Timaeus had been summoned to a meeting of all the Colchian military officers. It only made sense then, for Silanos to seize the opportunity to escape the walls of the Midas house for a little while, though this time he had exited via the door rather than the window. And his faithful -annoying- shadow was a willing accomplice. At least partially. Sil had sworn not to cause any trouble, and Daxos had agreed, along with the promise of stepping in if his charge stepped a toe out of line, to accompany Sil to one of his favourite haunts.
He was not to over indulge, nor was he to attempt to shake off the soldier who had now been his stalker for what felt like months. It was an experiment of sorts, a tentative step toward some kind of truce, or at least a more amiable relationship between the two.Whatever, Sil wasnt going to waste his time sitting round fucking analysing it. He breathed a sigh of relief as they stepped through the door to the tavern, and his eyes scanned around for any faces that he knew. He was not planning on sitting and making small talk with Daxos, no matter this new attempt at civility between them.
To his intense relief, Silanos spied Threnos, son of one one of Midas’ most wealthy merchant families, who at a push would make for acceptable company. He was dull as a rusty spoon, but at least that meant Sil was more likely to be able to keep to his word. Unless- unless the man drove him to drink…
“Threnos!, sidle over and make room. It has been too long, friend.” The Valaoritis Lord invited himself to join the other with little preamble, raised his hand to summon the server and requested a jug of wine. He cast a glance toward the figure of Daxos who’d taken up a lurking presence across the room, and Sil huffed a sigh, but reminded himself that he was out of the house. It was an improvement.
“Lord Silanos. I had heard you back from your travels, but have missed you until now. Are you to remain in Midas a while now?” Threnos was all too happy to make room for Sil, the man had a reputation for keeping drink and conversation flowing, and there had been an odd atmosphere in the city since the return of now King Vangelis and the arrival of their Taengean guests. The merchant, like so many others, was curious as to why the Taengean King and Queen were making a visit that had not been heralded.
Silanos, kicking his feet up on the chair opposite and taking a slow sip of wine, gave a shrug. “For now at least.” He made no explanation for his seeming absence from the social scene, hardly about to volunteer the humiliating truth of his brother’s decree, nor the reason behind it. Indeed, it was that which occupied Sil’s thoughts on the return of Vangelis rather than any fascination with the Taengean royals. They had been granted an unexpected reprieve when the Crown Prince had set sail for their neighbouring Kingdom, but now Silanos felt as if there were a burning fuse between they and the new King. And it was an unfortunate side effect of his confinement that he had too long to think about it.
Not now though.
“So fill me in Threnos. What have I missed?” he drawled, leaning forward to pour another glass of wine which he motioned for the server to take over to Daxos. He had to keep his jailor sweet after all.

He hadn't really wanted to go along with the man-child to this location. He hadn't really wanted to do much of anything, to be honest, he would have rather stayed at the manor and continue working out. He found out that he could work out right outside the young lord's door, but he was sure that Silanos didn't really like the sound of the heavy soldier grunting all the time, so a field trip it was.
When arriving, Silanos immediately detached himself from Daxos and went off to some other lad. He didn't know exactly who he was, nor did he care. He positioned himself in a chair a few paces away from the young lord. Despite the fact that the young lord needed to be kept on a leash, he had to be protected. It's one thing for Daxos to lose Silanos temporarily. It's another thing for the man to die.
Sighing he immediately went for his 'I'm really fucking bored' look. In truth that's what he was. He rarely got any days off. Though he did have something to look forward too. His brother-in-law was bringing the soldier's daughter to Midas in a couple of days. He had specifically asked the baron for a few hours throughout the week to allow him to see his daughter. Since coming to Midas he felt strained being so close, yet so far from his beautiful daughter. He wondered if any of the Valatoris boys cared for children.
Not the man child surely. He chuckled to himself at his joke. The man child probably couldn't stand children despite the fact that he was one. A spoiled brat. Though he supposed he wasn't too bad as initially thought. After the incident on day one, things calmed down significantly. No real escape attempts, minus the occasional slip to get his flirt or drink on while on their rare trips out of manor, and they seemed to be at a somewhat understanding.
He looked up to see that a server had brought him some wine. He took it, "Thank you" and looked over at Silanos, nodding in acceptance. They could be amiable. He took a small sip. He would not chug or go wild, but he would accept the olive branch when extended. He leaned back in his chair and began to survey the crowd for any potential dangers. Hopefully this will be a short visit.

