure of hit her chest. Her hand fell on the tiny foot in the blankets instinctively before she released it with a nod. These women were safe, none of them would harm her, Selene trusted them, Evras was their hostess. There was no danger in these walls. The change was so quick she barely recognized what had happened, and as Thea took hold of Tisiphone, Pia felt herself relax into her sister's shoulder once again. That was how she was supposed to feel all the time, protective, adoring, affectionate, and seeing the little girl settled in Thea's arms she felt a pang of jealousy. Being able to take joy in the baby was something she still rarely felt as much as she had tried.
"She is far better than her father deserves. Than I deserve. I suppose as time goes on we shall see which side of the family she takes after."

"She is far better than her father deserves. Than I deserve. I suppose as time goes on we shall see which side of the family she takes after."
Thea smiled softly and genuinely at the thought of Zanon cooing over an infant again, knowing more than most as to her sister's and brother-in-law's desires for further additions to their families over the past years. Her eyes flitted over to Evras with a quiet and knowing glance for that very reason. Times had been difficult and strained between them over the years, with infidelity and loss of self over the years having only been remedied in the past year or so.
As Lady Selene gently transferred the tiny princess into her arms, Thea's expression instinctively transformed through the natural phases of gentle cooing of her own, softly shushing the child as she shifted against her chest. The soft grunts and gurgles she made pondered whether or not the tiny royal would accept or reject the new arms that held her. It took a moment for the muscle memory to return to her as she finally adjusted and settled the child in her arms, glancing up to Olympia and Selene, noting how the young mother's hand lingered on the child's foot a moment before relaxing against her elder sister's shoulder.
Hearing Olympia's words, Thea's expression fell slightly in concern. Her readings told her of mother's sadness and the depressive state some mothers found themselves in the weeks following the birth of their child. On top of that, the ordeal they had experienced and survived...Thea could not imagine? The woman's emotional or physical state was not to be faulted by any means, but her mind immediately flickered through some remedy options that may not fully heal but would soothe the worst of it all.
Thea tilted her head towards Evras before looking to Olympia with compassion, "Please let us assist you during this time. My nephew, Prince Dion, would be a wonderful companion for her, and Lady Selene's words ring true - it seems she is bound to steal hearts."