It had only been a day since Imeeya had returned to from Taengea and she had business that she needed to attend to. Of course, in order to do that she would need to track down Chares and the man had been infuriatingly difficult to locate. Despite her best efforts to track him down, she had not been able to find the man. If she hadn't known better, she might think her steward was trying to avoid her. Imeeya had run into some luck when someone told her that he had been spotted at a tavern.
As Imeeya followed the directions to the establishment she started to wonder if this could possibly be correct. This wasn't the nicest part of town, but on the other hand, it was the only lead that she had been able to find for locating Chares. Just when Imeeya had made the decision that she was going to turn around and head out of the seedy area of town, she spotted the tavern at last. It didn’t look like much, but it was the place that had been indicated.
Imeeya entered, hoping to just take a quick look around. She didn’t have the best feeling about this place. Imeeya looked around trying to spot Chares amongst the people who had found their way to this tavern that could only be called seedy. Imeeya couldn’t spot the man anywhere, and she was beginning to doubt the sincerity of the person who had said that she could find him here. Imeeya was about to turn and leave when she spotted a familiar face, Silanos of Valaoritis. Perhaps her trip here wouldn’t be wasted after all.
Imeeya’s frustration with this useless trip to this obscure tavern only served to fuel the fires of the anger Imeeya felt as she saw the man’s face. This man who had been so reckless in how he had dealt with her cousin Asia. No, this man had to know that Asia had friends who had her back and that his behavior was completely unacceptable.
Imeeya stormed over to the man, completely ignoring the man with whom he was conversing. “Silanos of Valaoritis!” Imeeya yelled angrily as she stomped towards him, eyes glaring daggers in his direction. If they hadn’t been in a room full of other people she would have gladly yelled her accusations at him. Yet, she had no desire to spread news of what he had done to Asia far and wide. Instead, she waited until she had approached closer and instead hissed in a low whisper “So you think it’s just ok to kiss young women and run off with no explanation?” She wouldn’t mention her cousin’s name, it brought too much opportunity for rumors, but unless this man did this regularly he should know what she was talking about. “Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about.”

Sil’s eyes were slightly glazed: a side effect not of the wine he had barely begun to drink, but more at the mind numbing tedium of what Threnos decided counted as newsworthy. Did he actually think Silanos gave a fuck about how difficult it was to import raw silk? He gave a pained sort of sigh and reached out to briefly clasp the man’s shoulder.
“Threnos. Shut up” he said, with a tight smile. “All this talk of work is making me tired, and the Gods know we all need a little lightheartedness. Tell me instead of that Thanasi boy. Is he still prancing around with his hair long like a maiden? Ha he smiled at you yet?”
He had suspected Threnos of having of a crush on the youngest of House Thanasi, and the flush of colour that swept over the man’s face only confirmed it. Ignoring, the merchants discomfort, Sil laughed softly, took a sip of wine. This was much more fun than the drollness of trade talk.
Before he could really warm up to his subject though, the lord was interrupted by his name being called from across the tavern, and Sil turned blue eyes to find the one who spoke it so harshly. Imeeya of Drakos? A flicker of concern, because Silanos was no favourite of the Kotas household he knew, but there were no guards he could see with Imeeya, just her. Though he did seem kind of riled. The younger lord Valaoritis glanced briefly at Daxos, but otherwise made no move, other than to turn a bemused expression upon the blonde who was now hissing at him.
Well. That was interesting. The only girl Sil could remember kissing and leaving was Athanasia, and if Imeeya knew then that was not a pleasing development. Hades’ Balls. But he was damned if he was going to sit here and be interrogated, and so Silanos let a lazy gaze sweep over Imeeya as she stood before him. Time to knock the wind out of her sails a little bit.
“Sorry, do I know you, sweetheart? I have a terrible memory for faces.”
Silanos briefly lifted his eyebrows and leant toward her. “Did we ….” he waved between himself and Lady Imeeya, dropping his voice to little over a whisper “Have we kissed? I’m so sorry. I’d usually say a face like yours would stick with me. And I’m almost certain I wouldn’t have run away”
He wasn’t sure how much time he had, how lenient his soldier shadow was likely to be in letting him speak to Lady Imeeya, so Silanos grinned insolently at her, making the most of it whilst he could. He could deal with the panic of knowing that little indiscretion with the.uh..other Princess..had gotten out later.

Imeeya was completely taken aback that this man did not seem to recognize her. She had gotten used to it in Taengea, having to introduce herself to everyone, but here at home, she expected a bit more respect. As a lord himself, he should be expected to know who she was. Perhaps it was the location, this was not a place where one would expect to see a woman of her station. She would be out of place in an establishment like this, so perhaps it was simply that Silanos may not have thought that it could possibly be Imeeya. Or perhaps the man was simply drunk.
It was bad enough that he didn’t recognize her, but then he assumed that he might have kissed her in the past. That was altogether too much for her. The implication that she might be a person of the character who might find herself kissed by a man was already over the top. Also that a man of his character had been willing to put her cousin’s reputation in danger only fed her anger. Without even thinking, she reached out and smacked the man across the face as hard as she could manage. Her hand made contact with a very satisfying whack.
“How Dare you!” she growled at him. “As if I would kiss such an inconsiderate idiot as you.” Her eyes flashed at him in anger. “Especially after the way you treated my friend.” She glared at him. “And if you can’t be bothered to remember who I am, I’m Lady Imeeya of Drakos and you’d be well-served to remember that.” Imeeya couldn’t believe this man, nor the fact that Asia had once thought him a friend. Perhaps he had pulled the wool over Asia’s eyes, but she was not going to be that easily fooled.

Daxos was bored. Ungodly so. No one in this place had any semblance of entertainment. Even the young Valaoritis was bored. One glance over at the boy told him all that he needed to know. It was more than likely they weren't going to be at this establishment for too much longer. At least, that's what the soldier hoped.
Due to said boredom, he had already finished his cup, refusing a second one. The man-child couldn't be bothered to watch himself, so therefore someone had to stay in a solid-state of mind. Despite this, Daxos was quite nervous for tomorrow. He had a meeting with the Baron about the man-child, and wasn't too keen on it. Silanos spoke of the tyranny of his brother, and despite the fact that Daxos didn't take too much stock in what others said, he had heard enough of it from others for him to start questioning his decisions.
Daxos had mildly looked over at a woman entering the bar. Beautiful... For a Greek, he thought placidly and found himself looking into the bottom of his cup once more. Nothing was going to happen. This was a waste of time.
"Silanos of Valaoritis!"
The soldier's head snapped to the source of the sound. It was that woman who just entered. She had moved her way through the tavern and made a straight bee-line for the young lord passing Daxos on the way. He had heard of the young lord's penchant for loving and leaving women, this surely must be the result of it.
The soldier leaned back in his chair, his eyes watched the incident with interest. He couldn't quite hear what they were saying but watching try her best not to cause a massive scene was funny and the young lord leaned in for some retort or another. Daxos knew that his retorts were quite inventive and savage, one thing that Daxos could genuinely admire about the lad.
The moment the smack hit Daxos stared slack-jawed in amazement. No lowly woman would ever slap a noble like that. Daxos did a quick double-take on this woman and realized he might have seen her before. It didn't take long for the soldier to realize that she must be nobility herself.
In the few seconds that it took for him to realize her status, she resumed her beratement of the young lord. Daxos felt a pressure rise up in his chest. He tried his best to contain it. Though, it was not to be. Daxos erupted in a burst of hearty laughter rocking back in his chair. He leaned back too far and fell instantly cutting the laughter short.
Moments after he fell, staring up at the ceiling, he burst out laughing once again harder than before. He stood up and placed his chair back in at the table and walked over to the two 'lovebirds'. He made his way past a couple of tables, still chuckling to himself and positioned himself off to the side of the noble lady.
With a chuckle and warmth in his eyes he bowed his head to the noble lady, "Excuse me, my lady. I don't mean to interrupt. I am sure with beyond a doubt that the young lord deserved such a thing. Though..." Daxos gestured to the other patrons who were eyeing this debacle in the establishment, "I'm positive that this sort of confrontation would be best found outside. You know how people talk." He bowed his head to her realizing now that he was almost a full head taller than her. To him, she looked like a frail doll he could crush with his bare hands. If she had the gall to try to harm the lord, he knew he could easily take her.
His eyes shifted over to Silanos as he gave him the biggest shit-eating grin. Daxos hadn't laid a hand on the young lord since that first day, though he wanted to, and seeing the man-child get his just desserts made his day. Maybe this day wasn't a complete waste of time. He always wanted to Silanos get chewed out, who cares who does it?
"Though I am in no position to make suggestions my lady," he bowed his head once more and spoke softly, "and I'm sorry for interrupting. I am the young lord's personal ba-" Daxos cut himself off before finishing the word, smiling slyly to himself, "bodyguard. I would ask you to refrain from hurting him further." He winked at her as if to say, please smack him again, the little asshole deserves it. He was just keeping up appearances. If she felt the need to smack him again, he would only lightly try to stop it. "Forgive me for my lack of manners." He bowed for a third time to the young lady and began to make his way back to his table. This was to be a very interesting night.

Sil had perhaps overdone his retort. He realised this in the moment Imeeya’s hand smacked across his face with quite impressive force, jostling him so his one cup of wine sloshed its contents over his knee, and making his ears ring. There was already a vivid flush forming around the perfectly blanched imprint of Imeeya’s palm, and Silanos looked back to her, a little stunned if he were being honest.
He listened to her little rant, and shot a filthy look over towards Daxos whose laugh was unmissable, and then turned an incredulous look upon Imeeya. “Of course I know who you are, Lady Imeeya” he snapped. “ Gods teeth woman”. He lifted a hand to his face as if to ensure everything was still in its right place, undeciced if he were more outraged or impressed at her temerity. Silanos turned to Threnos who had been staring widemouthed at the scene, and he had sharp words for him too. “Stop gaping and pour the Lady Imeeya a drink, Threnos.”
He fell silent as the hulking form of the guard approached and Sil rolled his eyes to heaven and prepared himself for whatever hilarity Daxos thought he could draw from this situation. The Lord glared balefully at the soldier, and waved dismissively when he made to depart again. Prick Sil hadnt missed that wink.
With a huff of a sigh, he turned back to Imeeya, belatedly pushing to his feet and kicking Threnos’ own off a chair which he then pulled out. “Why don’t have a seat and we can talk about our mutual friend” he said, lifting a brow at the noblewoman. “Go make yourself busy somewhere else, Thren. I’ll catch up with you later” The look he shot the merchant did not brook dissent, and so the young man bowed at Imeeya and then scrambled off to find another table.
Sil, with his cheek now a flaming, blotchy mess, looked expectantly at the blonde. “I think if you’re going to get so worked up about something you ought to at least fucking hear me out” he said, shrugging and sitting down again and reaching to refill his own cup.
He was more than a little thrown that Imeeya somehow knew of what had happened with Athanasia. And his face stung. Quite a lot. Taking a gulp of wine -fuck the one cup rule- Sil tried to think through his muddled thoughts of that night. So soon in the aftermath of his momentous misstep with Evras, Silanos had been out of sorts anyway. The Prince Vangelis had been there and had made no secret of his attention upon the Valaoriitis lords and Sil had stolen away to lose himself in the anonymity of those dancing.
Anathasia had other ideas, he remembered. She’d been demanding of his attention and Sil had been well into his cups by then. He’d panicked, unlike him, but the truth non the less. And why he hadn’t anticipated it coming back to haunt him, he couldn't fathom now.
What had the Princess told Imeeya? He needed to know, and Silanos shot a wary glance toward Daxos because he didnt need him going blabbling to Tim. He needed to contain this, and that meant sweetening the noblewoman before him a little. Sil looked at her expectantly. Would she sit or not?

The second Imeeya’s hand had collided with Silanos’s face, she knew she had gone too far. Despite the fact that this tavern was not the most reputable place, she was sure to draw a large amount of notice by slapping this noble (though her brain protested affording him that title) across his face. She was clearly now the center of attention when she heard laughter ringing from across the pub, followed by the clatter of a chair. She didn’t look over to see who it was, she wasn’t going to give the drunkards any more entertainment by focusing her ire on them.
“So you decided to demean my character knowing who I was?” Imeeya asked to Silanos’s explanation of his joke. “I don’t see how that makes anything you said any better,” Imeeya was only warming up for a tirade about how idiotic she found Silanos to be, completely ignoring the wine that his friend was pouring for her. The wind was taken out of her sails by the arrival of Silanos’s personal guard. Despite the man’s imposing stature, he seemed in a much more pleasant mood than Imeeya would have assumed a guard would be after she had just assaulted his charge. He seemed more concerned about how the slap appeared than any physical harm she had done to Silanos. The man certainly knew how to make friends. “I appreciate your concern,” Imeeya responded to the man before he retreated back to his own table.
The man was right though, she was drawing way too much attention to herself as she directed her anger towards Silanos. Instead of continuing the tirade that Silanos’s bodyguard had so rudely interrupted, she found herself taking a seat where he indicated so she could chastise him in a much lower tone of voice that would draw less attention from the other patrons. “You are no friend of hers,” Imeeya hissed at Silanos. She found it very presumptuous for him to be calling Asia a friend after the potential for scandal he had caused her. “And you’d do better to not use such foul language in front of a lady. A man of such breeding than yours should know better. Although that clearly hasn’t stopped you from many other things that are just as improprietous.” Imeeya found both her temper and the volume of her voice rising again, and she paused to take a breath so that her voice wouldn’t carry too much so that the other patrons of the tavern might overhear them.
She glanced around at them quickly, trying to ensure that she had lost their attention, though there were still a few that had their attention trained in her direction. Maybe she should have taken the bodyguard’s advice and taken this outside, but it was too late now. “What on earth do you think you could tell me that could possibly explain your actions?” Imeeya started in again on Silanos. She couldn’t think of a single explanation that could excuse his behavior toward Asia. She’d like to see him try, just so she could tell him how wrong he was.
Imeeya had left the cup of wine that had been poured for her untouched on the table. Like hell, she’d allow herself to be even slightly inebriated around a man of such low character.

Sil did not bother to hide the roll of his eyes. Was this girl for real? Demeaning her character? He was about to point out that she had just clouted him round the face and that, if anything, he was the one who could be outraged now, but was perhaps saved from fanning the flames of her ire by Daxos’ interupption. Maybe he wasn’t so useless, after all.
Either way, the Lady Imeeya sat, Threnos scarpered like he was told to do, Daxos went back to lurking, and Silanos was left, facing her across the table, trying to decide how he might pacify her before she brought another load of trouble down upon his head.
Friend? Maybe that had been a stretch. And she was chiding him for cursing too, and Silanos merely glanced around them and raised his eyebrows. There were no other noble women to be seen. And she was raising her voice again. He smiled a little at her. “I can assure you, Lady Imeeya, that you are the only one here concerned about propriety. But please, forgive me my coarse language.” He could be a good little lordling when he tried. He just didnt care to try very often.
This time though, Silanos had enough motivation to want to smooth his way rather than get her any more riled up. He took a sip of wine. The question was how. How indeed could he explain away that little indiscretion without getting into the other, a thing that no one could know and that he doubted would help his case. He also didn’t know if Imeeya had seen something with her own eyes, or if the Princess Asia had confided in her for whatever reason.
What a fucking tangle this was all turning out to be.
“I meant no slight to your friend” Silanos threw out first, choosing to continue to preserve the anonymity of the Princess, for it did not serve him well either for it to be known. He deferred to the notion too that Athanasia was not his friend, conceding that little victory to the woman opposite. Because every little helped and he really needed for this to all go away.
“I hope she’s not upset?” That was an easy win too, and not a lie. In their admittedly brief acquaintance, Athanasia had been nothing but kind. Amusing. Not as uppity as he might have expected. Not as uppity as the haughty blonde opposite, who Sil now glanced at to see if any of her anger had diffused. Certainly he could feel some of it diffusing across his face, and he moved his jaw from side to side as if checking for damage. Let her think she’d done some if it’d soften her up a little.
He paused a moment before picking up on another thread of her own words. “Look. I can’t explain. I think we both know that there is really no excusing what I did. I just...forgot myself. And then of course I knew I’d overstepped terribly and I panicked. Who wouldn’t? One doesnt just run around kissing Pri...friends and expecting everything to be fine.”
He might have laughed at the irony of it had his own neck not been on the line. What kind of fucking idiot would run around kissing princesses and expecting everything to be fine? Sil swallowed. This was getting to be extremely unfun. Still, he had to do damage control.
"I haven't been able to sleep since" Again, not a lie, but then he hadn't been sleeping before either, so it made no odds to him. "But I didn't know what to say to atone. I feel awful, I really do. Your friend did not deserve such callous treatment but I could not even write to apologise because if anyone knew what I had done..." He let the words trail off, and he didn't even have to fake the grimace that twisted his face.

As the man spoke, Imeeya found her anger subsiding. It seemed like her anger had knocked some sense into him anyway. Finally the man was addressing her in the manner that she deserved, even despite his protestations that she was the only one who cared about such things. The fact that she did care about such things was reason enough not to swear in front of her. Luckily, it seemed like he was finally willing to take her accusations seriously.
Imeeya listened on suspiciously at first, and then with increasing sympathy as Silanos explained his side of the story. It did him credit to ask after Asia and how she was doing, but Imeeya wasn’t going to give him any more information about the Princess’s state of mind. She did not wish to encourage him. He could be as contrite as possible, but that didn’t mean she had any more desire to give Silanos the impression that his attentions towards Asia were wanted or acceptable. Imeeya smiled a bit, satisfied that she had won the argument when Silanos admitted that his actions couldn’t possibly be justified
Though, by the ending, he seemed to be laying it on thick, trying to get her to feel sorry for him. To what purpose? Did he want her to go running to Asia to tell him how sorry he was? There wasn’t a chance. Even if he had learned the error of his ways, there wasn’t any reason to give him the chance to repeat that mistake.
Imeeya took a sip of wine, looking at Silanos consideringly before responding. “If you want to know how our friend is doing, she’s already forgotten the whole thing. She put the whole thing out of her mind after being consoled by her brother.” If Silanos had any knowledge of the trip they had just been on, he was sure to know which of Asia’s brother’s she was referring to. “I think the best thing you can do at this point is to forget it as well. Apologizing would only remind her of what you put her through, and I think it’s best that you leave the past in the past.” Imeeya paused again for effect before her final statement that she hoped would scare Silanos off of talking to Asia again for good. “Besides, I doubt that it would be safe for you to contact her again. Not after her brother threatened to kill you.” There, if this man knew what was good for him, he’d stay away from the princess. Not that her interactions with him so far made her very convinced that he knew what was good for him. Imeeya took another sip of her wine as she watched the news hit him.

He was getting to her, Sil thought, as he watched the almost imperceptible shifts in her expression as his words sank in. Yes,Lady Imeeya. Calm down and get off your high horse. He was quietly satisfied, the tense set of his shoulders relaxing a little. Perhaps this wasn’t as bad as he’d feared. Even when her tone shifted back into that ‘holier than thou’ judgemental set he arranged his expression into something contrite and let her go on.
It was a very convincing expression too, downcast, penitent. At least up until the moment that reference to Athanasia’s brother fell from her lips. It took a flicker to permeate, a slight delay between her words and the lord’s startled reaction, his head snapping up and his eyes suddenly very intent upon her face.
“Brother?” he echoed, clearing his throat which suddenly felt tight. And he barely remembered to nod obediently as she primly advised him to stay away, reaching instead for his wine which he drained far too quickly, trying to settle the rising panic.
Consoled by her brother. It could not have been worse news. Which brother would the Princess turn to for counsel? If it was Silas, then Sil thought he might get away with a bit of a kicking. He had a passing acquaintance with the young Kotas prince, they’d been drinking buddies enough that it might buy him a little grace. Zanon didn’t fill him with joy, because he really didn't need to be bringing himself to the attention of the man. Just in case it triggered a memory that could implicate him or Timaeus. He had no affiliation with Yiannis, so that was an unknown.
But worse than all of them though would be Vangelis. Sil reached over and refilled his cup again. He had promised he wouldn’t have much, but fuck it, needs must. Maybe the princess had not been specific? Maybe his name had not been mentioned?
“....of course you are right” he managed to grind out a moment later, but his focus had fallen away from convincing Imeeya of his regret, mind spinning with the possibility that Athanasia had breathed word of his indiscretion to one of her brothers. He didn't want to ask. He thought he already knew the answer. Lifting the pewter chalice to his mouth, he had just taken a mouthful when Imeeya dealt her final blow. He just managed to turn his head to avoid spitting wine all over her, instead showering the table, and setting off a choking fit that took him a few moments to quiet.
“Me...specifically?” he enquired shakily when he could breathe again, hoping she would think the hoarsness a side effect of the coughing. “As in...she spoke my name to Va..to her brother?” Oh Athanasia, what have you done?
He looked pale under the tan he’d caught in Taengea, his eyes sliding toward Daxos to see if the guard was paying any heed to their words. Sil thought he might be sick. It might be that Vangelis couldn’t kill him. Perhaps Tim would get there first. It was all he could do not to put his head in his hands and despair, and only his awareness of the cool blue eyes of Imeeya resting upon him had him resist.
“Ha. Well. You give sage advice then, Lady Imeeya” he choked out, chasing it down with more wine. What did it matter if he broke that promise too. He was doomed either way.
It was only as he took some confort in the warmsort of weightless feeling the wine was giving him that Sil realised his error. Oh fuck He was going to be struck down by the Gods.
He’d done it when Threnos had been sharing his riveting stories about silk. A couple of pinches of poppy straw in the jug just to spice things up a little. The same jug that he’d ordered the merchant to pour from for Lady Imeeya. The cup of wine that she was drinking now. Someone, somewhere was laughing at him.

Imeeya could have almost laughed as she watched the news of Vangelis’s death threats permeate into Silanos’s brain, though she managed to get away with more of a twitch at the edge of her mouth as she delivered the news. The look of sheer panic that crossed his face as he went pale. She knew of Vangelis’s scary reputation, but she hadn’t expected such a reaction from one of the vassal lords of House Kotas. But perhaps he had more reason than most to believe the new king’s threats towards him. Imeeya knew he wasn’t the kind of man to joke about something like that.
“Yes, she told him about you specifically,” Imeeya confirmed, taking another sip of the wine before continuing on. “As I said, it would be very unwise to pursue this any further.” Not that Imeeya thought that the man needed any more discouragement he was clearly already as white as a sheet. She took another sip of wine and put the cup down. Perhaps she was drinking too quickly as she was already starting to feel a bit light-headed. Had she skipped lunch? That must have been it.
Imeeya smiled broadly as Silanos admitted that she was right. “Of course I do. I give great advice,” Imeeya said just a bit too loudly. “I was really helpful with the baby when we were on the boat.” Imeeya had to explain to Silanos just how good her advice was. Not that helping out with a baby was really advice, but it proved that her opinion was worth listening to. Imeeya was starting to really regret the wine, she could feel her thoughts getting fuzzier.
She glanced around, thinking of finding a way to take her leave, when her eyes fell on Daxos. “Why do you have a bodyguard anyway if you don’t know about Van...the death threats anyway?” Imeeya caught herself in time to prevent herself from saying her cousin’s name. That was important so that Asia didn’t get in trouble. “He doesn’t seem to like you that much. You might want to get a better one.” It did seem like having a bodyguard that didn’t like you rather defeated the purpose. “I’ve never really seen much of the point of having a bodyguard anyway. It seems like it would get in the way.” She hadn’t meant to say that out loud.
Imeeya frowned and looked back at the cup of wine. She hadn’t drunk that much wine, she shouldn’t be drunk. Something was wrong here, but she couldn’t quite put a finger on it.

‘...it would be very unwise to pursue this any further’
Silanos could, without even a shred of doubt, guarantee that he would be not be pursuing it. In fact, if it were up to him, it would never ever be mentioned again, would be scoured from the thoughts of all who knew and buried into the darkest , deepest, pits of Tarturus, which is surely where he was headed if that was not the case.
He could not even be bothered to be irritated by the quirk of her mouth, signalling some amusement at his plight. She didnt fucking know the half of it.
Which just made it seem so horribly unfair that he had unwittingly stumbled into another potential disaster, and the young lord’s glance strayed to the wine cup before Imeeya and then away again. His fingers itched to just snatch it from her.
He could make a scene, he supposed, send it back for not being good enough and insist she did not drink it? Or an accidental spillage? Or maybe he could just offend her enough that she would leave and be none the wiser. He considered all these options and more through the slightly fuzzy veil of his own consumption, lifting his gaze from the cup back to Imeeya as she spoke on.
“What baby?” he asked, distractedly, trying to keep himself grounded enough to deal with the current catastrophe unfolding before his eyes. Even the overwhelming opportunity for amusement was not enough to let Sil disregard the gravity of this.He narrowed his gaze a fraction. Was she talking loudly? He leant forward, elbows on the table to better see how much she had drunk already, glancing up at her in confusion because there was still at least half a glass left.
But if she didn't drink much..or was having some odd reaction.
The idea that he might have inadvertently poisoned Imeeya of Drakos had his heart racing in a way that was not enjoyable, and Sil’s eyes darted around to see if she’d drawn any attention, waving dismissively at her question, until he processed the almost stumble she had made.
So it was Vangelis. Fucking marvellous. He wanted to stew on that injustice, but could not, and instead eyed the soldier by the door.
Really, whether or not Daxos liked him or not was the least of his concerns. And whether or not the man was there to keep him safe or keep him out of trouble….well that was debatable too.
“Wasn’t my idea” he said, watching her face as she frowned and then looked back to her wine. He panicked then, that she was about to reach for it, and without much forethought, reached over and picked it up, knocking it back in one.
“For propriety’s sake” he explained as he set the now empty vessel down upon the table. “Probably not wise for you to be getting inebriated somewhere like this, with someone like me”. He shrugged nonchalantly, entirely in contrast to the tension he could feel settle across his shoulders despite the heady effects of the laced wine.
She could think him rude if she liked, he didn’t care. It was better than the alternative.

Imeeya was sure at this point that something was very wrong. She felt almost as if she was floating, or maybe more like she was underwater. At the very least, it felt like everything else was far away and not moving at quite the right rate. When Sil asked about the baby, she didn’t even process the question until the conversation had moved on. Then it was too late to bring it back up.
She wasn’t sure if it was the fact that something in the wine was off, or if it was really what was going on, but Silanos also seemed to be acting weird. He seemed kind of sweaty. Or maybe that was just the way the candle light was dancing in the dimly lit tavern. She blinked a couple of times trying to clear her vision, but even after that, he seemed to be acting weirdly. Maybe there was something wrong with the wine, he had certainly been drinking enough of it himself.
“How can you have a bodyguard that wasn’t your idea?” Imeeya asked curiously. “I thought the whole point of a bodyguard was to protect yourself. Who would get one for you?” But Imeeya’s thought process continued out loud despite having no desire to share the information. “Well I guess my mother could get a bodyguard for me if she had a desire to, but I don’t see why your mother would want to get you a bodyguard. You seem perfectly capable of looking after yourself.”
Imeeya gaped at Sil as he swallowed down the rest of her glass of wine, almost reaching for it as he did that. “You shouldn’t have done that. There’s something wrong with this wine!” She exclaimed loudly. As much as she had no great liking for Silanos, she didn’t want to end up with him poisoned or something. Oh no! Was that what this was, was she being poisoned? Suddenly Imeeya was very worried. “Do you think the wine could be poisoned? How much do you trust that friend of yours? Does he have anything against you?” In her fear and inebriation, Imeeya completely missed the last things Silanos said about her not getting inebriated with him. Instead, she was looking around frantically. What was one supposed to do when they were poisoned? And why didn’t she seem to be able to connect one thought to another to remember anything on the subject?

Silanos studied Imeeya closely, still trying to figure out if she’d even been affected by the poppy or not. He scowled, and interuppted his study to glance at Daxos again. “Lots of things in my life at the moment aren’t my idea” me muttered darkly. He wondered if this counted. This hadn’t been his idea. It had been a momentary oversight that now he had to fix somehow.
When she started babbling about her mother and his mother, Sil came to the rather dismal conclusion that Imeeya was, in fact, high. And there was a moment when he cast his eyes to the heavens and sent a prayer to whichever of the Gods deigned to listen that this was not going to turn into the catastrophe that it could.
Just give me this one thing.
And when he guped down what was left of her wine and Imeeya protested, Sil could’ve choked on it. That she’d already noticed enough to say something. And so fucking loudly. He reached over to pat her hand in what he hoped was a reassuring manner.
“Shhhh” he said, looking around them, trying to guide his slightly hazy thinking to deal with this new development. Could he let her think it just bad wine? He had no love of the tavern or its keepers, but when the Lady Imeeya decided it was in fact poisoned, he knew he couldn’t. She wouldn’t let it drop. “Look, shut up ok. I’ll explain.”
He had the same sick feeling that he woke up to after one of his nightmares, only this was a lot more real, and Silanos blew out an agitated breath, ran a hand through his hair which fell stubbornly over his face again anyway.
“I don’t want you to get upset, alright? It’s not really anything, it's just…” Fuck He really didn’t want to do this. But as he looked at her he imagined he could see her gearing up for another rant if he didn’t spit it out, so he made himself go on, the rest coming out in a rush.
“There might have been some poppy in that wine. Not a lot! Just, enough that you might be feeling it. Feeling a little..relaxed? Dreamy? I’m sorry. You’re welcome.”
And with that, he sat back and folded his arms across his chest defensively, not quite able to shift the nervous expression from his face.
